Yes they are healthy .. I eat them in replace of white rice and white potato ... it has just as much carbs as them but don't spike my sugar ... and they have MORE potassuim too ... 150g of plaintain baked is 900mg of potassuim .. The same amount of rice has 70mg of potassuim and potato has 300mg.

Lennis, it did work, thank you! I followed your recipe, but with a riper-mushy plantain. It even had a spot of white mold on the (organic, of course), peel. The plantain inside was so sweet I scraped the peel and dug out the flesh from the ends that I cut off. Since it's organic, I plan to steam the peel, cut it up to put in a soup, meatloaf, etc.

I prepared this a little differently. And it was delicious. I cut the plantain only in half, lengthwise, instead of in thin strips. I laid the plantain flat side up, on an aluminum foil lined baking sheet. I put a couple small pats of butter on top of the plantain to keep it from drying out and allow it to brown nicely. I sprinkled finely minced fresh garlic on top. Baked 15 minutes then turned it over and baked for another 10 minutes. Then I spread some grated pepper jack cheese on top and baked 5 minutes longer so the cheese melted and crisped. It was delicious! It did not stick to the aluminum foil because the butter dripped underneath.

@LennisPerezTV
@LennisPerezTV 6 жыл бұрын
Judy Martinez I've never tried it, my guess is if you freeze them raw, then bake them, the texture may be a bit mushy. I have no problem with that because I love plantains 😁 let me know if you try it. What I would do is peel them, slice them, and put them in a freezer bag. Now I'm curious myself!

Baking plantains not for me... its comes out very dehydrated... and lost its soft juicy texture compared to frying it ... I did 15mins at 400 but it was still kind of raw ... so I did 25mins per side ... But ppl the plaintains will stick on the pan so you need something other than oil to prevent this
@LennisPerezTV
@LennisPerezTV 4 жыл бұрын
That is so interesting, it depends on the thickness as well. If they are too thin then yes they end up dehydrated. Hopefully you'll give it another chance. I can't fry them because of health reasons

Will they stick (too much) if you only have foil at home?
@LennisPerezTV
@LennisPerezTV 7 жыл бұрын
Nick McClung I've tried it with aluminum foil and since they stick you can use a very light coat of oil to help, it shouldn't absorb that much into the plantain

How come I never see any seasoning applied to plantains? wouldn't a little salt and pepper add to its naturally mild flavour?
@LennisPerezTV
@LennisPerezTV 6 жыл бұрын
Dear Roz, this is such a personal preference. For green plantain recipes, usually they are prepared with a little bit of salt as they don't have much flavor and this will definitely enhanced the experience of eating the green plantain. For ripe plantains, usually the flavor is strong enough that you don't need to add anything to it, but again it is up to you. I personally love sweet plantains as they are, without seasoning because it brings out the sweetness in them. Thank you so much for watching and enjoy!

Muchas gracias, Lennis! I'm Italian, so platains are new to me. I live in London, so there are lots of Asian, Caribbean and African shops, so last night I bought plantains for the first time. It was literally black all over, so I just shallow fried them in a tablespoon of rapeseed oil and had them in my healthy burrito with lentils flavored with onions, garlic, bay leave, tomato puree and choriceros pepper paste along with some lettuce and pomegranate seeds. The plantain inside the burrito was just delicious. I will make sure to try your method of baking them for the next plantain :)

I tried this today, and the plantains stucked to the paper, and were almost burnt, when I went to flip it after 10 minutes. Did this happen to anyone else, by chance?
@LennisPerezTV
@LennisPerezTV 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Abeline, this has happened to me before. The issue is with the type of paper you use. Parchment paper is actually what you should use. Wax paper will make them stick and also could catch fire in the oven as the paper is not rated for high temperatures. I hope you try the recipe again with Parchment paper :) . Let me know if you have any other questions!
