I am the patreon requester of the song. The thing with Bal-sagoth fans is that some like their first brutal albums more, some dislike them but like their softer next albums and some love all the discography. So for song choice it’s a little tricky depending on the listener. Overall in their disco you certainly can find what you like.

@Who Wants Flowers When You're Dead? Nobody. This song is present in all their lives post AA so i think it means a lot for them. Even KULL play it live. It's really a matter of taste.

Bal Sagoth is a band i will NEVER forget. I discovered them when i was 13, a while after i had access to internet for the 1st time. Found them out through some forum because i was hunting for stuff to listen to. I remember thinking this was too dark for me, so i deleted everything i downloaded. A few years later it sprang up in my mind again and i had a huge relapse... im 32 now and i love the band still.

I love them. All of them. If you asked me to assemble my personal top 10 albums of all time I'm going to put all six Bal-Sagoth albums there, and the recent Kull album. If Kull make three more albums, my top 10 will be entirely filled by their stuff.

I'm pretty sure most people discovered Bal-Sagoth when they released Battle Magic in 1998 bc it sold so well in Sweden (where I live) it made the charts (and got a little bit of a discount in the retail price). The only other releases that comes close to this kind of music is Cradle of Filth's - Midian (2000) and Turisas - Battle Metal (2004) albums, so Bal-Sagoth were early with what they did & did it very well (very excellent), in that effect no-one has outdone them ever since. Battle Magic & The Power Cosmic are the best albums for me and listening to them alot in the end of the 90's & 1st half of the 00's while playing Halo: CE & Halo 2 kind of made me synergize the two so whenever I hear Bal-Sagoth I see the visuals from the Halo games unfolding before my eyes. Might have fitted better if Halo was more of a cosmic horror game than a straight alien terrorists FPS game tho. Although I must say I feel like the "Bal-Sagoth's" of the 10'-20's is two bands called Eternal Champion & the other Megaton Sword. In Norway Covenant released their 'Nexus Polaris' album in 1997 and that release is somewhat close to Bal-Sagoth's 3rd, 4th & 5th albums in a sense.

For power metal folks they're too harsh and for black metal folks they're too cheesy. It's a very weird spot.

since this band was doing it's thing long before Wintersun....so i'd say i hear a lot of Bal-Sagoth in Wintersuns music. this band is indeed insane and over the top.....it's the epitome of Fantasy Symphonic euro Black metal... you guys should definitely check out Callisto Rising....it's probably their less chaotic song and catchy as fuck.

I was VERY surprised to see someone finally reacting to Bal Sagoth. Their selling point are the compositions, lyrics (Yes, read them.) and their overall "cheesiness". Each album has that score-like feel, which compliment the lyrics and the stories developed around them very well. Bal Sagoth is not anymore/are on hiatus (?), but 3/4 of the members continue as Kull with a similar but more raw approach. Opinions to Bal Sagoth mostly seem to be splitted to the extreme because they adress a very specific target audience. This band has inspired me throughout the years, and their music somehow never gets boring, especially when taking time to listen to their stuff.

I'll admit I was shouting at my TV when you were dismissive of the mighty Bal Sagoth. Their musicianship is clearly a huge influence on Wintersun. Personally I think these guys are better. Their albums are made to be savoured like a Pink Floyd album. No instant gratification here.

Bal Sagoth is the pinnacle of metal. They are like the gods performing live for you. Whispering, screaming at each other, casting spells on each other with their galactic powers. I don't know a band that is close to the level of their original creativity and playing talent.

I discovered this band in my teens. I loved its cheesy-ness and how well it depicts 80s cartoons like He-Man. I know some people are mega deep about this band but I just think they're hilarious but in a good way. Still I totally see why it's one of Jari's favourite bands. The guitar parts and the goblin-like screams blatantly inspired him.

I used to describe them as black metal Rhapsody, which was so long ago Rhapsody hadn't even changed its name. they're awesome but definitely a very weird band which is very acquired taste. wouldn't choose this one song to do a standalone, other people mentioned Callisto Rising which is indeed better in many aspects, but so it goes. pity it ended

Just want to add Monsorrow/Finntroll's Henri Sorvali as yet another prominent metal musician influenced by these dudes from Bal-Sagoth. They´re genius, and they've lots of better songs to introduce. Anyway, its not easy to choose: Their most popular record is The Power Cosmic, but their most influencial is Battle Magic, while their compositive peak is considered to be Starfre Burning Burning Upon The Ice Veiled Throne... (one of Metalrules's top 50 extreme metal albums).

Which one leads in composition is often disagreed upon. Chthonic Chronicles is the most advanced and diverse and had the most time + attention to detail put into it, but not everyone likes the end result enough to place it above Starfire. It can be a bit chaotic and dissonant by comparison. The components of Starfire are often on their simpler side but the clever arrangements and songwriting make it shine. It was effective enough in that vein to balance everything out. They're all different and all worth hearing. (agree big time that Moonsorrow slays when they're doing the Sagoth symphonic metal thing)

I do really like this band and this song. I personally, would have suggested the song A Tale From the Deep Woods. It seems to be a little bit more structured, plus it has a really cool orchestral backing to it. If you guys ever decide to react to another song, that should be the one lol

Bal-Sagoth are one of my faves. I discovered them way before Wintersun. Jari mentioned them in one of his early interviews to promote the first Wintersun album. Bal-Sagoth are not for everyone. Probably the most niche metal band but you can see their influence on many bands and albums including Cradle of Filth's Median. Wintersun is totally a copy of Bal-Sagoth filtered through a folk prism.

I feel like the preconcieved expectation took away from sagoth’s offerings this time. None of their albums sound perfectly mastered, If I don’t fully immerse into their music it dosn’t hit like intended. Dark, quiet setting, no visuals or distractions, then every track is magic to me🤘🏻

Bal-Sagoth were pretty much one of the progenitors of what I like to call "fanfare metal", the kind of pompously orchestrated metal with dramatic narrative lyrics that Turisas mastered. IMO Atlantis Ascendant was their weakest album in terms of production and songwriting. Two other songs I would rather recommend are "Arcana Antediluvia" and "Starfire Burning Upon The Ice-Veiled Throne Of Ultima Rule" (their early material had amazing long song titles)

Some might like the old, some the most recent but NONE of their albums beats the ambience of two keyboards present in Starfire Burning Upon the Ice- Veiled Throne of Ultima Thule which, for me, is the winner by faaaaaaaaaaaaar.

you are just ,,metal,, duschbags especialy the ,,metal,,panda that thinks he knows metal music .. ,,atlantis,, is just one mediocre part of a concept story album song of BalSaggoth s opus..you still do not know to listen ..try them from the first album..keep calm &listen with lyrics..they are hell of a ride !
