We challenged a group of ballet dancers to try to keep up with professional powerlifters. Can the dancers nail the right technique for their squats? Will they prove their upper body strength and balance with the deadlift? These athletes take the ultimate test and see if their endurance and strength are enough to keep up!

Find yourself a powerlifting gym! Make sure women are comfortable working out there- that’s a sign that you’re in a good, supportive environment and women LOVE to cheer other lifters!

I feel like dancers are really good at trying other sports because they’re so used to being in a very strict environment and are really good at listening and following instructions and being very aware of their body. They did amazing!!

yesss!! I'm smiling watching this back again. Having the powerlifters cheering me on in the gym made me feel invincible even though I was quite uncomfortable going into this haha!! Can't wait for everyone to see them try ballet too!! Both sides have a lot of respect and love for each other after this experience :)

What I love about this series is the respect that it gives to all types of athletes. Nobody is ever demeaned for the type of athlete they are. I've had experiences with people (mostly men) who only seem to think weight lifting and bodybuilding is the only type of athleticism that exists. So often sports such as cheerleading, dancing and gymnastics aren't taken as seriously because for some reason they are portrayed as "feminine."

I have a friend who's a powerlifter and she loves tough-talking the guys who come in and see what seems like a little girl half their size, and yet she's deadlifting twice what they can manage.

Always makes me giggle too, I'm a male ballet dancer and all the dudes flock to me at the gym cause of my legs,giving me compliments and asking how I got legs like that. I laugh and say about 10 years of dance training lol

omg she's such a ballet dancer I can't (I mean it in a good way) but the woman in white when she steps back her toes are pointed (ballet dancers are taught that the second your foot loses contact with the ground it should be pointed) and the way she's gripping the barbell is how you position your hands for barre. I love it!

I have never done power lifting, but to me those weights seem ridiculously low. After an injury, the doctor will tell you not to lift anything heavier than 50lbs.

@@ireallyreallyhategoogle If you made your living relying on the fact that your body was in perfect working order would you risk that to prove a point for a video? I wouldn't. And if you think they aren't strong watch the video where the lifters try dancing. And I've never met anyone with a high pain tolerance and the trick of never complaining about a physical demand better than a ballerina.

@@rebeccagilpin3245 1- Then don't make the video. 2- I watched the lifters try dancing video. 3- No one is talking about pain tolerance. This is a video about powerlifting. You are supposed to be able to lift that weight exactly ONE time before needing to rest. It is supposed to be the absolute maximum you can lift.

I love when he pointed out his toes after the bench press. They all did such beautiful jobs, and the powerlifters were so nice and supportive!! Faith in humanity restored.

Strength isn't necessarily determined by muscle size, depending on stimuli you can grow smaller but denser muscle or larger bulkier muscle

CNS training does more than muscle size. Powerlifters and olympic weightlifters tend to be leaner than body builders for this reason

My sister's sensei held a karate workshop for ballet dancers. They were DEADLY. They even surprised themselves. I would love to have seen it.

I think the ballet carryover really shined through when it came to the deadlift. They all have really good hip mobility so good on the powerlifter to peep that for sumo.

Something I've really enjoyed about the videos I've seen so far in this series is how good they all are at teaching! Really breaking down the technical stuff clearly and also super encouraging and constructive. Love it!

It would be interesting to see how strong they actually are. They didn't get anywhere close to their one rep max. It makes sense though, to keep professional dancers safe when doing an internet video.

I remember seeing a comment on the weightlifters try ballet video saying that the two crafts are not very similar. Cool to see that there are similarities (in terms of how to hold the body in position for various performances).

Us lifters just truly love watching people progress and succeed. I would love for lifting to be more inviting, it’s really for everyone and it gives everyone so many benefits and it is truly empowering There’s always going to be jerks but then there are truly awesome people out there that would completely support you If you’re interested in lifting I highly encourage you to try something new!

I love the weight lifting/body building community so much! It can be toxic at times but it also has one of the best atmospheres and communities! I’ve always felt welcomed and supported, the only time anyone gives you dirty looks and say mean comments at the gym is if they are insecure with themselves so they feel the need to project. Love this for them!

