Sausage rolls are not something we see much in the USA, I can't believe they don't carry them in the canteen machines at work, but they did seem kinda dry compared to most of the foods we get from the machines, most have a lot more grease because of the cheap cheese, or just because of the high fat recipes here. As to the out-of-date food, most of the foods here nowadays have a best-buy date to an expiration date because a lot of people were throwing away good food, baby food/formula, and maybe milk, but even from Aldi, Walmart, or wherever, milk can go bad a week before or after the best by date on the jug, so baby food/formula is the only real one to watch out for, best buy dates mean it just won't be quite as fresh and tasty. I hope someday to visit the UK and have read that Greggs has one of the best and sells millions each year and people seem to like the ones from costa coffee, which I hear is very expensive. I'm glad you kinda went with what the working guy would get, thanks. This has been very informative, like how the US has a million different types of hotdogs at thousands of hot dog shops, great video, gives me something to look forward to when I travel east. Please keep the videos coming.

All three are probably made at the same commercial bakery with similar ingredients and variations to suit the brand's recipes. The 1% extra pork in the Walls is the batch pot scrape down, all the little tasty bits that get stuck to the bottom of the pot. Commercially made sausage rolls are good, but homemade are hard to beat. You can make them as fluffy or dence as you like them. And they can be frozen for later use. Another fine review today Gareth. Cheers 👍🤤😀

Having lived throughout various areas in Germany, ( including Celle near your Home camp ), our family shopping was usually done at Lidl. In Germany Lidl and Aldi are like Waitrose or Sainsbury. It was a very busy store. No frills, no blocking off shelves while workers restocked. They would bring out a pallet and just take the tops off of the boxes. Apart from being a very good store for value, German items are way above the UK when it comes to nutrition and additives. For fresh meat? There aren't that many butchers around. So once a month we would visit the shop that had its own abattoir. Each animal that was put down had a vets certificate explaining why the animal had been put down and that it had been tested for human consumption. This certificate would then be displayed in the shop. We could literally fill our freezer with half a sheep, and half a pig for peanuts. Beef was a little harder to get, as back then most farmers only dealt in dairy herds. So unless an animal needed to be put down for a broken leg or because it failed to produce milk? Then it wasn't a common meat. When we finally moved back to the UK we were pleased to find both an Aldi and a Lidl nearby. However, amongst our family we had someone we nicknamed " the Duchess " because she couldn't understand why we shopped at such stores and not the higher end stores. Eventually we invited her for a dinner of sirloin steak, chips and mushrooms. My wife told her it was all bought at Sainsbury's. She loved it, the only thing was it was all bought in Lidls. Let's face it a cow is just a cow. It eats grass and other stuff and then ends up in a store. All the stuff about " free range " and " 21 day matured " is just a gimmick. OK, you get corn fed chickens, which do taste nice and the corn makes them look nice with their yellow colouring, but does it taste better? I recently bought a cooks syringe. So now when I cook my meat I can inject the flavour I like. Do this before you cook. If you like garlic, lemon/lime, Guinness or other herbs? Just make a sauce from what you like and inject into the meat. Not only will it flavour the meat, but it will keep the meat moist on the plate. I have never had a complaint about any of the meat from Lidl or Aldi. So why would I want to spend £5+ for one sirloin steak from one supermarket when I can get two for under £6 in my German store? I have tried both options and I can honestly say that, taste wise, there isn't much between them, apart from the bigger high end stores inject more food colouring and preservatives to make their product look good on the shelf. Apart from that, as a 70 year old pensioner, it's nice to be able to buy quality meals at a price I can afford.

@@BaldFoodieGuy I also love a good steak. Which is why I watched a video on the raising of Kobe beef in Japan. These animals are pampered beyond anything I've ever seen. They are fed top quality goods, some of which have been soaked in the best beers. They have calming classical music played into their stalls 24/7. Highly trained ' beef masseuse ' are employed to give them a daily massage. They even have people reading historic Japanese stories to them in order for them to understand why they are so important to Japanese life. When I look at my life compared to theirs? I did most of my drinking in NAAFI bars. I do like a lot of classical music, but if the wife was at home it was banned. And if I fancied a massage from the Mrs I had to get a few vodkas down her hatch first. No wonder Kobe beef is so expensive. I think I'll stick to my Lidl/Aldi sirloin 🥴🥴

I just popped into Aldi. I'm terrible for remembering prices! I noticed their custard cream biscuits had gone up from 35p to 49p overnight. 40% people will soon be starving and sales will plummet. When will companies realise that profiteering will end badly? For example my local Morrisons is charging £1.75.9 a litre diesel, I visited Liverpool last week and paid £1.59.9. Profiteering is creating inflation. How can Morrisons justify 72p a gallon extra? Love your show.

