Tanigaki finds a half-eaten deer and gets an idea for a trap, setting a fire nearby and hiding. Ogata sends his second to scout the area, thinking Tanigaki plans an ambush, only to be surprised when a bear emerges. He shoots the animal, confident he can deal with Tanigaki, not realizing the fleeing soldier has a rifle.

its not actually his ego its the fact that he didn't calculate the possiblity of tangaki having a gun if he did he wouldn't even think of doing something that sketchy

@@birdduck3314It is basically an ego for getting ahead of himself. Not just because he overlook possibilities of another gun hidden in Chise (Ainu house) but also being overconfident how he cannot be shot.

A sniper needs to be cold and observant to all possibilities Unfortunately they’re not perfect or else he would have also anticipated that someone would have given tanigaki a gun That there is just ogata being cocky which is in his nature after all or at least my take of him throughout the series, like a smooth cocky not a arrogant cocky if that makes sense?

I honestly thought Ogata was just going to sit there and let Nikaidou get eaten; I'm sure he would have if he was taking Tanigaki more seriously.

Ogata had the false assumption that Tanigaki was dissarmed. He thought there was no danger in revealing his position.

The amount of times Ogata should've died but survived, he has 9 lives...just like a cat, which is aligned with his character identity. Somebody should go back and count his near death experiences to see if he will actually die soon lol

God- nikaido sounds so… normal. Its crazy the change his VA does during his down spiral. Also I wish his english VA leaned more into his crazy side for Nikaido in s2 onward

Looking back at this scene from the most recent episode is really interesting. The episode where they cross the Russian boarder and Oogata has a sniper stand off with Vasili. In this scene Oagata reveals himself by saving nikaidou from the Bear but in his fight with Vasili he mentions that a sniper has to be willing to hear the screams of his comrades all night if it meant they wouldn’t reveal themselves to save them.

He's just taunting. There is a scene later in this arc when he rides horse running away from someone, doing the same gesture but on a horse back. Not sure anime would cover this far in this season

@@coolcat3659 still, he started to get the feeling that he could be in danger, and understood that tanigaki had a plan and was waiting for him to do exactly this, and nikaidou already told him that he doesn't care about the gold anymore etc. but ogata still chose to shoot and reveal himself..

Honestly ogata is a giant reference to the white death, otherwise known as Simo Häyhä. He was the Original professional sniper for winter warfare and the snow in his mouth was his signature tactic.

Ogata was trailing Tanigaki (the shooter) for a long while before this, and he was correct in assuming that he did not have a gun when he began watching him. Tanigaki only had a gun because he acquired one from an old hunting buddy who left his rifle at a nearby village. As a side note, the gun also only had a single bullet, so Tanigaki causing this bear attack was basically the only way he could be sure he could incapacitate both pursuers.

エゾヒグマは雪の上だと歩く音はほとんど聞こえません。風向きで獣臭がすることもありますが、明治のヒグマだと環境が違った為あまりしなかったとも言えなくもないです。私が山中で距離10mで鉢合わせした時も目が合うまで全く気付きませんでしたし、鉢合わせしてから獣臭がしたくらいで、気配すらなく、グォオと言う息遣いが聞こえてやっと気付いたくらいです。

Like, i want to enjoy this anime, it has a good story, it's has nice 2D animations, but then there are moments like this, where they feel CG would be best, and just. Well look at it. LOOK AT IT
