Bambino crayons have been produced for 70 years by the St. Majewski. The company was established much earlier, in 1889 in Pruszków on the initiative of engineer Stanisław Jan Majewski as a pencil factory - the first and only one in the Kingdom of Poland. #factory #bambino #crayons
00:00 How crayons are made.
So we're going on a trip to the manufacturing facility.
00:55 First, the graphic shop prepares a mass for the production of a rod from kaolin clay, pigment and water. Everything is mixed thoroughly. Under the influence of high temperature, the water evaporates. One mixing machine gives us half a ton of mass - enough crayons would be enough so that if we used one a day, it would take as much as 180 years!
The mass is now transferred to the vacuum chamber of the hydraulic press. Rods with a specific diameter and length are pressed at the rate of 1500 pieces per minute through a nozzle of a suitable diameter.
The still soft stamens are placed in special cauldrons, which are driven into the furnace on trolleys. They dry at 120 degrees Celsius, gaining adequate hardness and straightening when the cauldron is turned.
Now the stamens are pulled out of the drying pots. The fragments are removed. Then they are impregnated: they are saturated with fat at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius. Thanks to this treatment, kaolin particles will detach from the rod, allowing you to draw.
02:25 Crayon factory: in the assembly department.
Here, grooves are milled in boards made of certified linden wood from Polish forests. It is a machine process performed on a twin-spindle milling machine with a speed of 160 pieces per minute. What for? Rods will be placed in the grooves.
Here we see what it looks like. Grooved boards and sticks go to the line. The automat places one rod in each groove. Then the second glue board is attached. A so-called sandwich is produced. In order to permanently connect the two parts, they go to the press.
03:09 Milling
And then onto the feeders of the milling machine. Single crayons of a specific length and shape are obtained. Depending on the shape of the tool, we can obtain them in a round, triangular or hexagonal cross-section. About 2.5 million crayons are produced in this way each month.
03:34 Sanding crayons. How it's done?
Time for grinding, i.e. removing the roughness and roughness created during milling from the surface of the crayons. The crayons are varnished in the finishing shop. Three coats are applied to their surface.
Now a machine called a stamping machine embosses a factory mark on the surface and a different one
removes dirt from the forehead of the crayon and makes curls on one side and the blades on the other - here it is called pointing
04:30 Packing department. Production facility.
We are still looking at the packaging department. Wooden Bambino crayons are produced in 26 colors and, depending on the assortment, packed in appropriate sets.
