I own this stove and the biggest issue is the lack of a heating grate. Basically you have no airflow below your fuel, causing you have to babysit the stove much more than you'd have to with a grate. I bought a grate that fits inside from a third party and now I can just load it and it'll burn for an hour unattended.

@@robpelton - Where did you get your grate? I've been wanting one since I bought my stove. I'd like a titanium grate but steel would work. It needs to be heavy to support almost twice the weight of a normal stoves wood load because it's a TBrick Max.

Wow, gr8 demo on the wood burning stove. The stove is EZ 2 carry & put 2gether, though the chimney was differcult, but after w/ practice, it'll get EZer. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.

The nice thing is once you get a couple burns in on your rolled pipe, it’s way easier to do in the field without having to start at a diagonal. I’ve also found that putting 2-3 rings on at once when you go to put the first ring on makes it easier to slide them up quickly to keep the roll. Good stuff Rob!

I have never seen a more honest review on rolling that XXX stove pipe foe the first time. My first pipe I ruined and had to replace. Second pipe I used piece of plastic pipe, make sure your pipe is smaller than what the stove pipe is. Once I burned the stove for a few hours the pipe now almost rolls itself.

Great review Rob! Now that you have that pipe burned in it's a breeze next time. I like that fold down design! My luxe 3w is pretty difficult to set up after it's all warped. Having the option to backpack in the stove is a game changer! I think you'll be happy with that. ✌️

Burn in both ends by swapping top to bottom. That way it will be really easy to roll the next time. It's pretty easy to roll the stove pipe after that.

Yup those titanium stove pipes that need rolling for the first time are a pain in the (you know what)! After the first time, they roll straight into the chimney form when you roll it out. I purchased one of these after watching your video, and as you say. It is the best bang for your buck. Cheers.

Can't say enough about Danchel Outdoors customer service. I ordered one a few years ago and had a really bad problem with smoke leaking out of the stove. I contacted the company and they immediately refunded me the full purchase price without question. They asked if I'd work with them to identify the problems with the stove - which I was happy to do and they sent me a second similar folding titanium stove at no cost and asked me to use it and let them know what I thought of it. Far exceeded any expectation I had. Obviously, I buy Danchel gear whenever possible. And in my opinion, the pool noodle thing works much better than trying to roll it up without one.

Thanks for this video! This stove looks soooo much better than my seek outside. That stove used threaded rods with wing nuts to hold everything together and just so many issues with the stove pipe collar and spark screen and stove wall warpage. I like the how these have the draft holes in the door so it stays above the ash. You’ll have to clean these out daily no matter what but at least this will provide oxygen for the entire day! As far as the stove pipe initial burn setup here’s what I did: Get a 10’ pvc pipe smaller than the ring diameter and duct tape a couple strips to it at the ends, leave a little hanging out either end so you can pull it off once it’s rolled. Then laying it on the hard flat ground you roll the sheet around the pipe and once it’s rolled you hold it with one hand and place small pieces of duct tape (prepped ahead) along the length of the outer edge. Once it’s taped you can work the rings on some from each end. Once you have the rings evenly spaced you pull off all the tape go burn it in and you’ll never have to worry about it again. Also, before I pack the stove away I usually run a very hot burn and it cleans out most of the creosote buildup and it typically just flakes off the pipe when you roll it up for storage. It’s still a mess. When you go to use the pipe next time it rolls into it burned in position very easy. Don’t worry about wrinkles it’s just how it is and doesn’t hurt the pipe. Always use gloves! Especially when placing the rings.

I used a WD-40 can to slowly roll the titanium pipe and gradually with the help of those steel rings I managed to put the dame pipe together.. It is indeed a tedious process!

I have used one of these stoves a few times. The roll up pipe is a pain, but once it’s burned, it gets a memory and rolls up much better the 2nd go around. It’s a good stove for the $. I ended up gifting these stoves and those who received them love them. Thanks for the support & for watching!

Good quality dedicated wood burners have no grate, as wood burns best on it's own ash. Grates are actually for other types of solid fuel, including coal. Much depends on the species & drynessof the fuel too.

