🔶🔸 Welcome to Rock Solid Rig! 🔸🔶
Replacing ball joints is a drag and we wanted to find a better solution for our jeep so we teamed up with American Iron Off-Road to test the stability of their ball joint delete and find out if it can withstand the challenges we throw at it. This video shows you the install of the ball joints, if you want to see a long term review and follow up then make sure you turn on the notification bell 🛎 so you never miss a release! If you like what we are doing make sure you click the like button 👍 and let us know if you have any questions in the comments down below!!
**Torque Specs for the delete kit should be:**
1. Torque the BOTTOM OF THE TOP lock nut to 40 foot pounds (the gold part)
2. Tighten TOP OF THE BOTTOM nut (the purple part) until it is snug against the stud, about 1/16th of an inch of thread should be seen (as per the instructions).
3. Torque the BOTTOM LOCK NUT to 50 foot pounds.
4. Repeat step 1, but torque it down to 50 foot pounds.
5. Repeat step 3, but torque it down to 85 foot pounds.

I'm running Duratrash Gold upper and lower ball joints from AutoZone. They have unlimited mile lifetime guarantee, all of their steering and suspension components do actually. In all my experiences, if you go with Duratrash Gold they're better than OE. Love the design of these. Been seeing them on FB for awhile. My biggest concern is how well the o-ring can keep water/mud out. Note: JK ball joints are different top to bottom. Top ball joints don’t move around on an axis like the bottom. Keep us posted on your test results for sure.
@RockSolidRig
@RockSolidRig 3 жыл бұрын
That was a concern for us as well, I know it won't be watertight but with the washers and o-rings and how they fit and torque down I think it'll be fine. Definitely no chunky mud can get in. We plan on doing a follow up at the beginning of May and then again after the first 10k. The warranty he offers on these also gave me some piece of mind. He's been great to deal with and watching the way he's handled revisions and changes to the product and shipped new parts to existing customers just so they aren't left behind when he makes a change has been awesome to see. A+ customer service, that's for damn sure and that's not an easy thing to come by these days.

For disconnecting the drag link from th knuckle rather than hitting the nut on the joint hit the knuckle hard right where the link connects it should pop free. Also not sure if you have the adapters but OTC (7894) makes a specific one to line up with the balljoint, a lot of jeeps end up needing knurled balljoints as pushing them out wrong wallows the hole.

For the ball joints that share the load between them, all they are mostly doing is either the top ball joint shaft is slightly shorter or the lower ball joint is slightly longer! Please take note that this is only like a half of a millimeter or less in difference but this offset is just enough to allow the top ball joint to support more weight!

They were definitely tight coming out, the deletes are designed to have that texture so anybody can use them regardless if they've had knurled ball joints or not. @RockSolidRig
@RockSolidRig 4 ай бұрын
@@joerouth6255 sorry, I didn't get a notification of this comment. The main difference is in the bottom assembly. It's made so the nut and stud sit more recessed allowing for better clearance of the u-joint. This allows for those running RCV shafts to not have clearance issues. There are some other minor changes in coating used on the parts as well. They changed up the instructions and assembly process to be more....user friendly. By that I mean really dumbed it down so those that keep messing up installs have no excuse to blame the instructions hahaha. If you have any questions on install don't hesitate to reach out, either here or on our Facebook page/group.

The top ball joint isn't a ball at all. It's a "follower" joint. Even brand new it will slide up and down freely. It only controls axial play. The lower ball joint takes the load of the vehicle weight.

Dynatrac has one now that can be rebuilt by removing 2 screws but it’s still $150 for the rebuild kit but you won’t have to take the ball joint out.
