Baking With My Boys || Mayim Bialik

5 жыл бұрынHey, it's Mayim, and today I'm baking some delicious (vegan!) cookies with my boys! You can click the link below for a coupon for Manischewitz products, and I've also included the recipe I used.

Potato Starch Butter Sugar Cookies
1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon salted butter, room temperature
5 1/4 tablespoons powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup + 1 1/4 tablespoons potato starch
3/4 cup + 2 1/2 teaspoons cake flour (all purpose and cornstarch)
Powdered sugar for dusting cookies
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, beat butter, powdered sugar until creamy, light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract and stir well. Fold in the potato starch, cake flour and mix well until a soft dough is formed.
Divide the dough into 2 rounds. Use your palms to shape them into small balls. To make the pattern on the cookies, use a fork and press gently onto the top of the round cookies. Dip the fork in water after each press to prevent the cookie dough from sticking to the fork.
Place baking sheet in the bottom part of the oven. Bake for about 10 minutes or until the cookies turn very slight brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Dust some powdered sugar over cookies before serving.

You may not think your kids are paying attention to what you are cooking, they focus more on the eating :) I did not think my boys did either until one day I asked one of them who was at college what he was eating because I was positive it was junk food and he said (mom moment, the tears are coming) "I eat good mom, I make all the things you made for us growing up" 🙂 How great is that?

I love how the boys aren’t very visible. I’m insanely private about my kids, and don’t like them visible on any social media. She did a very good job! Btw, her older boy’s sense of humour is exactly like my 11 year old’s.

I am from Hungary. When we went to the USA with my family, some people asked: Where are you from? Hungary... And then we knew it’s time for a hung-a-ry joke...For them it may be funny, but for us it is not, because we heard it a million times. By the way the hungarian name of Hungary (Magyarország) has nothing to do with hungry,so it is only ,,funny” in English...

I love this! I started baking or cooking with my two kids more often. Part of the reason is because their math curriculum requires then to bake, so that's fun! Sometimes, well, most times our kitchen sessions are comical, but memorable, too!

@@MayimBialikI feel your pain at 1 point in my home we had a free roaming rabbit, 2 guinea pigs, and 5 cats and only 2 humans to break up all the chaos though usually it was only 1 human(myself) since the other worked a full time job and side jobs on the weekends.

Looks like a lot of fun! My dad used to make the best biscuits. He would also make what he called and I think of to this day as "crazy" biscuits. These are what is left after using a glass or a cup to cut the dough into biscuits. Just through 'em in the oven and bake 'em as they are! What fun memories I have of this.

I've grown up with Mayim, I was Blossum for Halloween, twice and love BBT. Now as a parent I can say she's a role model im happy to watch with my girls, and for myself I always thought I looked to Jewy so thank God for Mayim. She's been such a steady staple my whole life! The boys are beautiful.

The reason for not eating raw dough is not only the eggs, its also the flour! flour has been observed to also house salmonella. Tho i've eaten so much raw cookie dough in my life and i'm still here. So i think its not much to worry about.

Living fr away from my parents, I am so glad I have joyful memories of baking with my mum as a kid(while my dad was trying to eat as much dought as he could before it disapeared in the oven). Happy to see you building great memories with your children, those are very precious

Thank you for this! My mom taught me to cook, and made me cook, because she knew she would not always be around. She died when I was 18 and she was 49. Still using some of her recipes, and all of her techniques 50 years later... (again, thank you!).

This reminded me when I baked with my mom and when I had kids I also had them help me baking cookies and cakes. Now my kids are teenagers and they are not afraid to get in the kitchen to cook and bake! You have two amazing kids. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your family recipes. I made your pumpkin chocolate chip cookies with a few adjustments ( eggs, butter ) but they are now a family favorite. My daughter is 23 and living at home , I love it. And when I make pumpkin cookies her friends come around and her work friends ask for them often. Thank you ❤️