.. Nice designed stove ,, that foldup is awesome .. and wow,, to the light weight .... would look into a telescoping pipe or one of put together sections .... I have a Winnerwell Woodlander stove ,, not lightweight or foldable but is an awesome stove with accessories to add on ,, water tank ,, oven ... great for car camping or using a pulk sled to transport ..... don't forget a fire mat to set it on if in a tent with a floor ,, recommend a fire blanket for behind it also .. ( small welders blanket ) ..

I do have pipe sections and they work well, but don’t pack well. Also, I don’t use a floor in my tents. Too messy. I do have a foldable metal reflectors for behind the stove, but I have a Canvas hot tent that fares better that silpoly or nylon. Thanks for watching!

I bought a Vevor, double wall stove and a grate, the top plate which come off for cooking is a solid aluminum plate and doesn’t warp. The Flue breaks down into 9 sections, and it’s all 304 Stainless steel 3mm plate.

The beauty of a titanium roll up flu pipe, is that when you do get creosote in it just go out to the bonfire and pull it through one piece at a time. That's what I do with my standard stove pipe if it gets too creosoted up, I just take it throw it in the fire. Fish it out later. But it cool off and take it home.

Yeah, I haven't tried to roll and burn my pipe yet, but I think I'm definitely going to try the 2 pool noodles taped together and have a second pair of hands to help roll the whole length all at once.

I bicycle pack and use a trailer with my stove .. it's not foldable and if it was there wouldn't be enough time to put it together in the freezing cold as a cyclists because setup time is critical when your soaked from sweating and yes changing clothing is a option . I consider the calapsable stoves as a three season depending on the cold weather . A little sandpaper on the fixed pipe bevel after you break them down will remove the creosote buildup and stop the pipes from fusing. Never burn waxed fire logs in your stoves because even your spark arrestor will cake up as well as your damper .Stuffing wood in the stove after your first burn , wear gloves because a cold hand doesn't feel the burns immediately until they warm up . This is a very good video, my one comment is as follows. Perhaps a couple of hose clamps might be helpful, I dont know. I have always thought that hot tents were dangerous. I'm comming around though.

I have mastered the art of pipe rolling since this video. Haha. Once the stovepipe is burned, it retains memory and rolls right up. It’s pretty slick. I can see the value of a hose clamp, but as of now, not needed for me at least. These hot tents have their hazards. There’s no denying that, but stay organized and aware, and man are they cool and fun. Thanks for watching!

That stove pipe assembling looks like a huge pain. I probably would blow a gasket. I think putting that stove pipe together at home and burning it in first before hitting the trail looks to be a must do thing. How about an outtakes video of the parts you cut out on this video? Keep in mind that I've only used it for a couple weeks, that being said, so far so good kzfaq.infoUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM . Using it at 8 ft. by 8ft. deer blind that is insulated. I have to keep the door cracked for it to get enough air to burn, but that is very likely the wood I've used. Much better quality than I expected for the price. Now if I can just take it easy in the beginning it won't be 90 degrees in my blind. All in all it seems like a keeper.

Thanks for your Demos! I wonder if you could carry the rolled stovepipe wrapped around a walking stick made from a length of wooden Closet pole, bound with cordage, and sturdy rubber bands. Sounds like a serious challenge dealing with the thin metal in ANY SORT of Breeze.

Rob about ready to lose his shit... one of my favorite things to watch. :-) How significant is the heat retention in steal? Is it worth the weight? Curious of how durable all the little wings for holding it together will be.

I’m also curious on the longevity. We’ll see! The heat retention of steel is much better. Good for keeping your tent warm. Not great for needing the stove to cool off so you can pack up. Dude. I was close to just throwing everything kicking it… Lol

Thanks for the review. How does this compare with the pomoly for 1) burn efficiency (I think rhetorical t-brick has 2ndary burn so theoretically more efficient?) and 2) sealing in the smoke? Thanks!

I do find the roll up pipe to be sufficient once it has been burned. Regarding a dirty pipe, I haven’t had much of an issue. I try to burn good dry wood. So, any buildup is minimal. Thanks for watching!

