This sounds like a traditional relationship between a man and a woman. The man is all the harder, louder notes and sounds from the 12 string, the woman is gently soothing with the sounds from the kora. They go through a few arguments and a few moments and love.

Its a wonderful sound. Why did I have to find out about this at the age of 70! This is the equal of any music in the world. So much information is kept hidden of the accomplishments of people of color!

I concur I discovered the the kora, balathon, & the ngoni at the age of 66. Try listening to catrin finch & seckou keita. 👍

@@Jon-nx1yp It’s a completely different universe to them. Rooted in the art of improvisation and rhythms which neither titan of European art music ever achieved. As a player of both styles of music, this here is very old and immeasurably complex and vast. Spend time with it. Haha. Our classical virtuosos struggle mightily with it. It’s is the great secret kept from the world for generations. Every part of the world has its contribution to the triangle of music. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Last year while sick I discovered the kora and its musicians. A lot of music I did not know existed, from Orchestre Baobab to Rajery, all fantastic musicians - have not listened to anything else since ! Thank you KZfaq and all the wonderful people who share this music with us !

I am so sorry our TSA had no idea what they were destroying. I'm sorry we HAVE a TSA and that they feel entitled to dismantle people's property without asking. They removed a beautiful voice from the world that cannot be replaced. :(

There's good news! Thanks to donations from around the world, Ballake Sissoko has a new kora! Instead of the traditional round neck with braided leather tuning rings seen here, the new kora has a square neck with geared tuning heads (like a guitar's). Nevertheless he seems pleased with it, which is all that matters.
