Not just anyone can make baked banana pudding which is why most ppl would prefer no bake. I learned from my grandmother and I like mine but I usually eat it cold as I HATE it hot (not to mention it’s so thick and rich that I begin to fall asleep) No bake is usually great but when made right and served cold baked is better.

Of the two receipes of these exact versions shown, I lean baked. Both are worth trying. I myself make the non baked(different version here), which I like best, but my late grandma, always baked her's(also different). 😊

I grew up with the no baked. My family is from Mississippi originally. I’ve only recently heard about the baked version but never seen it. It looks like instead of pudding it’s custard? I prefer the no bake because it gets better as it refrigerated. Also I don’t like meringue, I prefer whipped cream.
@AllAboutFoodFirst5 жыл бұрын
joblank74 yes a lot of people don’t like the meringue on top I guess you can add whipped cream on top of the baked after it cools down Thank for your comment 👍🏽
@johntingle4555 жыл бұрын
My family was from Mississippi as well.....and my mother always made her pudding from scratch. And she took the time to make meringue. The baking process was just used to brown the meringue...as the eggs were cooked on the stove top in the pudding making process... I never make meringue as it is a time consuming activity. And I use the Jello Cook & Serve pudding today...it still releases the banana flavor into the pudding with it's heat Occasionally I even make it with the Jello Instant Pudding....it's pretty good also and it is a lot quicker.

John Tingle thanks for the info
@joblank745 жыл бұрын
John Tingle my mom taught me to make it from scratch too. But over the years we started using no heat instant pudding because it was a time saver. Also it free up previous stove space on holidays when all the cook top was needed! Lol!

I had never heard of baked banana pudding until recently and my grandmother was from Alabama! If I tried it, I think I'd still be a bigger fan of the no bake. My family does a simple version of it but it's delicious. The only dessert I like meringue in is lemon meringue pie.

We have baked and no baked in Chicago. When I was 10 years old my friend said her Mom puts the banana pudding in the oven and My Mom never put her's in the oven but maybe my Grandma did, she's from Louisiana.
@christian_person50585 жыл бұрын
I follow my mom’s recipe it’s revised because back in the day she cooked the pudding and and let it cool in fridge, then layered and baked. She let it cool off in fridge and the cookies would be soft and banana flavor would standout more. I like the uncooked version
@AllAboutFoodFirst5 жыл бұрын
The custard soften the cookies I’ve never had banana pudding with hard cookies a lot of people have there own different versions one guy said he uses corn starch instead of flour another said they use The pudding mix that you cook over the stove instead of using the instant and I think I might try that but how ever I’m they all taste good 😊

Baked
@johntingle4555 жыл бұрын
Baked is so much more flavorful. The heat makes the bananas give their flavor to the pudding and wafers much more than using instant pudding. Even using the Jello Cook & Serve pudding as opposed to the Instant pudding the pudding is creamier and smoother. I lair my bowl to the top first with sliced banana and wafers,, then pour the hot runny pudding completely over the top. The heat releases the banana flavoring. And the pudding permeates throughout the bowl so that no part of it is not completely saturated with the pudding. Don't get me wrong....if anyone offered me a large bowl of banana pudding made with instant pudding I wouldn't turn it down. I love banana pudding.
