We sat down with Swen Vincke (Game Director), Adam Smith (Lead Writer), and Nick Pechenin (Lead Systems Designer) to break down every single class in Baldur's Gate 3 including the brand-new Monk class.
Baldur's Gate 3 is a massive RPG based on the the Dungeons and Dragons TTRPG. The game is being developed by Larian Studios and has been in early access for the last few years. It comes to PC on August 3, 2023 and PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023.

@@Karlach_ I generally will have one or the other in my party. One of each is a bit redundant in my eyes, as the Bard has a wealth of skill options that include pickpocket and pick locks - the two essential Rogue skills. They also get many skills per level as the Rogue does, so they're not any better in that regard either. One thing that they do lack however is the Prestige Rogue classes, like Assassin. That isn't available, so if that's what you're looking to become - just use a Rogue and call it good because as I said they're as versatile as a Bard they just don't have the Perform fluency (UNLESS you choose a feat for that).

@GomulDart
@GomulDart 10 ай бұрын
probably chose spores because of it's relevance to certain parts of BG3. Lots of druids in Act 1, and without spoiling too much, there are some areas and quests that are appropriate for a Spores Druid. There's also a lot of Underdark in this game as well, which is another reason I think they chose spores druid and gloomstalke ranger in particular. They seem to have limited themselves to 3 subclasses per class, otherwise it would get messy pretty quick and balancing would be all over the place, and it seems like they chose subclasses that are appropriate for, or relate to, the setting. They did squeeze some subclasses together too, like pact of blade/hexblade warlock and some others.

Wow, I just pitched this exact build for a character idea to my discord group (we have a 4 player run planned at release) but I was actually having trouble figuring out how to do my build. Part of me wants to start Monk to lvl 6 for shadow step asap, then go gloomstalker but I haven't decided on how many levels given BG3's lvl 12 cap. This might sound crazy, but I'm considering 1 lvl Monk, then 1 lvl Ranger (for Hunter's Mark to use with Flurry of Blows for early damage boost), then back to Monk til lvl 6. The main reason for this is that I don't know how long it will take to get to lvls 7-8 in game, but it'll probably feel like forever since we're doing a completionist run. I don't want to lag behind the rest of my party too much but I figure I can stomach getting my 2nd attack one level later than everyone else. Care to share any tips?

@@theexpatriate Yeah, the level order issue is always one of the most challenging parts of multiclassing for me. I think it's basically impossible to say right now since we don't know the full extent of the changes Larian has made to the Monk. During the class showcase, they mentioned a new ability called "Shadow Strike", and it's not clear where that fits in (is it truly an additional ability, or a replacement for Shadow Step that folds in an attack a la Backstab from DOS2? if so, can it be used out of combat?).

I am playing Diablo for few weeks and i got totally bored. No variety. I picked BG3 last week and it has been amazing. The flexibility of the build is insane

Understandable, I enjoyed Diablo 4 from level 1 to maybe 55. Not a lot of variety, sure, but it was a steady trickle of progression constantly. It was a relaxing game for 95% of the time, without the exception being the last 30 seconds of most bosses. Leveling began to slow to a grind after level 50. So I never made it past the first paragon board, but I like the idea of it.

@@ex0stasis72 yeah after level 55 I pushed to level 75+ in the hopes it will help me in some interesting build, but the drop at level 75 is worse than drop at level 55-60. Only single player is ok but that does not justify the price

Looking forward to multiclassing like mad. Shadowheart with Rogue levels when I'm playing the primary Cleric, Astarion with gloomstalker, Lae'zel with barbarian (you know she has anger issues)(assuming I don't throw her off a cliff), Karlach already spent some time in war so being a fighter works well (plus we can throw Lae'zel off the cliff!), and Will is an obvious paladin.

Thank you so much for releasing this video! As a newb to the world of DnD, I've felt very unsure about the class I wanna make first. Thanks to this video, I'm thinking monk, cleric, or druid sound phenomenal. I cannot WAIT to sink my teeth into this game. Gonna wait for PS5 release with baited breath. Thank you larian studios - this game is shaping up to be an experience that we will tell our grandchildren about. I am ecstatic.

They basically made a comprehensive and faithful adaption of the 5th edition D&D rules. The original Baldur's Gate games were the first proper video game adaptions of the 2nd edition D&D ruleset, so this third entry is being done very much in the same spirit even though it's also a very different game.
