What a great video; super interesting and informative. It's clear that you have learned a lot about these systems and have put that knowledge into practice. Plus the electrical installations look so perfect and professional; just beautiful. I hope to see you at Annapolis 2020!

Thanks. I honestly do not design it or install it - it is the weakest area of my personal expertise. But we have a top flight team on this front. I am super excited to have Nigel Calder and Edwin Voscamp working closely with Integrel to test them on his 526 and then finalize design specs.

Excellent videos!!! Nice job you are doing. I've got a couple of questions. How much solar can you put on a 442? And what is your opinion about solar panel arches considering performance and production catamarans? Thanks a lot.

Excellent video Phil. I was wondering if you have any designs to use an arch to hold wind generators and lift dingy onto a cradle instead of davits? Thanks, keep up the great work and stay safe.

We have created carbon posts for electronics and can fabricate arches over davits for solar - have done this on #2. Wind generators we would do a carbon pole, bonded to the inner aft stern sections on top area of wet-deck. We do all this sort of thing in composite ourselves. To the extent we can avoid stainless (stain....less!) we do it.

Phil, super job, again... Learned a lot... can electric drive be used to automatically maintain positioning, so you never drag an anchor?

People who rely on electronics too much to avoid mishap eventually have mishaps. Even the Kitty Hawk air craft carrier once dragged anchor in Cannes harbor. Stay focused on what might happen if you drift and have a plan in mind of how to contend with it. And do not trust the GPS at night when entering a foreign port. Come in during daylight only.

Great video and a standard for other boutique manufacturers to adopt. Why the combo of Victron hardware with MasterVolt batteries ?

The 526 is currently all Viktron, the 442 all Mastervolt.

Hi Phil. thanks for the video - one question, if may... i've seen in the other videos that the starter batteries for the engines are still old fashioned gel batteries - why don't you guys use lithium there? that would be about 20, 30kg of savings on each motor, so i'm sure you have a reason, i'm just curious what it is!

Raf, great question. We can, and have, but the Yanmar engines in the past were not receptive to them, nor certainly the alternators. A lot has been changing quickly on this front. I was honestly very lithium resistant until just the past few years, only because I came across a few burnt catamarans that tried lithium early and did not have the regulatory systems quite right. One thing I am sure of is that it is a bad idea to mix and max components and to work with a system that is designed - from the ground up - to work ideally with lithium batteries. Right now our big push is testing the Integrel alternator/generators. We think these have enormous advantages and promise for performance cats with lithium.

Will Balance do an electric propulsion boat say with Ocean Volt servoprop?

Balance will do this, if people ask, so long as they work with Ocean Volt to design the system and work with the contractors in Cape Town that install - and more importantly - warrant the products. But I am to date not a big fan of electric engines. I have seen too many failures and problems in my brokerage business and am yet to see where they offer great advantages - they are not light, they cost a lot more, they are less reliable, the engines get very hot and need a lot of juice to travel far or fast, you still need a generator, or two. And I cannot see how they are more green, either. I do view the Integrels as very green as they turn the engines into free electrical generators of enormous efficiency. I probably need to do a video on electric engines! I am asked this a lot.

PBR - given the time it takes to manage social media, emails, skype, cell phones, PC's, lordy something's got to give! As a former writer I was a stickler about everything, but these days the press of demands make hyper editing a thing of the past.

No idea. Right now the dollar is weakening strongly to the Euro, so our boats are becoming an even better value for Europeans than they already were.

@@balancecatamarans Not good for us AMERICANS. Also I'm currently developing a 14 slip marina in Marathon Florida if you have any plans to compete with as a charter company in the future. Great Boats. Just hope i can make the dream happen.

Anthony. A confession: I honestly spend almost no time on social media and when our Utube page was set up a month or two back I had no idea comments would come in where I would be called to answer. I have done most of our business on email and skype to date, but promise to check this now. The Corona Virus has me working from home in Florida and given me the time to examine this sort of thing more closely. As we are working on some new sailing videos with Dean Paarman in South Africa he pointed out to me that I had a lot of unanswered comments on the U-tube channel. From service standpoint, however, our customers have my cell, skype, email and what'sap and social media has not been where we communicate. Anyways, apologies my friend.