As a lay person, I didn't think ballet dancers had any tight areas on their bodies. I was really shocked to see that they had difficulty getting down in that deep squat just like I would.

ballet is actually one of the more stiff forms of dance! most of the flexibility is focused in the hips (turnout) and the back of the legs, even though flexibility all over is the end goal

I think its because they always have pointed toes which shortens the Achilles so thats the one thing they dont need to stretch as much

I didn't expect the skinny guy to be able to carry more than 50kgs but he did deadlift 73kgs with no problem. Goes to show how effortless ballerinas make everything look.. almost magical.

Loved watching this episode along with the powerlifters doing ballet. Each one of them were so supportive of each other and there was no discrimination between the sports. What I loved most as well was how every one of them really tried to learn and gave their best in the exercises.

I have exceptionally wide squats compared to my PT due to a precious ankle injury and having very wide set hips; the difference between any two people can seem pretty big but we are achieving the same thing 💖

This is great. I do ballet and do strength training. I did ballet for 18 years and i am a strength and movemeny coach as well. The strength training really compliments the dancing because dancers are normally so afraid of lifting weights this is great to see.

I'm surprised by how much individuality there is in power lifting. I assumed someone figured out the best way to do everything a long time ago and all the other lifters would just repeat those methods. But I guess it makes sense for thier to be some variation since everyone's body is different.

I just want to add that while that the passé (retiré) position is a ballet basic, there are countless countless corrections to apply to it that ballet students and professionals consider!

I would expect dancers to be really good at getting proper form for...anything. There's so much proprioception involved in their discipline that I just expect them to be masters of form. Strength is another matter, but I would still expect a very good body weight to force ratio. I am glad that they respected how much body awareness is required for proper lifting technique.

I found it so interesting that the ballerinas had issues with the squat because I would think they are both strong and flexible, so it was interesting that they needed to turn out so much more in order to hit the correct depth.

Fun to watch. I started powerlifting in my mid 50s and have raised a ballerina so it was fun to watch the combination of these disciplines.

It's so surprising the things the ballet dancers couldn't do that I would've expected they could, like getting down into a full squat or arm positioning for the bench considering how flexible i just assume ballet dancers are.

This was really amazing!! I love this series a lot, and as someone who did ballet for many years I'm always interested to see how ballet dancers fare in other sports. I think they all did amazing, and the power lifters team was so supportive and encouraging!!

Before adding belts or any accessories people should learn the movements without them . Learn how to brace the core without the belt first

Def, I've seen men at the Royal Ballet doing weightlifting a few times a week as part of their training. Heard them say is especially helpful for lifts with female dancers

I am a ballet dancer and thanks to ballet I do great at CrossFit since flexibility is a key for powerlifting and everything else. I feel amazing doing CrossFit wods. So I recommend to everyone go to ballet and then to anything gym like classes

I primarily powerlift, and I think that the powerlifters in the video tried to demonstrate the movements in a way that seemed awkward to me. The guy demonstrating the squat kind of dragged on, and the girl benching didn’t have to make it seem like an arch was necessary.

I'm really surprised to see how the ballet dancers can't keep their bars straight while lifting, I thought that they always had to keep their shoulders and arms really straight and square. Does any ballet dancer can answer and explain if ballet dancers have an "imbalance" between their right and left sides and if it's because of certain poses required in ballet choreographies ? Always jumping with the same arm and leg in front for example could maybe explain this but I'm a fitness, power lifting and ashtanga yoga person and know nothing about ballet. They're still amazing athletes and seeing their flexibility and strength is amazing ! I'm really proud of them because they showed to every macho in our gyms how ballet dancers and dancers in general aren't just fragile and graceful dolls but amazingly strong athletes doing something extremely demanding physically and mentally but still making it look effortless and beautiful. I'm always bothered by the stupid members of my multi sports club (men and women) who always think and speak as if people coming to take the dance and yoga classes aren't real athletes because in their mind their sports look less painful and demanding physically than lifting, cross & co'. I'm gonna take dance classes too and proudly show that I can lift and dance like these power lifters and dancers showed us in this video just to prove them wrong ! (I may have a problem of always wanting more justice and equality so I keep annoying the annoying people 🙄😂).

I use 2 b a ballet dancer as a kid but then i decided later on 2 do martial arts & i still do all types of martial arts up till this day
