To be fair, the others don't seem to realise what's going on. The options were also to shake off the feelings, ignore the feelings, or publicly enjoy the pleasure, and Tav chose to enjoy it - there's quite a big difference between those options. Zero attempt was made to prevent everyone around you from that.

i'm very impressed. all of the characters are written super well, and their baggage and responses to that baggage feel very real and very authentic. wall of text incoming: shadowheart is conflicted and confused because the memories of her abuse have been wiped, but the trauma still lingers; and without her memories, she attributes that suffering to shar to justify it, being that she was raised in a cult that values that suffering. a fair assumption. astarian craves power because he's been powerless and at other people's mercy for so long. makes sense. karlach would die for her freedom because she was sold out by those she trusted most, and thrown into literal hell. figures. gale wants redemption because he flew too close to the sun and ruined an incredible, LITERALLY divine life. understandable. wyll i haven't had in my party much, but afaik he wants to live up to the ideals of justice and compassion he was raised with, while battling his metaphorical inner demons, and one quite literal devil. lae'zel i also haven't really had in my party. but from what i can gather, she was raised to value authority unquestionably, and might to an extreme degree, but is now forced to reckon with the concept that the authority she devotes herself to does not care about her, and may not have good intentions at all.

@@DumplingDoodle not many ppl know this, but halsin had a not so brief stint basically as a sex slave chained up to a couples bed, and escaped from it. he had hundreds of years since then, but its clear that he still hasnt worked through that trauma. Only the passage of time has dulled the pain from losing his autonomy, which is why he values the freeing nature of , well, nature above all else.

I wish they could do it equally, because they're quite disrespectful regarding Halsin's sexual/kidnapping trauma.

They all have trauma and baggage they need to work through during the story, but unlike most examples that simply romanticize mental illness, theirs actually feels like trauma, and their reactions and feelings towards that trauma feels uncannily real. A lesser game would have played into astarian’s flirty nature to make a joke. But larian has made it very clear they aren’t a studio that puts out lesser games.

I think it's more weird that people are laughing at Tav. They're basically going to be astrally molested for their entire life and everyone's like "ew stop jerking off in the town square" about it. It's something that I feel like you really don't need to have been a sex slave for 200 years to be sympathetic about, and yet none of the other companions seem to even remotely care that someone is basically having sex as you right at that second and you can feel it. It's weird that people could dislike Astarion's response and not think it's weird that Astarion is the only sympathetic one.

fr i was not expecting lae'zel to be so fucking horny when i started this game, like at all. didn't expect anyone to be honestly, the sex scenes were a rude awakening lmao, but especially not the pissy alien. in my game she found out astarian was a vampire and said something along the lines of "a vampire? so be it. my flesh is not so easily tasted, anyway... unless i have invited you to do so." while smirking 😭

@@anastasiamhr Oh the translation is wrong? or unreliable? Honestly, i just assumed that the setting wasn't coherent with his lore or taking liberties and that elves age much faster in Baldur's gate 3. It happenned in other games and fantasy settings.

@@iurilourenco It's discussed after a certain encounter with two Drow. He was a sex slave to a drow matriarch and kept in a bedroom for about three years. But instead of it being treated seriously like with Astarion, Halsin claims it wasn't "all that bad," which really rubs me the wrong way. You're not missing much not keeping him around, his writing is pretty low quality and gross compared to the others.

@@iurilourenco its secret lore you only get if you fuck the drow twins in that one brothel and you let him join you. he says he was captured in the underdark by drow nobles and forced to be a sex slave until escaping in a raid from another house i think the reason he responds as he does is his dialogue about this (at least from what i saw) truly is very "i'm not traumatized and actually it was good for me :)" boomer dad cope. that or he doesnt put together that its incubus stuff, unlike astarion

opposite experience for me. i sort of liked him in early access when he barely had any content. i liked him at the beginning of the full release game when he barely had any content. by mid-act 3, he had grown so fucking insufferable that i permanently replaced him in my party after killing cazador (who needs a rogue when you have a silly barbarian to smash doors open for you?). i think the lack of any sort of remorse or empathy when he found the gur children is what finally did it for me. i know it technically wasn't your fault and that you're straight up racist, man, but can you at least try to comfort those poor kids? or be sad about it? instead of cracking a joke about how you didn't *seduce* them to kidnap them? smh. also, yeah, the racism towards the dnd roma people pissed me off to no extent. it's not "fantasy racism" if the "fantasy race" is just a normal human race based off of a real normal human race. he is also fantasy racist towards the short races too though lmao

Respec him with Withers! I turned my Astarion into a bard for a while, and then a monk/rogue/fighter. I am a ranger/rogue/fighter currently

I'd respec him just to take him along. I respec all the barely used followers as healbot priests as they're not so gear dependent.
