Thing is, nobody leaves their hand in the air when they strike for real. The skill is never really the finishing it's in the drills that teach us how to follow into the opponent's centre as they withdraw the strike at speed. Once the pressure in on the opponent's centre the end should be inevitable, relaxed and appropriate.

This is a demo. In a real situation you need to move like lightning for it to work. Move as they move through feeling and intent. Catch them like a frog catches a fly with its tongue. And if you move good you're the quick and not the dead. Hey I think I've just invented a new Chinese martial art! The Lethal Lick style! Peace. Long Tongue Jim.

it's useless to be a good fighter if at the end you're just an idiot or a douchebag....more than fighting skills martial arts teach you how to be an intelligent person that have self control. Of course avoiding extreme situation come from intelligence. Style or system is just a point of view. The most important thing is to be happy to practice and not to bother the others by telling shit.

Regardless of styles, be it MMA, muay thai. kyokushin, they are practised as sports. The only time to test which is effective is when there is a life threatening situation, that's when the true spirit/effectiveness of the art surface. So far, I am fortunate not to have witness such effectiveness. This issue of "this is better than that" is speculative at best. That's why in the old days, you sign a contract to idemnify all parties whom you fight with against responsibility of causing death.

My thoughts and opinion is that martial arts need less technique and more concept less theory and more application Bagua is a concept and so is boxing but some arts use more technique like wing chun are even old school jujitsu it not bad but if you train technique only you may find yourself in a tangled mess but with martial concepts comes the ability to adapt to changes be like water.

as a wing chun practitioner i must tell you that it actually has concept although i dunno about bagua...either way i really like bagua and i am checking to see if there is concept but i think it comes withthe pushing hands

Finding a *real* Muay Boran school is hard even in Thailand. But hey?! What do you expect from somebody that thinks that Kyokushin (1956) is "older" than BJJ (1925) or even Muay Boran (which was heavily influenced by chinese martials arts in the 18th and 19th century), and who can't differ combat sports from martial arts?

+MrLegoCorporation + Although it's been almost two + decades since I had knowledge of Kumar, that his teacher was a Doaist Immortal is a first! His Ba Gua teacher died many years ago. And we know that immortals don't die ;) You might be talking about Kwan Sai Hung, "The Wandering Taoist" One of my friends studied under Kwan. I met Kumar when he was living in the S.F. Bay Area. It was at a Tradiotnal Chinese Medicine / Internal Healing Expo in Oakland, CA when I came across him. A friend of mine had studied with Kumar and introduced me to him. Kumar was attending a seminar, as I was, by a well known Internal Martial Art Stylist that was demonstrating Fa Jing on students. The Teacher was having these people airborne and landing many feet away; eventually by not even touching them. I noticed Kumar was rolling his eyes throughout the lecture-demonstration. I guess Kumar had had enough by this time and jumped out of his chair and told the "Master" that what was demonstrated was BS. He challenged the Teacher to do it on him, but was declined the privilege. He went to lecture the Teacher, and all the audience, how chi energy used to propel people in the air was proven to be a parlor trick. Later that night, my friend and I gave Kumar a ride home. He asked me my opinion of his reaction to that class; if he had came across rude, etc. Yeah, don't believe everything you read or hear. It's best to get the "real deal" from people who've had first hand experience; and you need to take that with a grain of salt as well ;)

+zenncatt Very enlightening...how old was Kumar at this point? I was aware of Liuh Hung Chieh as the one I was speaking of. I've read many instances of his chi transmissions to Kumar when he studied under him; and how Chieh's body was of the utmost difference than most others when he died. It seems to me his experience was similar to the Gnostic writings, "If one does not resurrect within the body while they live, they will surely not resurrect when they die."

+MrLegoCorporation Hello, MLC! Gosh, he must have been in his late thirties-early forties maybe. I have heard heard Kumar speak of his teacher, Liuh Hung Chieh. He always spoke of him with high regard. I don't recall Kumar speaking of Chi transmission, etc. But who knows? Personally, the only person that did that to me, and it was unmistakable, was a certain teacher I studied with in Okaland - San Francisco. During standing meditation, he would stand a few feet behind me, without me knowing, and open up and send Chi to me. My whole being would be like it was filled with light; the Gnosis indeed. Talking about Transmission: it was the same evening at the end of the Expo that a certain Daoist was to speak and send his Chi to all the audience assembled. Kumar was sitting close by me and my friend. The Daoist didn't fail to live up to his promise. The stage where he was on must have been at least 20-30 feet away from the audience. While he was speaking in his native tongue, he had an interpreter, all of a sudden a powerful wave of energy came over one. There were various experiences as to individuals, and the effect it had on them. Some got up and started physically shaking. It was very powerful and very real. Kumar later, during that same ride home, commented on the Daoist and his own experience that he had with it. He said it was a certain method that very few had mastery over. Ah, the memories! All the best.

