@jonnenne It's ghastly enough that many studios delay tech updates to match the console cycles but the notion of holding games back entire two generations of consoles that are mediocre the day they release already is ridiculous. It's either a crap experience or a worse game, there are hard limits on how far you can and can't optimize.

When I first heard the Harpy song, it was from a distance and I instinctively followed to see where it was coming from. Before I even got there, I had the thought "This is probably a siren drawing me into a fight, and it's working." I was mostly right... I don't know if it's on the OST but Bards in the game can use the Perform skill to play music. One of the songs they can play, "The Queen's High Seas", is one of Kirill's works. I remember hearing it in taverns in Divinity: Original Sin. The Harpy Song really struck me. Especially in the game, it plays far in the distance near some rock formations in the water while you come down from higher up. Its really cool because its existing in the game-world instead of being on a meta level. There is also a child that stands on the rocky shore and is mesmerized by it wanting to go closer. When you walk there the harpies attack. And the harpies also use this song as an ability to lure you closer. And my favorite combat sound is Twister Force, it has such a badass vibe and feral-ness to it.

Aww. the video ending just before listening to the track 'Last Light'. I was wondering how he would react to that one as it's one of my favorite pieces. Is there going to be a Part 2 to this video?

Oh yes, I love hearing the power behind the intentional (dissonant) vibration of the strings, they are deliberately exaggerated to convey the tension, danger and excitement of the moment. They use that technique heavily in the battle songs which make them much more epic during the game, especially the Twisted Force track which is my favorite by far, it really gets you in the right mood or translates what you're feeling at the moment. To me the musicians are the "unsung" heroes of most games. I've been playing for a while and I can say they can turn a simple game into an epic adventure, or even save somewhat bad games. Music tracks for games such as World of Warcraft, Command & Conquer, Starcraft 1 and many more are unforgetabble.

I think you should react to some of the OST from Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 as well. Some that come to mind immediately are: - Main theme (BG1) - Main theme (BG2 SoA) - Main theme (BG2 ToB) - Underdark theme (BG2 SoA)

This is such a good ost, it gives me nostalgic Lord of the Rings vibes, it’s so memorable, it’s so thematic especially in scenes like the harpy fight, where the song comes and goes as you desperately try to smack the singer in her face. The main theme is so catchy

Loved hearing your thoughts but it's a shame so much of this was dedicated to combat music! One thing to keep in mind with the combat tracks is that alot of it is dynamic, a common occurance is starting a fight with Nine Blades and whenever the player turns the tide of the fight and kills the biggest guy in the scene, the music will respond to that and transition into Sixteen Strikes. Its a wonderful technique that really makes the music match the pace of the players actions! Unfortunately because the tracks are designed to respond in this way they can definitely feel samey, especially as they use the same instrumentation. The Harpy Song is another example of this technique but it stands out way more, the track only plays when one of the harpies begins to sing. If you manage to resist the song and then interrupt them and break the spell, the game responds to this and returns back to the standard combat music.

something a lot of people miss with the menu music (title 1) is that it incorporates the old bg 1 menu music before it tones down you have those big fanfares which were exactly what the bg1 theme built on!

Would've love to see you look up some visuals from the game or ganeplay just to see how well the music works with the visuals and core turn based strategy combat of the game! The combat music is so good at being tense and stressful as you make decisions but will also dynamically shift to more triumphant tension when you get lucky and gain a sudden advantage like taking out the most dangerous enemy.

So true, also i don't know if it's just me but battle themes in this game, along with the sound the game does, i mean that ''click'' when you end your turn just also adds tension and overall makes you emotional. Maybe i'm exaggerating tho, sorry.

what I appreciate the most about 44:28 is that we hear her practice, we get a sneak peak at her suck as she tries to practice the song and cant get it right, its a treat to hear someone with a beautiful voice not quite get it right lol but we see the final product of her practicing
