Triple Face Off / Comparison! These are three of the MOST popular corexy 3D printers on the market! The Bambu Lab P1S, the Creality K1 and the QIDI-Tech X-Plus 3. We put them head-to-head with a large practical 3d print and compare the results.
I think you'll be surprised at how well each of these printers did and what my opinion is on each of them!
The Bambu Lab P1S is essentially a Bambu Lab P1P w/ an enclosure, is fast, reliable and printers near perfection. The Creality K1 is a MONSTER, it is heavy, rugged and very reliable, quite impressed. The QIDI-Tech X-Plus 3 is likely the most interesting of the three, it prints so well, and IT IS FAST, WAY FAST!
We'll be doing a deep dive into each of these fast corexy 3d printers over the next couple of weeks, so make sure you are subscribed to see the results.
Each of these machines are enclosed, heavy and have input-shaping to maximize speed, accuracy, improve print quality and reduce print artifacts. Each of them are capable of printing PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, Nylons, Polycarbonates, Carbon Fiber & Glass filled filaments and more.
Thank you Bambu Lab, Creality and QIDI-Tech for sending the P1S, the K1 and the X-Plus 3 to us for us to highlight and share with our community.

its nice to have a printer that can get out the box and print perfectly in 30 mins but half the fun is tinkering with your printer like all the ender 3 upgrades or full building a voron. I have a P1P(Soon to be P1S) but im probably going to build a Voron 0.2 then build a V2.4 or Trident so i can make it "mine"

I'm in the same boat, and actually the reason I'm not buying a Creality printer again. Mainly because they had basically let the community fix ALL the issues with their printers in the early days of the CR-10/Ender 3 (and maybe even today, don't keep track of them that much anymore). Just not interested in a company with that sort of mindset, so I'm probably gonna just pick up a Bambu printer. Plus they provide spare parts at a really good price.

I like the short and sweet comparison. Also, printing something practical is a great idea. However, like other commenters, for the comparison to be fair, use the same filament in all 3. Maybe one with PLA & one with PETG.
@LoyalMoses
@LoyalMoses Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was very fair, it was the average experience any buyer would have. Turned it on, loaded PLA, sliced up a model on the preferred slicer and hit print. Changing filament isn’t going to magically turn a bad printer into an amazing printer.
@oleurgast730
@oleurgast730 Жыл бұрын
@@LoyalMoses Actually, PLA is not realy the main material for enclosured printers. In my opinion, while the main advantance of bambulab is the AMS, the main advantage of the Qidi is the activly heated chamber. So I would realy like a comparision how the funnel turns out printed in a more technical filament, like maybe polycarbonate or nylon. Maybe even in winter - I had some very hard issues with bending even using PET-G in a passive enclosure last winter (for me its warm enough if water is liquid. My printers see it otherwise). This actually the main reason I choose the Qidi, as the activly heated chamber is the outstanding feature. While I definitly like the AMS bambu made - how often do I realy need colour change? Maybe for soluble support (or the PLA/PETG-Trick). But I have an Idex I only used 2 or 3 times over the last years to do so, so for me the heated chamber is definitly the big advantage of the Qidi and kicks bambu an Creality out of the competition. But it realy depends what you need. Also of course as the Qidi uses open Klipper, an ERCF might be possible to add... So while the AMS has best comfort and definitly is exelent, it does not mean you can't do multi material on a Qidi.

And the only problems I had was plugged nozzle once, and then the other thing that's great is the printer will warn you if anything seems off. It even saved me from wrecking the bad cable as it warned me there was tension on the cable, so when I checked I found one yellow wire fell off its mount and was getting caught up a lil bit and eventually would have been ripped off. I don't know why you would use a different filament for the p1s using a color that will barely show off any imperfections. A lot of other creators do this as well. They will compare the p1s or p1p to another brand/model and use a very unforgiving color like black or grey with the model that the bambu lab is going up against, and use a very bright neonish color when using the bambu labs. Gives off the impression of bias when that happens, even though you may not have intended it.

You think filament makes that much of a difference to the quality of the machine? Then why so many issues with Ender 3s out there? They could just change filament and the printer would print perfect, no? That is what you are saying though, that the filament makes the print, not the printer.