I tried the pool noddle to roll it up. I asked my wife to come help me out lol. I didn't struggle as much with the two of us but that was 15m after i started cussing at the dam thing lol. . Yha the roll our pipe was such a pain in my but.

Hey Rob where did you get those bags that are individual for the flu and scraper and then the separate smaller one for the stove? The stuff they show on Amazon is that bigger flat Square bag that houses the flu and the stove inside of it all in one. I like the bags you have way better cuz it's easier to pack cuz they're smaller

Hi Charlene! You can purchase a fixed chimney. It comes in several segments. I actually ended up picking one up from Pomoly. It’s so much more convenient to put up, but far less packable. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I have a Tegimen hot tent. The top of the tent is 75 inches high, How high should the chimney extend above the peak of the roof? The titanium stove pipe that came with my stove Pomoly stove is 119 long. With the spark arrestor at the top, it's stands 143 inches tall! How much should I cut off, and what should I do with the piece that I cut off?

Oh wow. That’s a lot of pipe! Haha. I like the chimney to extend at 16”-24” out the top. Bent away from the tent would be best. This will help avoid spark burn holes. Either way, great tent and just start experimenting. You will find what works for ya. Thanks for watching! Cheers.

What a nightmare. I regret ordering one this morning. Maybe I should have watched your video first. That chimney is the reason I held off purchasing one. I prefer the separate sections of pipe. However, it’s hard to beat the light weight. We’ll see how it goes. Wish me luck.

I got a 2nd one and rolled it with more patience. Now, it rolls out and forms easily. Burning creates memory. I did order and use the pipe sections. They are so easy to use, but are not very packable. So, depending on what a trip look like, I’ll make a game time decision. For what it’s worth, I find myself using the rollup pipe a lot more. I found this comment searching for others replacing the titanium sheet with the steel sections. You mentioned you did. Do you have a video on that? How does it fit the damper at the bottom considering that's titanium as well.

Not sure why there is not a collapsable, telescoping (progressively smaller sections that nest into each other for storage) stovepipe option available for these smaller stoves - I believe 2.25" is standard OD for most of these. I have spent way too much time searching! I am actually thinking about trying to design and create one. Maybe there is a business idea there?

... this telescoping design is available at Winnerwell ( at least it used to be) ,, but also pipes in sections that fit together as well as 45 and 90 degree bends ... not sure if size is the same though ..

The Danchel is a great intro stove. I graduated to a Pomoly and is superior. That’s comes with a hefty price tag though.

There’s a guy I follow here on KZfaq that have the exact same stove and he done a review just like u and thought it was a great stove until he used it in his tent. He tried it on to separate overnight trips and it was awful. When it would get hot it would open up and make big gaps in the back and then it was uncontrollable with the drafter in the door. The stone would get too much air and get hot enough to glow red. It was dangerous and he is looking for another stove for saftey reasons. His channel is newfiecountryboy. When he done his first review it was outside like u did and his first impression was the same as yours but it’s proved to be terrible in the tent.

The stainless steel wood stove is supposed to be a titanium stove. I bought one with the damper with the grid and the producer told me that they only produce titanium stoves with the damper with the grid. They have not produced stainless steel stoves with grid version.

There’s a distinct difference between titanium & stainless. The stove I have with the grid, is indeed stainless. I can’t comment on wether it’s still available or not. Thanks for watching!

@rob pelton I got it. I have a titanium one and I got a supposed "titanium" it was a gift. I definitely can see the difference between them but the producer told me that this is a titanium and the material sometimes looks different Due to different batches of production/restocking materials, there will be some color difference. This is what they told me: the damper with the grid must be a titanium stove. We have not produced stainless steel stoves with grid version.

That is one cool and nice stove the way it folds up, but that pipe would be a bitch!!!! I thought you were about to go IB TAT on its ass and either throw it in the pond and drop quite a few F-Bombs along the way. That would be a cool video to see. Oh yeah where was the frying pan with the Bacon. This review is incomplete without that!! Time to hit the trail again soon!!!!

Looking at these from a purely design- and materials-cost standpoint, these stoves are WAY overpriced. Too bad the market for them is relatively limited. If only there were more of a market for them, someone could profit from selling them at well less than half the cost.
