You should absolutely check out the OST "Raphael's Final Act" from this same game. The soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal, but Raphael's Final Act is just an entirely different beast!

The "down down down by the river" melody is a leitmotif that gets used throughout the game's soundtrack. It is cut content so not a spoiler anymore but this song was originally intended as being "sung" by the parasite in the character's brain. It was trying to seduce them into letting go and giving up control. Coming to sit down by the river in your mind with the entity and lose yourself forever. The leitmotif shows up in other songs and its often always just in the background as a way of the parasite's presence constantly being felt. That story line was cut though so now its just songs with a connecting leitmotif that no longer have that original intention behind them.

I love the end of this song "Dont wake me up, just leave me there dreaming."

The OST "I want to live" kinda became the center of my obsession lately. It's so good when you think about some of the in game character stories. The game is a blast including all the music.

When this slowly crept onto the character creation screen it felt like magic. It felt like I was under a spell. I couldn't stop listening to it!

Nightsong, The Power & Raphael's Final Act are incredible

Borislav is one of the best. Fell in love with his music when Two Worlds 2 (a not very good game that his music did an immense amount of heavy lifting in) came out, and it's been so great seeing him continue to improve his craft over the years.

I was surprised when I started the game up and heard this in the character creator. It made it feel like I was starting the most expensive video game ever, with that kind of music production. The vocals are amazing of course, but I also think those background swells that almost sound anachronistic at 0:40 and at the end really add to it. It kind of makes you go "ok, this is your typical fantasy game".

The original lore of this song is so haunting too, playing when you're creating the character. Meant to be a voice beckoning you to give your life up and let an entity have control. Hypnotizing, seducing, and killing. "don't wake me up" is the entity telling you not to try to get rid of it, just let it remain with you until you finally lose control.

You have GOT to review 'Raphael's Last Act'. Not only is it an incredible piece in it's own right, but it's made more awesome when you add the fact that it's literally the dude you're fighting, singing his OWN BOSS MUSIC. Apparently the composer threw that out as an idea, and the whole studio loved it. Freaking epic.

A tad of trivia from Finland 😃 The original singer for Nightwish was Tarja Turunen. She's had classical training as a singer, which is why her voice is so awesome.

for, me, track 31 - Song Of Balduran was the most amazing one

I’m glad you did get around to reacting to this one! I haven’t had a chance to catch you live yet so apologies if this is already planned but I do hope you listen to the rest of the soundtrack. Some of my favorite songs from Baldur’s Gate 3 come from the last half of the soundtrack.

For anyone wondering, this incredible vocalist is Mariya Anastasova. She also sang Song of Balduran and Raphael's Final Act, but her talent really stands out in Song of Balduran. She's extremely good from a technical standpoint, meaning voice control and all that, but there's something about the tone of her voice that I absolutely love that really sends her songs over the top for me. Let's just say that if she were one of those harpies on the beach trying to lure me in I would absolutely need somebody to come save me, I would be like the child in that scene just completely unable to react 🤣

When you go down to meet them the first time you hear the call to go "down down down" Such a good imitation of what a mind-controlling call would be like to have the PLAYER themselves suffer from this earworm song ( i say suffer in a good way ! song is amazing ) " I mean the lyrics tell everything! "Lace your heart with mine Let your sleeping soul take flight .... Just leap the flames to take a chance To be with me tonight ..... Don't wake me up Just leave me there dreaming " And the end with the creepy trippy sound just confirms it for me

BG3 is my first game like this since dungeon seige. incredible game!

For those wondering, the vocals are done by "Mariya Anastasova", she has a KZfaq channel too...

It kinda has this ghostly sound at the beginning and end that really I think set the mood as sort of mystical/spiritual... Makes the song sort of feel like it's being sung by a fairy/ghost... It'd be really good in a cinematic of sorts I think since you could have the first of those ghostly sounds play as a camera pans over past some ghostly/magical imagery to the singer... And then by the time the song ends I could imagine the singer character disappearing with a similar ghostly/magical imagery effect...

Honestly Borislav slaps with this soundtrack, however I think his works in divinity original sin 2 are even more interesting. What I like a lot is that the male voice you hear in the background of this song is Borislav himself, or it used to be in one of the versions of this game.

BG3 has been an amazing game. I haven't been this hooked to a game since RDR2. My GOTY, definitley one of my favourites

Down by the River leitmotif is very up front in the game, in your face type of OST. You have to like it to enjoy the emotional beats of the story. And unfortunately I don't like it. And unfortunately I don't like it. So every time game is pushing Down by the River theme I just cringe. I don't know why
