RJ...The whole reason I took two years of electronic engineering technology full time was so I could get into this field...I was building different types of circuits on bread boards(Clock circuits,Game design circuits, etc) Of course it never worked out upon graduation(And this was back in the video heyday from 1988-1990) because basically I was told "We won't hire ya without experience" ..Well that's fine, but how do you get experience WITHOUT a job? I went into the telecom field and now I am a TC engineer. LOL The excitement and desire is still there from childhood...I'd love to get back into this field but so much has changed...We were working on BETAS and VCR's back in that time,HIgh Def Screens were a pipe dream, and fiber optics was just being introduced...All I need to know is if I move my butt on down to the Carolinas, find your business, and come to you with a resume' great desire, attitude, and willingness to learn any and everything you could throw at me...Am I hired??? ROFL...Don't laugh too hard RJ...That hurts harder than a Xformer that blows up in your face when you get the primary and secondary voltage hookups backwards....Very bad day in class that day...DON"T ask how .:)

Seriously RJ a GREAT service you're doing to guys like me that can experience these repairs THROUGH your eyes and hands all alongside a spectacular explanation that shows that you are the MAN and have a extreme wealth of knowledge cooking up there in that brain and I am finding myself watching more and more of your vids just to see what kind of problems and how extreme they can get...I've seen it can be very frustrating sometimes, but damn it's still FUN!!

Seems like every time I encounter a Spy Hunter machine, the sound is out on it, which is a shame...the machine had awesome sound back in the day! Kind of fun to relive the game with Mame.

Go into the test mode and check out all the sound tests like it mentions in the manual, it could be one of your channels is gone out and it needs the operational amplfier replaced on the super sounds in out board. You can download a manual on www.KLOV.com

Read the Bally bulletin on in regards to the cheep squeak deluxe on a reliability modification in regards 7533 DAC failures there is a 47uF capacitor at (c112) thats removed to prevent an issue that sometimes leads to the destruction of the 7533 DAC when the game is shut off its talked about here. www.pinrepair.com/6803/6803removecap.pdf

That "Cheap Squeak Deluxe" board is seriously over engineered. I mean seriously. You need a dedicated 68k processor just to play that short clip of Peter Gun that still sound like a cheesy MIDI file. For the amount of computing power on that board. I would expect it to be doing a whole lot more then just that. That's just silly.

I think you're unfamiliar with board design from 1983.... and the board wasn't designed just for Spy Hunter, it was designed by Bally to be able to work in many machines, including pinball machines playing different music and sound effects. You can't look at things designed in 1983 and say they didn't know what they were doing, it worked great at the time for what it was.

@@LyonsArcade That make sense to build a single board to be used in multiple systems to avoid having to design a board for every machine out there. Another thing that just discovered about the 68k CPU right after you replied was that Motorola sold underclocked( CPU's that where rejected because they could not clock at higher speeds.) versions of the 68k in large quantities for as little as $20 a piece. Because of that, it now make sense as to why they used a 68k CPU in that board. Before that, I was assuming that they where using normal 68k CPU used in a full blowen computer system, which at the time costed over $300 a piece.

The reason why the century video game called: "Time Pilot" was my favorite video game is that it showed me flying machines that were supposed to be invented back in 2001. That's the flying saucer jets: is what we were supposed to invent. 🪰 🪁 🦟 💸 🕊 🐛 🪰
