Dude they ask you to take a guide because its trekking early morning on a freakin mountain, if something happens to you its their responsibility because its an accident prone place. Legal ho sakta hai. And google maps worked at the base, mountains elevation pe hote hai, phones stop working. this is how accidents happen, they weren't looting you, you were being stubborn 🙂

I live in the Philippines and can assure you that it is not a scam almost everywhere they charge for waterfall entries and even at the beaches - there is nothing for free. As for trekking, it depends, but mostly they ask visitors to hire guides and do not allow entry into the trekking areas without a guide, for safety reasons. This is simply how things work here.

As someone who has been to Bali on a real trip… this is such a wrong piece of information. People in Bali are one of the nicest people, very receptive to tourists n their needs. As a vegetarian you get some of the best vegan n vegetarian options. They have strict rules about their gods n temples which is OK, you have to accept customs n learn about them. Last thing, you actually cannot trek alone due to safety reasons. Looks like you did not travel but just visited the place. Get the facts right before you advertise!
