Colorism is definitely something that is a global issue, not just in the black community. Indians, Asians, Latinos, etc. All experience this same disgusting truth of colorism. Speaking for the black community, as a proud black woman I wish we could start to do the work within our race and take a look within ourselves to undo the hate that was taught to some of us, teach self-acceptance, love, and unity🙏🏾☮️❤

i really love this interview and podcast. what up doh lol. amy is so real, articulate and talented beauty. colorism is real because of the very simple concept of us associating white with good and black with evil and dark. we must expand our minds as a people. we need to reframe our thinking and expand our minds beyond color and see a person for their unique talents and gifts. i love how she’s not acting like a victim. she is “that girl”. period.

It’s one thing to feel like therapy isn’t necessarily the move to save a relationship u done with. But don’t say you don’t believe in it all together. Unless you really don’t. And if that’s the case your just wrong. Therapy is life changing and never hurts a situation. It can only make you better. But it also took me till almost 40 to realize just how incredibly and simple therapy it. I love Amy. I followed her from the beginning. She even responded to me back n forth once on ig like a million yrs ago. I’m a huge fan. So I’m not hating! Don’t come for me! I’m just a huge mental health/self care advocate!!!!

Just had this conversation with my daughter a few months ago and we too were trying to figure out what happened. I believe what happened was brown/dark skinned women were always hated and the casting companies decided to get them off the screen and push light skinned and biracial women to these guys that always fetishize over them anyway.

37:34 it's not a big deal for singers to not write their songs. It's a big deal for rappers to not write their songs because singers can get away with not writing because of having vocal talent that is undeniable. Rappers don't have that same leeway because anybody can repeat spoken words written on a paper. Where rappers have to stand out is their delivery, their performance, their look and their presentation
@Happiness1876

It's a business and the record company going to look for what sells the most, soo even artist who writes the lyrics will also rap people lyrics which have been written for them
@BreyenJaimes
@BreyenJaimes 11 ай бұрын
@@Happiness1876 i agree with you. That's not what I was referring to. I'm moreso speaking about the semantics of why singers never get attacked for not writing their songs and rappers do. You're speaking on the business of music and I'm speaking on the perception of talent by the public. There's a distinction between the two. Can people who wrote their own songs have writers, absolutely. Can people who don't ever write pick a pen and put out a hot, absolutely especially nowadays. But singers having an unmistakable talent will always draw the line on why writing is more respected and expected in rap.

@Ashley-il9wk thanks for giving context to the clip. Sadly, her saying or thinking "I'm not even that dark" still plays into the colorist narrative because it gives an impression that because she is of a "lighter tone", she wasn't expecting that treatment. To be honest, Amy is very dark skin.
