Simon Templeman's performance as Kain is easily my fave game voice acting ever. Absolutely perfect casting.

Hearing the late, great Tony Jay as the voice of the Elder God (he was also the voice of Megabyte from Reboot and Frollo from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, among numerous other roles) makes me miss him more and more...😢

Blood Omen 2 got a restore mod project that is out, mostly restore cut features, that also help the game play on modern pcs with modern gamepads support. It's called Conceptual Edition. Other Vampire's Lores it takes a silver stake, and remove the head, to take out a vampire. so Vampires are OP in some lores.

The voice acting and the story of the legacy of Kain is a part of the ps2 and xbox history. To answer your question matt it goes like this LOK: Blood Omen, LOK: Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2 (Due to Kain saving Raziel from the sword causing a 3rd paradox), Defiance (Which overlays into the first Blood Omen).

Ah Defiance, the game that went against it's predecessors and became less about the puzzles and more about the action adventure combat. Good times 8:08 I remember these archer guys, you had to pull them out from inside the walls with TK 12:36 You are correct. Kain is in the time of the Serafan while Raziel is 500 years later, when Mobious's mercenaries roam the lands and vampires are all but extinct

Legacy of Kain... probably one of my favorite game series, despite the gameplay not really holding up that well with age.

So, I don't know if anyone else has addressed this, but vampires in LoK are basically cursed angelic creatures, so the water weakness makes more sense to me, than in other settings.

Such a great story. Hope the rumors or a remake a real,hope they do a good job on them and hope it does well enough to finish the story. That cliffhanger of an ending, needs to be reaolved, we need the vampires to return to their former glory!

Iirc Blood Omen 2 is both canon and in the fourth timeline after Kain and Raziel's defiance (hah) in Soul Reaver 2. Which is why a character who died is still alive in it (we don't know why) but it also let Raziel live without fusing with the Reaver, while also still being fused with the Reaver in a different timeline. I like to imagine every paradox would have merged at the end for one and created a weird amalgamation of all timelines.

I would love a full blown remake of the series, starting at Blood Omen. And you can write it off as the new timeline! Good memories of playing this with my brother when it first came out: he took the Kain sections and I took Raziel.

The unfortunate thing about Legacy Of Kain: Defiance’s combat is Kain and Raziel only have something like 3 or 4 combos and that’s it.

The aliens in Signs were so stupid, they're sophisticated enough to travel at what I assume is faster than lightspeed but when coming to a planet filled with the two things they have a crippling weakness to, wood and water, they didn't think to put on protective suits? Why did they even come to this planet then!? Swing away Matt, swing away!

What was defied the most during Defiance for me back in the day was the fabric of the world itself - it often involved shenanigans like falling through the floor, phasing through doors, or turning something invisible. The fact that I kept using the first person mode to take screenshots probably didn't help

So I discovered Soul Reaver 2 in my brother's footlocker when I was like 10 (he's several years older than me and just came home with shit) and I fell in love with the voices, the dialog, and the violence. I've beaten the whole series a few dozen times in that period, altho I don't play it anymore (I don't have the time and the gameplay doesn't hold up more than a once-thru for the curious). I DO watch a supercut of all the dialog and cutscenes, like, once a year tho. Legacy of Kain is to this day my favorite-written and -acted video game, still, and it gets bonus points for actually having a time travel story that was planned out and kept to, so it makes goddamn sense. You DO have to do the legwork of comprehending it the first time thru tho. X DDD Defiance is my favorite primarily because it's the MOST combat and LEAST block puzzles, even though it's still mostly block puzzles and pretty basic combat. I love how everybody finally runs into each other (Kain and the Elder God *meet* in this game, and they've both been around since Sr1 at least), and the finale really is spectacular. I'm pretty biased, tho; I love this shit so much I have huge portions of the script completely committed to memory and you can usually tell I'm in a good mood because I'll be spouting the 'CONSCIENCE?!??!' monologue from SR1. If you know, you know. Simon Templeman, Michael Bell, Tony Jay and René Auberjonois voiced an incredible story to listen to, and even when I don't have time to replay the game, the 6.5-hour video of the whole story is never far from my reach. TL;DR The series is good for one solid playthru at least; you can watch BO1 and skip BO2, but at least once do SR1, 2, and Defiance, just to enjoy the characters bouncing off each other in dialogue. And I don't mean for LP funsies, I just mean for your own benefit. LP funsies, tho, I would be happy to watch. You'll want a partner for sure tho.