The technic and the movements implicated are always useful, and say the opposite is absolutely ignorance. In many situations, from fighting, or preventing a fight, or an accident, or save people. The fluidity and alertness, fast of movement, could be aplicated in any situation of Real Life, and that's give you a real martial arts, is something bigger than a simple sport created for improve the mechanicity of the body and the external strenght. Perhaps this isn't the best demostration of application of this style, what i didn't practice yet, and I think that one must strenght and accondition the body too, improve the force of phisycal body is important too for giving all styles or thecnics a practical application. Real life isn't a ring of four corners man. Excuse me my lame english, greetings from Chile.

to the comments below: I think you would see something totally different if the opponent was actually attacking with intent rather than for demo purpose. I have seen BGZ used against MMA and win. To quote "chuck Yeager:" you can put a hamburger in an F15 and he's a fighter pilot but put him in an F4 and he's just another piece of hamburger - meaning skill is the measure.

I truly love Sun ZhiJun's style. Big time. He's magically youthful. I do several of his forms. BUT.....this is sooooo painfully fake and amateur! The 'victim' is flying purposefully. Unbelievable. It's one of those "overtly cooperative" student scenarios. That said, I"m going back to the slab in the backyard to keep training the saber form from SZJ!!!
@Brabdog
@Brabdog 5 жыл бұрын
Well sure, that is an aspect of Chinese martial arts culture and respecting elder martial artists, especially someone of SZJ's stature. I'm learning/refining the SZJ dao form now with one of his disciples. I understand that SZJ actually had a reputation as a very good fighter.
@kabalder
@kabalder 5 жыл бұрын
He's purposefully tying the application to the form practice, for the benefit of his students.. Rather than what many do, which is trying to perform the technique in the form as if it is directly appliccable in practice. He's good.

My reference was only made specifically to the demonstration (instruction) of technique given here. and nothing else. i don't know any thing about you, I can only speak for my self. I hardly doubt, the effectiveness of this here, if you' face some one twice your size or more. and if that person is also trained and not a brainless baboon. i agree with you on all other points you have made. I thank you for taking the time to respond to me, and being respectful. I Bow.

Kim Kelly Hello Kim You certainly seem to know what you're speaking about. I guess i should have said - that - there are limits to every thing at some point - an overwhelming size of the opponent can be that, that the only thing will save you is speed. (Not even sure if i am relating my thoughts correctly :))) of course speed, reaction time, angles (to name a few things) are what will determine the outcome of engagement I have some knowledge of taiji. I certainly would not call my self a pro. But i do understand many detailed intricacies of the art. I've stopped by your youtube channel; sadly you have no material there. :((( I invite you to drop by my place and check it out. You never know - you may find a clip or two you'll like. No advertisings - I don't do it for money - Just to share a little bit of my self with the world Btw my name is Ghena

@diphyllum8180
@diphyllum8180 7 жыл бұрын
twopax17 It is staged, which is unfortunate, it'd be great to see these skills used against an uncooperative and competent opponent in an unscripted encounter, and that isn't what we're getting here, what we're getting are his ways of demonstrating a few of his bodyskills. I've practiced Bagua enough to know that his skills are real. This isn't exactly how it would look if they were used in a real fight, but it's for demonstration purposes. His power, and the flexibility and seamlessness of his structure, are real, even though the fight isn't.
@twopax17
@twopax17 7 жыл бұрын
thanks man. how hard was it to learn bagua?
@diphyllum8180
@diphyllum8180 7 жыл бұрын
twopax17 No harder than anything else. The footwork is weird and integrating the hands with the feet takes a while to really get, but that's true of swing dancing too. Learning any kind of movement is hard at first. Practice an hour a day for a couple years though and you'll have a good grasp of the basics, enough for it to be a useful adjunct to whatever other fighting style you may already know. Traditionally Bagua wasn't taught as a primary style but is more of a "graduate school" martial art... if you already have good structure and body control and such you can probably handle it, just practice a lot. It doesn't take as long as, say, Tai Chi, but they work very well in conjunction.