Gareth Another great video. There is BBE and a use by date BBE is a quality date so it can be consumed after that date but the manufacturer reccomends that its eaten before that date as it is at its best...... lots of people throw food away that is after this date, food waste if you ask me! 🙂 Use by date is for safety but I think these are dated far too early, If it looks good and smells good then get it down you. Pukka and walls both good brands and food, so a bit odd that there's a 25p price difference but maybe it comes down to overheads and costs. Back in the day it was walls everywhere for ice cream and it's still as good today. With today's cost of living, the cheapest brands will survive.

Thanks for the great comparison. I like the fact that they lack pepper as that would be a no thanks for me personally. I've noticed Tesco seem to like putting a lot of pepper in their products, I'm assuming it is to try and disguise the fact they are trying to reduce the salt but I don't think it works as well, pepper has to much it's own flavour rather than being flavour enhancing. 🙄

Calamity! My usual McDonald's was CLOSED! The entrance blocked off with traffic cones. I parked in a different car park nearby and walked to the restaurant just to see whether it was only the drive-thru that was affected, but a member of staff came out and explained that the whole restaurant had a power outage since 5:30 a.m. and none of the IT was working yet. Bummer. I've had the Walls sausage roll before, but not seen the Pukka one. I wouldn't get the really cheap ones, because I tried the Eastmans from Tesco a few months ago and they were rank. However, what I did see in Morrisons was a new pie from Pukka. Meat and potato. Well, I say "new" because I've not seen it before. All the Pukka pies were on offer at £1.50. For sausage rolls I've gone back to the Greggs at Iceland, 4 for £3.

To be honest, 2 of the little ones are the same weight as the other two, so it's still 24p for likely the same amount. I think that's a fair comparison

@@SuperLittleTyke and that's why it's a fair comparison. Still less than 48p for the same amount of pork. But I don't think anyone is eating sausage rolls for the pork content really, just the calories. Either way you look at it though, still cheaper with the crap ones :)

Happy New Year! Great video as usual mate. It's funny how you often comment about pepper. I don't associate pepper with sausage rolls at all, Cornish pasties yes, but not sausage rolls. I did a quick Google on sausage roll recipes and only one out of ten had any ground pepper in it. Seems like it's not a standard ingredient! I know you can get spiced (pepper, peppercorn, paprika etc) sausage rolls which sound like they might be more appealing for you. Might be a subject for another video!

Asda did pig in blanket sausage rolls over Christmas that were really nice. From the chicken counter. The cheap Asda ones are just for families as a snack. Or to dish out at work. They fill a hole, it all goes to make a turd 🤣. If I'm out and about I'll always try to get to Greggs for a sausage roll if I can.

I''ve been putting a pack of 8 Tesco sausage rolls in the fridge for weeks. A tip is to wrap each in a small freezer PET bag when you open the box, they stay fresher that way. I have them with HP fruity sauce as Tesco don't have Branston sauce, and normal HP does not do it for me. Asda is too far away, and the car park is always packed, so we don't go there often.

It's only recent I've found your channel. I've noticed how neat you are when you eat your food. Your mum "dragged you up well!" Great comparison. I've got some sausagemeat in freezer. Going to add onion, Worcester sauce and black pepper and some puff pastry. Be interesting to see how much these work out. They have frozen Pukka sausage rolls but they are 2,49€. Can't be bothered doing the mat, but all imported English food to Spain really expensive, so I have to adjust and overcome (or whatever army saying you use!).

Hummm Pukka 27% pork and has more protein per 100gr than the Walls with 28% pork. Maybe the Pukka has more jelly or something. The Asda Essential ones also have more protein although they only had 17% pork. Maybe the flour is of a higher quality with more gluten etc. I would go for the Asda Essentials. Although all of them looked good just a shame about the palm oil, I would use lard without a doubt. A good review.👌👍 You could always make some good old potato pastry, it is wonderful for homemade pies and sausage rolls.

I like Pukka pie and sausage rolls, but what puts me off them, like a lot of other products is that they use Palm Oil, which leaves a lot of us angry what they are doing to produce this oil. No respect for nature. So the companies using the oil in their products are just as bad for buying it. At least the Walls and Just Essentials don't use it, so why does Pukka???? Shame on them. Good comparison. All the best bud.
