With father and uncle who were connoisseurs of Western music, I grew up along with this song and it always touches a deep chord within my soul. This particular performance is a wonderful experience of going back in the time machine. Did you notice how he carried the audience along with him and made the singers, male and female audience sing along with him. Harry Belafonte, you are an all time great. Hats off to you.

We will never be able to have Entertainer like Harry Belafonte no more. There is nothing like him!
@Sasha19399 жыл бұрын
I remember seeing him in Portland, Oregon in early 60's. He walked on stage, wearing a bright red shirt, open about 3 buttons and tight blue jeans. He walked to center stage, leaned on one hip, arms crossed and just stood there. Didn't need to say a word. The audience was on its feet, screaming and applauding for somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes. One of the greatest concerts I had seen up to that time. He was pure magic. I never saw an entertainer with that kind of magnetism until I saw Roberto Carlos of Brazil in 2012. Men like Belafonte only come along once in three or four generations. I still stop and listen when he speaks for civil rights.

What an amazing legacy this man will be leaving us all! He had the insight to try performing island songs in the mainland of the U.S. and was rewarded with a major career. He had the sense of justice to work for good causes and to give lots of his acquired wealth to charities. "Blessed are those who seek justice. They will be satisfied."
