Baltimore bridge collapse: BBC News Review

The search for six people missing after a bridge in the US collapsed has been suspended. The accident happened when a ship hit a support column of the Francis Scott Key bridge in the city of Baltimore. There are fears the collapse could lead to a significant disruption to the world’s supply chains. Investigators are now trying to understand what went wrong.

From what is known so far, it seems that this port is less oriented and signposted than the parking lot of a shopping mall or supermarket. Don't have signal buoys? Although they are hampered at night by city lights. Are there no navigation charts with a channel or route to be taken?

Similar to the Suez Canal, Baltimore also requires local specialists to navigate the ship till it reaches its destination. The ship that struck the Baltimore Bridge was commanded by two white American captains! Despite a technological malfunction, the Indian crew on board sent out an SOS signal that ultimately saved thousands of lives.