To this day, the franchise soundtrack still lives rent-free in my head (I was literally whistling Raziel's theme to myself in the morning). The production value in the audio for LoK was unparalleled for its time!

Embracer Group (the company that owns Crystal D) said something about bringing Legacy of Kain back, like a year ago I think? But I don't know, Crystal Dynamics is busy working on the New Tomb Raider and Perfect Dark. Legacy of Kain is such an unique game though, I wonder how you would translate it to the modern game market.

Water is a representation of purity, hence the damage dealt to vampires, but if you want stupid vampire lore, throw rice on the ground and their OCD kicks into overdrive and they are COMPELLED to count each grain repeatedly. Meaning you can literally heckle them as they count to break their concentration.

I played a good chunk of Defiance way back when. I don't really remember too much of it, honestly (It has been a while). I had a lot of fun though. I enjoyed everything I played. It was one of those "smooth" gaming experiences where it all just seemed to flow from one thing to the next and it all felt good and enjoyable. It's just what I experienced when I borrowed Crash Bandicoot Twisted from a friend and played through that.

It's funny that vampires are apex predators weak to so many mundane things... and the weak to water thing just makes it so you can defeat them with a water gun.

More playing through Defiance would be great, a retrospective of the original Blood Omen would be really cool too, and I don’t know if you do this kind of thing, but maybe a video on how you’d want to see the franchise return? Maybe some RPG elements from Blood Omen/ Witcher 3, better Devil May Cry / Defiance style combos, more weapon fatalities, Blood Omen bat/wolf/mist/human changes for traversal and fast travel, spell system like Dragon Age, etc. I’d be curious to see what you’d want from a reboot, a remake or a sequel!👍

I think the the first BO and Soul Reaver are the best in the series. They both ooze atmosphere that was a bit diluted in the later games. This franchise deserves a comeback.

Ah! FINALLY a game worthy of the season! Highly underrated in and DIRE NEED of a remake and continuation! One of the most criminally underrated series ever! Vey victus!

Soul Reaver PC got pulled off all the main stores a few years ago, to fix the fact that they were using a fan-made utility to run it on modern systems. And it never came back. The hope is that NightDive is working on a remaster, shadowman style, but that's just a pipe dream at this point (considering the cluster&*^k Embracer is going through) GOG did manage to get Blood Omen to be sellable again, which is basically the high point for the franchise for the past decade or so.

Kinda cool i found a copy for this at my retro store for 9 dollars lol.The only problem i have with this game is the camera when floating onto platforms.And this is a good crossover game.But the final boss is literally hell.

Legacy of Kain honestly makes a better interactive novel. I love the story, the voice acting and the big over-arching themes but I gotta admit that game play is where these games usually struggle with. Yah, I got bass ackwards lost in so many parts of this game. And the other games. Maybe the new owners will manage to find the right balance, pun unintended.

Sorry Matt but i don't think KTVL (Kain The Vampire Lord) timeline is the best exemple to give us. I followed his (beautiful) work for years on DeviantArt and i can tell how much he hate the Soul Reaver saga and both Raziel and the Elder Kain. His timeline is totally biased because of said hatred. A more accurate timeline would be : Blood Omen ->Soul Reaver->Soul Reaver 2 with Blood Omen 2 existing only because Raziel spared Kain during Soul Reaver's 2 ending, triggering another time paradox. Blood Omen 2 IS the "twisted timeline" not Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2. God damn the amount of extensive experience I had with Legacy of Kain series ate up so much of my time years ago. I'm not surprised to hear Matt played Blood Omen 2 the least because that game is fucking atrociously awful. I might not have liked Soul Reaver 1 all that much either but Blood Omen 2 is the weakest part of this series. And god damn the special moves you could pull off in Defiance were pretty cool but the game does such a piss poor job of visually telling you how to do them. I genuinely thought at first that you were supposed to violently flick the analog stick back and forth while having it held down in a certain direction instead of just holding it in place.
