Omg finally!!! It’s my one experience with Bournonville. I had a great coach to help transform me into a Danish ballerina from my Bolshoi training and work. The petit allegro and the delicate lower port de bras were a challenge at first but then I learned to become that carefree girl. The music is absolutely beautiful: Strebinger with adaptation by Pauli. It brings tears to my eyes.

The danish style is such a challenge, esp when you come from a Russian trained background; they feel like polar opposites of each other! But both are so beautiful and fun 🤩 Thanks for sharing!

I love the Bournonville I have seen: Napoli, Conservatoire, La Sylphide, Flower Festival, etc. My problem with some of them is that the Firework choreography is mainly either a pas de deux or the end sequence, with a lot of much quieter stuff in the rest. I'm sure it was due to the period in which it was created. Still, it is a beautiful style, and I love the acting; and that the guys get to shine a bit. La Sylphide seems the most balanced, and has a great story. My favorite, however, is Et Folkesagn (A Folk Tale); it just has such great music, characters, and storyline. My other favorite is the finale section of Napoli, with all that Tarentella stuff that just leaves you grinning from ear to ear. The only one I haven't loved too much was Kermesse in Bruges, although it has a beautiful pas de deux sequence. Conservatoire always strikes me as like it must be pretty hard to dance, with all those balances. The Danish training, I think, turns out fine dancers.

Thanks for sharing, we’ve danced the Tarantella in Napoli and it is such a blast. The bournonville style requires a lot of finesse and attention to detail! The result is always so beautiful 🤩

Thank you ladies for another fun and informative video. You have helped me in appreciation for ballet which I did not have when I was younger so again thank you. I sm probably not your typical viewer as a middle aged mom that is an engt. But I always loved music and dance. Keep posting about these sweet ballets. I loved this one, and of course Giselle which I saw recently with the ABT.

What a fine end of the day ! i managed to get back in time for the transmiision. You two lovely ladies telling about August Bournonville his style and the ballet. Being from Copenhagen, I have of course seen the Flower featival several times performed by the Royal Danish Ballet .The company that it was originanlly coreographed for. I find that he made some very fine pieces for the male dancers. Maybe because he was a very good dancer himself. The only thing that would be better would befor you two finally to dance it for us! Both of you!!😅 And i bet that Eden would have to work hard to suppres her giggeling. 🤣

Glad you enjoyed this at the end of your day :) Bournonville ballet has a distinct charm that is so enjoyable to watch and to dance! Definitely would love to take a trip to see the Royal danish ballet someday! As for performing it ourselves for you all… hopefully someday soon 🤭

@@balletreignIt would indeed be a good idea to vist Copenhagen. I would recommend you not only to watch the performance, but as you are so enthusiastic about telleing us about the ballet culture, I would recommend you to ask if you may vist the company and meet some of the dancers back stage and make a video. We Danes have a tradition of being rather wellcoming, and that you already made this fine video and told enthusiastically about the Bournonville style, could help with that. Anyway Copenhagen has a lot of things to offer, and there will be a lot to see and do. There are aloso smaller ballet companies which are worth watching. See you next Saturday. Reply

Oh, thank you! Now I know the story plus all your technical explanations, plus your personal footnotes that make it such fun. Her little head tilt (as opposed to the elegant straighter neck) made her look like she was having a little girlish fun. Also, when she lifted the side of her skirt it told me she was remembering to be a "proper lady" the way girls have always done when we play dress up. This is the sweetest little piece!

At the Boston Ballet Summer Intensive 10+ years ago, I was waiting for my class to start and got to see Jeffrey Cirio do 32 counts of batterie while the ballet teacher held a curtain over his legs - I swear it looked like he was floating the whole time. The teacher did this as a teaching moment for the men in the class, but I’ll never forget it either. His ballon is insane, I feel blessed to have witnessed such sorcery up close 😮

As relatively new to ballett dancing (did more jazz and lyrical, but started taking ballett classes as an adult now) there are a lot of things I don't know by name and I already learned so much by your videos. 😊 The pas de deux is sooo stunning ❤️💐

Love your commentary girls you are funny but a the same time very professional your knowledge in classic ballet is great 👍 fun fact do you know why the Bournonville’s choreography are full of jumps and battery … it’s because in his time the stage of the theater were kind of small so he couldn’t make traveling movements/steps so he came up with that idea of making more jumping choreography instead of travel the stage too much 😊 ciao ciao ❤