Lighting wasn’t the best, it was far worse than I thought it looked while recording, but this wasn’t a scientific comparison, it was a user experience and result comparison. Even if I used the same filament, it was done in their preferred slicer with their default profiles, which ultimately has a greater impact on result than the brand of PLA used. We’ll have to do another one, with better lighting and we can use the same color for the third one.

I haven't decided between Creality and Bambulab yet. Based on my research so far, Bambulab produces cleaner prints, but it uses parts that are not easily replaceable, such as the carbon X-axis tubes. In my experience, carbon has a significantly shorter lifespan compared to Creality's steel rods (although steel is heavier, resulting in more inertia and less precise movements). So, if the machine loses precision due to this wear and tear component after a year and becomes worse than the Creality, I'd prefer to go directly with a Creality since I don't plan on changing printers every year (I do a lot of printing). On the other hand, I've come across many consumer reports about quality control issues from Creality factories (motherboards with the wrong firmware, uneven bed surfaces, etc.). However, I still lean towards getting a K1 because it's open-source, and I'm not particularly concerned about achieving a perfect surface finish. I have a CNC machine for fabricating parts once the design and testing phases are complete through 3D printing. In my opinion, it's better to have several issues that can be solved more or less easily than a potential unsolvable problem like play in the X-axis. Even if replacement carbon tubes with sufficient manufacturing quality can be found, I doubt that the connection of the carbon tubes is held together with a simple screw; they are probably glued with resin. I can't imagine using a saw to cut and then trying to realign the carbon axes correctly before gluing them.

This was an experience comparison, that 99% of users would have. A sliced model in their own slicers, with their own default profiles, and sent to the printers. I agree the orange was a little washed out on camera, but that doesn’t change the result, in this particular comparison, the P1S print was nearly perfect, the others had surface patterns from poor cooling and also loose belts, which I’ve since tightened and things appear a little cleaner. We can always do another one with the same filament for filming purposes.

I would like to see orange filament run in others or Bambu labs with black filament just so all things remain same for the tests. Great review, but I am interested to see with same exact filaments on all machines. Perhaps, run orange on two other machines and black on Bambu labs. I would also run all three at max speed of 500, keep speed same. This would be ultimate test. Very impressed with results from all companies.

@@LoyalMoses I was disappointed that there was no way to compare the finishes. We have an X1 carbon at my company. My experience has not been as good as yours. I don't think the finish quality is much different than my old CR-10 (although it is printed much faster). There are Z banding artifacts. And pressure advance must not be working because it has the worst bulging at corners I have seen from my limited printing experience. It is giving 2 or 3 error codes at the beginning of every print after it does its calibration. Maybe this has something to do with the poor pressure advance. I have not had time to fix the error codes. Also, Bambu sizing the AMS so none of my spools of filament fit is really really really annoying. I don't know what game they were playing when they did this. I don't trust the K1 as what I have seen shows it as an unfinished design. These machines may end up in shops or garages or home officers where the people that are using them don't care about layer heights or infill, etc. For this particular comparison, it was very simple -- the experience that 99% of customers would have. Load whatever filament they have on hand, select the default profile in the slicer and hit the print button. The basic experience of three turn-key corexy 3D printers and the results were the focus here. Those of us with dozens of printers and literal tons of filament care about those details, and we are absolutely working on more exhaustive content focusing on the specifics. Thank you for your input!

I made a comment about a better price comparison with the P1S Combo and the big brothers of the other 2 without watching this. I think I'm already convincing myself to get a P1S Combo just because of the fun factor involved and, of course, quality. I thought I need a bigger volume for what I want to print but I don't think I will need the volume often. If ever (if my wife allows), I'll just get a cheaper large bedslinger as a 2nd machine for bigger prints. BTW, forgot you own a ranch. I may ask suggestions to print for my cousin who owns a farm with mini horses, donkeys and chickens.

I dont get the filament argument. Bambu printers are going to work best with bambu filament, creality and qidi will work better with certain filaments. Im interested in the best that each can print (with out of the box settings), not which printer is more accurate if you feed non-ideal filament through it. Sounds like a bunch of people upset they dont have a bambu tbh.

I've had several creality printers and they have been nothing but trouble. If I was going to buy a bamboo Labs it would have to be the X1 Carbon. I just bought a Qidi X-Plus 3. It is the most amazing 3D printer out of the box I have ever used. I just could not justify the X1 Carbon on my budget. But if I had the cash I probably would have went that way. The Qidi tuning is SO spot-on from the factory. Even things like extruder steps. I let out one whole M of filament. It was within three hundreds of a gram of being correct. There is no question this printer is fast and accurate. The one warning I have (and I have experienced this with every printer we've ever purchased) is that it does not flow anywhere near what they say. It is an honest 20mm'3/s hot end.

