The IJ-12 is a Soviet era O/U (Over/Under), hammerless, double trigger, 12 gauge shotgun. They’re very reasonably priced on the used market and based on the “arrow in shield” mark on mine, it was made in the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant. I bought mine from Intersurplus in Canada for under $300. These shotguns were superseded by newer models like the Baikal Model IZH-27.

I just bought my second Baikal Ij-12. Light and unbeatable on price. And reliable shotgun.

A long lasting and utterly reliable shotgun. I'm still kicking myself for selling mine.

The ejectors may have been turned off. It's a simple matter to reactivate them again. I've owned a Baikal for over thirty years and it was second hand when I bought it. It's never let me down and in spite of a good deal of use the chrome lined barrels are spotless and the action is as tight as it ever was. A great gun.

The perfect sling for these guns with the narrow loops are the polish pps sling. Intersurplus has them. Great for husqvarna rifles too.

I have a Brno SxS of a similar vintage that also has narrow sling swivels. It came with a canvas strap about one inch wide that had a thin leather belt section at each end. I don't know much about older shotguns but I wonder if that was the common style in Eastern Europe at the time.

@@Huntinggearguy very similar except that on my sling the leather straps are sewn inline onto the canvas, not mounted as separate loops. It has the same style of buckle though.

Hi! I was looking at an ij-27e, and I have a question Do you know what the chokes on it are ? Cause as far as I know those ones had fixed chokes. And do you think it'll be a good sporting gun ? Cause I couldn't find the 27s I only found the 27e Thank you

I really like my MP27M Baikal. It is a 12ga O/U with stock removable chokes. (If anyone knows what kind of chokes these take, I'd appreciate it. They are unmarked except for amount of constriction) 28.5" vent rib barrels. Double triggers. Ventilated recoil pad also came stock. I really like it. It hits where I aim. I honestly got over 60 grouse with it this fall in just 5 or 6 evenings while hunting moose. Best bang-for-the-buck I have had in a gun for a good long time.

Yours might, but this one does not have the mechanism necessary for ejection
@ragnarli1
@ragnarli1 6 ай бұрын
If i looked again your video, i still believe there is all needed mechanism. You did not show action from top view. If you take it apart, on stock side of the action, there is one "screw" on each side (where halfmoons come out). If you turn the screws quarter way, left or right, it will engage ejectors. @@Huntinggearguy

IZh-18E was the first of the Baikal shotgun line with auto-ejector. The IZh-12 like this doesn't have them - they actually came with a tool to pull the spent cartridge out, but never seen these except in manuals. As for using steel shot, I'd been advised against using anything except lead shot - being told that Russian shot ammo of the day, when these were made, was lead and so the gun would have been only tested with their ammo (Baikal made its own ammo as well at one time). I have heard and read about people putting steel through these although small stuff like #7 or #8. I managed to get slugs through my 1.0 choke (=full choke) 12-gauge before realising the thing was full choke and stopped. The 12-single barrel gauges come in 0,5 (half) and 1,0 (full) chokes, the 12-gauge the only full choked Baikal.
