This is a consolidation on many "add text" to objects from past videos. Let's start the new year right by going over your most commonly asked questions. There is also some new stuff I have never shown yet.

Great video. On the vertical Text you can split the individual letters into Objects first, then assemble the 2 parts of the i and rotate it as a single object, then either rotate each remaining letter individually or re-assemble the remaining letters and split them back to parts and then rotate them as a group. Would have been easier if parts could be assembled like objects.

Great video - running through all options of text added in the slicer. Again there were small tips that I did not know or tested, so learned again something (like that you can move up the cube above the text). And I love that you at the end print all parts and show them to showcase how they look in real. (This time blue gloves ;-) - I was fine with the white one ... ) Thank you for sharing.

Another great, informative video. I’m not sure I completely understand what “assemble” does. I think I understand that mesh boolean takes several parts and makes them one single part…but I don’t completely understand what assemble does. Thanks!
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 6 ай бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching and reaching out. Great question. The *Assemble* function just joins 2 or more items into a *model* with those parts. That's why I can manipulate those parts even after an assemble. 4:42 Also if separate models/parts are touching/overlapping without assemble/mesh you will get an error when slicing. *Mesh Boolean* can combine 2 or more items in a single part. It's locking in the combination but it wipes out the manipulating individual pieces. 16:50 So I would not be able to change those individual letters when they are meshed together.

Great video and channel. I'm new to using my Bambu X1C and Bambu studio so this was very informative! So happy to find out I don't have to incorporate other software like Tinkercad to create text and such. One question, can you rotate text around a point on a flat surface - like on a poker chip?
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 6 ай бұрын
Hey hey thank you very much for watching and asking. I am trying to see how much we can accomplish with in the slicer and there are far more tools at our disposal. after doing the steps. here 18:30 or 24:33 So you can rotate text with the rotate tool. (R key) then use the Z arrows to rotate. It will rotate from a central point. So wherever you place it the "center" is the pivot/rotate point. So think of the center as the center of the sphere or torus.

Outstanding video! I appreciate the tutorials on using text in Bambu Studio. Thanks for taking the time to show us what is possible and how to do it. Do you have any idea why some fonts show up in the font list and others don’t? Wingdings and other dingbat fonts don’t show up on my Windows version of Bambu Studio and I would really like to be able to use them as design elements.

So I, incorrectly, assumed ALL installed fonts work in studio. I haven't found an easy answer on why some fonts show up and others do not. There are some fonts I found online that work fine and others that dont. Some will show in studio as selectable, but not reflect the correct font. It didnt matter if it were ttf or otf, installed in windows or placed in the bambu program font folder. I gave up on a solution months ago when even fonts from the same source(website) worked while others did not. I know it's not a great answer *BUT* there is a solution. *Orca Slicer* seems to use all of the fonts I have tested that bambu studio could not. It's close enough in functionality to Bambu studio,with some added features, to where there isnt a learning curve. I hope that helps. Thanks for the question and postivie feedback.

@@ashleys3dprintshop That is a helpful answer. I wondered what happened to all the other installed Windows fonts that were not showing up either. It looks I’ll have to install the Orca Slicer and give it a try. Up to this point Bambu Studio has met all my needs. Thanks for the prompt response!

Hi Ashley, really useful video - been trying to do the circular (flat) text for ages. Since i updated my slicer (i'm using Orca slicer) the text tool _seems_ a bit more advanced but its lost the horizontal option - is there a way to recreate the flat circular text post update?
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 2 ай бұрын
Hello. Orca has a bunch more tools for text, as you know. Orca actually pulls more from Prusa slicer than Bambu studio for text so how the curved text on surface changed up a bit. The "horizontal" option is nonexistent All is not lost if you don't mind using another way. Obviously this way that is shown with Bambu studio. You can export it out as an STL. Place them individually (not ideal) Roll back to an earlier version of Orca Slicer. You can use maker world, with limited font types. and export it and import into Orca. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7SRebOnnpmWh3U.html

Hey! I love your videos! My husband recently bought me the Bambu Lab A1 and I’m having so much from with it. However, the past few prints the filament it coming out extremely clumpy. @ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 6 ай бұрын
Hello, that is an amazing gift. Welcome to the community. Typically if I see abnormal filament extruding I check for clogs which it appears you have already done. You will always get the same advice for filament(dry it out, check for filament crimps, clean the nozzle, make sure the silicone sock on there properly) To fully test that theory I would run a different filament to see if it continues to clump. The A1 printer have a quick swap nozzle so you could put in a new nozzle to test. Also with that nozzle removed you can warm it up with a hair dryer and shove in a bit of filament. Be careful as it will be hot. (use oven mitts or bbq gloves) let it cool down and yank it with the strength of Hercules to see if there is anything in there. Alternatively you can get acupuncture needles and to push through or catch any globs. Can I ask what kind of filament brand/type you have been using?

I am currently using the latest bambu studio 1.8.4 but I have been using the same settings since Aug 2022. Orca slicer has forked a bit with its settings adopting more prusa like naming convention. In Orca slicer the latest version is 1.9 where it is just called depth now. You may need to use the move tool specifically on the text to embed it.

Any suggestions on good font choices for smaller text? I'm trying to add small text to the Bambu color swatches that are 24x24mm with 4mm text and its very challenging to get legible flush text with a 0.4 nozzle. I'm trying to avoid a 0.2mm nozzle as it can't print some filaments. Here's a challenge for a video. Add 4 lines of text to a standard size Bambu A1 color swatch (24x24x2mm). Either colored flush or debossed. I'm thinking of trying to print it standing on edge, with brim if needed to see if quality improves.
@ashleys3dprintshop
@ashleys3dprintshop 4 ай бұрын
So sorry about the late reply. Line width should be what you are looking for. I actually tested exactly what you were looking for. 24x24x2 with 4mm text using a .4mm nozzle. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gZxdpMuJl7mYeY0.html I would use .3 line width for the text/top surface. Or you can make the entire thing .3mm. I did not have it print on edge as it would make for many filament changes and take more time.

Hello, great question. So it has an odd answer. Bambu studio will pull most(not all) installed fonts into the slicer. But it does not display that font at all. It defaults to a generic font when selected. Orca slicer can see and use more fonts but that Absalom typeface does not show up in that one either. 😕

@@NikkiSebastian Hello, There could be a few reasons. But before I go into potential troubleshooting are you seeing "seams"in the slice section? Go to slice, uncheck seams. They dont affect the model on or off but it makes it look like the model has white spots in areas where the print head stops to go to the next layer. If you are running into actual parts of the curve missing 1 the text may need to penetrate more into the model. Alternatively you can create curved text and export it out from makerworld's maker lab. the biggest issue there is a limited number of fonts available but it is very simple to create curved text there and export it as an STL. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7SRebOnnpmWh3U.html If you are running into any issues feel free to message.