Can someone please explain what is this madness of purchasing a full enclosure and printing with the doors open? I heard that all 3 printers have problem printing PLA unless the door is open. Is that true? Speed is nice but it would be nice to get filtered the microplastic since we are paying for the enclosure. I still cannot decide between K1 and P1S. The biggest deal breaker for the K1 is the bloatware they have for a slicer and GUI.
@LoyalMoses
@LoyalMoses 10 ай бұрын
It's not madness but rather actually very simple. PLA has a relatively low glass transition temperature compared to other filaments and the heat from the heat block can creep up through the heat break into the cold zone of the hotend if the printing environment is too warm. When filament heats up in the cold zone (where it shouldn't be), the filament swells and becomes soft and is unable to be fed through to the nozzle. Enclosures trap heat, and even if only a few degrees warmer, it can be enough to contribute to heat creep and ultimately a filament jam. Even with the more expensive Raise3D printers in my studio, they also have removable tops and even a hood that lifts to allow excess heat to escape when printing with PLA. Now, the next question is almost always "why can't they just add ventilation to cool the enclosure?" -- well, the issue there is that you still need the build plate to be warm but without drafts cooling the part unevenly or prematurely. So, the solution is to simply open the door or remove the lid. I hope that helped!

Haven't used Cura lately but small things like when I did prints of miniatures or figurines the slender parts like the ankles would always be 2 wall and infill (so p*ss weak) and would always break. Bambu Studio does it solid at thinner parts automatically. Before I liked Cura because they had the tree supports first, not Prusa and it's variants all have it and found I had to mess with less though that might have to do with me owning the P1S which really doesn't require any tinkering to get good results. Where my brother lives, is so dry I swear if I want to dry my filament I would just take it out of the bag up there. A good example of this is air compressors. There is a bolt in the bottom of em they tell you to take out to remove water. Well if you live in a high humid area like Florida, you take bolt out, and you will have a ton of water come out. Live even where I live and barely anything. Where my brother lives, their Air compressor after 5 years was not a drop. So local humidity absolutely plays in.

The QIDI has cooling artifacts, that the Bambu didn’t have - I’m a realist, love all the machines, no bias here, just showing what the prints looked like. The Bambu did produce the best results. We are planning a deeper dive into each machine, that will be fun to do and see results from.

Its really not apples to apples when you compare different color filaments. Of course its harder to see surface defects in a matte orange filament than a black one.

thank you for the video, the bambu lab is great but they never respond to any questions. I have actually emailed them several times with a question few weeks ago and still no response. I am just testing the CS response time and they have failed. I want to buy the Carbon so bad this lack of response is killing my motivation

Should have printed them all using the exact same roll of filament. Changing colours 2/3 the way in is a flawed way of doing it.

this its a kind of unfair test . The only way you can fairly test is to use the same filament from the same roll for all printers filaments arent created equal even from the same manufacturer. hence the reason the k1 and xplus3 llook the same. Also flaws are easier to see on dark plastics. Also everything ahould be printed on the same speed and temps. Qidi themselves say 400mm is optimum so if you want a perfect print... dont print at 600. Besides the settings on qidi machines are using using their own filament which is made for the qidi optimum settinga. Print them all with filament from the same roll, and print at 400.

If you watched and listened, this was not a scientific test... this was a comparison of what the average user would experience using the printer, with the filament that was loaded in the machines. First time and beginner buyers aren't interested in a bunch of nerdy geeky pseudo-scientific tests, they want to know what happens when you throw a model in the printer with the default slicer settings and what comes out.

What about P1S with AMS vs Prusa MK4 with MMU3S and Input shaping firmware? I hear the MMU3 changes a lot quicker for colour changes than the AMS

That’s about $1000 USD. For that, I’d consider the Bambu P1S w/ AMS for multicolor printing or the QIDI X-Max 3 for a helmet class (> 300mm) printer.

@@LoyalMoses i hope that wasn't rude but it's worth just using the same filaments for all, the issue is that some filaments can look perfect and like SLA on my printer, and some filaments show flaws a lot, for me orange hides all the defects and black shows them more!
