If possible, play Tarantella of NYCBallet/George Ballanchine, danced by Patricia McBride and Edward Villella. Great to compare these two Tarantellas!

This is what I thought you were going to feature, so I was surprised but happy to see Napoli. If you do explore Tarantella, I’d be interested in your thoughts comparing Edward Villela (choreographed on) and Baryshnikov (danced it at the White House). For me, it’s a rare occasion when Baryshnikov’s pure perfection doesn’t match the dance’s exuberance.

Super Saturday evening. Thank you from Copenhagen!! Of course this is the parade piece which is almost always is performed when foreign dignitaries are entertained by our queen. The performers here were all primary dances and most of them have grown up with Bournonville. They are honour bound to pull it of like this. You really should visit Copenhagem and also make the guided tour in The Royal Theatre. That would mean that you would also walk on the stage where this Ballet had its premiere in 1842. If you ask friendly in advance and tell about your work and your youtube activities, you might even be invited to visit the ballet behind the stage and meet the some of dancers and see the training. It is worth the try. The Ballet also performs in the new opera house an there are guided tours there too.

@@balletreign Yes, there are of course many other things to see and do. But you will have a professional interest. I forgot to mention The Court Theater, which is much smaller and situated in Christiansborg Castle. It is closed at he moment due to renovation. I also forgot to tell about Louise Rasmussen, who was a ballerina at the Royal Theater and who ended up at the wife of King Frederik VII. As you see you do have a profession with perspective, Unfortunately you will not have any chance there as our crown prince is already married, and his son will be too young. Any way, it would be a tough call having to choose between the two of you.

Hi! Italian here (though not from any regions that the tarantella is actually from, though I did spend the normal amount of time googling it.) There are actually two versions of the tarantella, the one you described in the video, and also a courtship dance! I think when the actual folk version of tarantella is performed today it is the courtship version, and specifically I believe the courtship tarantella is the Tarantella Napoletana (literally: Tarantella from Naples).

Whenever I need a spirit lift I tune into The Royal Opera House KZfaq channel and watch one of their ballet rehearsals or whatever comes up. Always inspiring and uplifting. Curiously. the bedroom pas de deux from Manon is a favourite happy place. The music is heavenly as are the choreography and dancing. Such an expression of joy, passion and abandon before grim reality sets in. Really, ballet, including your channel, is a happy experience for me.

Other happy Ballet for me is Etudes (Harald Lander - music Czerny/Riisager)) or Symphony in C (Balanchine and Bizet for the music). You’re missing a vital point - the spider bite was metaphorical! The music and dance were a cure for anxiety/depression/generalised hysteria which you can imagine was pretty common in a patriarchal society like southern Italy. The dance was a group effort and might actually go on for days. There’s been a resurgence of interest in traditional tarantella music. Check out the young bands (not touristy ones) who’ve taken the baton from the last of the traditional players. They are incredible!

@@balletreign why, thank you! The Cheshire cat in the story, in particular, has always intrigued me, and I still sometimes hope to catch a glimpse of it although I’m sure it would never become that careless! 😸 I saw The Caterpillar scene from the Royal Ballet in a promotional KZfaq video and just based on that, I bought the DVD right away! In my extremely amateurish opinion, the Alice ballet is a masterpiece. The creation of a ballet from scratch not just including all the choreography, but the music, the costumes, the scenery. It’s almost mind blowing! Then I remember how many of these classic ballets were created 150-200 years ago when they had to write with quill and parchment, had no photocopiers, and only had candlelight and no indoor plumbing!
