🇲🇩 Moldova is the least visited country in Europe. And so I came to its capital city Kishinev to see why...It did not take long to find the answer. Years of theft and corruption by politicians has left the locals of the country tripping up on broken pavements and walking past abandoned buildings on their way to collect their 40 Euro pensions.

As a Romanian, it is heartbreaking to see this. On one of the walls of the observatory's staircase you could see the sentence "Acest oras merita mai mult" written on it. It's Romanian for "This city deserves more" and I agree. Romania is plagued by similar corrupt politicians. My heart goes out to Moldova and its people!

I was supposed to travel as an exchange student specifically for the Russian language to Moldova, but Covid changed that trip. I got to go to Kyrgyzstan instead, but still, I feel that it’s this massive yearning for me now to see Moldova and speak with its people.

I happened the same here as Russia after the fall of the USSR. The people who immediately grabbed power simply pillaged everything they could and left. Russia has dozens of Oligarchs who own almost all of the wealth of Russia but now live in the UK or Spain. It is the same with Moldova, all of the politicians in 1991-1995 simply stole everything of value and left. Only now with the younger generation is there a sense of national pride, and things are being built up again.

In general it is a nice country but it is pretty scary walking down the streets alone, no matter if its night or day and no matter your age. @@Amghannam Yea, definitely NL but I've also seen some in Germany and Belgium. Maybe I assumed wrong that other countries have them as well. I can't tell what the double ones are for. Maybe wheelchairs, maybe handcarts, I dunno, but I DO know that even with a helper it's going to bloody hard to get a person in a wheelchair up that ramp. Nevertheless a good thing they're there. It's a damn shame seeing a country go to waste because of corruption. We're not that far behind though..

This a great video. I never really knew anything about Chisinau or Moldova as a whole but this is very eye-opening. The one bit of feedback I'd live is if you could make the translated captions smaller. It was cool that you got he opinions on the locals, I think it'd be much easier to read if it was smaller.

I’m German and I went to Moldova two years ago for a long Easter weekend. Yes, unfortunately, the country is pretty much run down, but I met really beautiful people. As they are not used to tourists, a lot of people would approach you and start having a conversation. The best thing was when a family invited me over for celebrating Easter Sunday at their parents home in the countryside. But it‘s true, most people in Moldova hope that their kids make it out of the country because there are really no opportunities in the country. I wish the people of Moldova that things will get better soon.

This is all because of Hitler and Stablin, you know..?? as they call it... because KGB had to "find" an old an historically accurate name for the place, was actually supposed to be part of Romania nowadays, but sadly, they're all pretty brainwashed and still kissing Russian butt... I'm in Chisinau right now and it's poor for sure but the city is a lot more pleasant than the impression you get from this video. It's very green and a lot of the pavement and benches have been renovated and there's even some pedestrianisation going on. Maybe because there's a new government, but I can't make that judgment obviously. I expected it to be way more dreary and depressing.

This guy is really a showman. He did not show the main streets the church, the Parliament area, museums, embassies area, the parks. It's just selected some horrible delerict places to make videos on and keep saying how how good Russia is. He does not know that almost half a million people were sent by beautiful Russia to Siberia to squash and kill any unrest and even today with Transnistria they keep Russian army at 60 minutes from Chisinau (the capital) in Transnistria and if you dare to sat anything bad about the Russians army you can get more than a half a decade of prison time for starters. If he had any sense or backbone he would ride the bus from Transnistria to Moldova and see how people go daily from the Russian frozen conflict area to Moldova (as poor as he screams out it is) just to have something to put on the table. There is a saying "You can't talk morals with a hungry man". The country is at a geopolitics faltline between the European Union/NATO and the Russian Federation, the weaker this no man's land(arguably, with Russian army in there) the easier it is to keep it broken and derelict. He picked and chose history and misdirected. The country, Moldova is part of a people - Romanians. The Soviet Union had troops on the border on Romania and gave Romanians 48 hours to leave the country or else full invasion of all the country. We lost it without fighting, which is sad I guess, but we are a small country and the Soviet Union was the other world power at that time with USA. So they took occupied, sent to Siberia or chased away any resistance and by braking away half of the historical region of Moldova from Romania they created this frozen conflict - why Moldova can't join the EU and is 4 times poorer than the rest of us Romanians living in Europe. This is why they get passports from us, to have a chance of a better life. There are nice places to see in Chisinau and Moldova (and Ukraine) both are dirt poor but also offer a different perspective than you would get if you would visit Italy or Spain. I would recommend visiting Transnistria, its like time travel to Soviet times, a little bit like North Korea (you will like it).

I met a Moldovan man here in the U.S. as a co-worker. Very nice person. I had heard of Moldova, but knew little about it. He would say, "Any day above ground, is a good day." Kinda told me what Moldova might be like with that one sentence!

When I was a kid, I fell in love with this boy from Moldova. I was at the Italy that time and I met him at school. I really think that he’s cute and kind. I used to chat him and he will kindly reply back. Sadly, I had to return to my country and remember crying thinking that I would never see him again. I tried to find his name in social medias but I can’t seem to find it. Wish I could meet him again and confess my feelings. ✨
