I use the AMS on my X1 Carbon. Since I print functional parts, not decorative items, my filament changes are for automatic filament runout, coloured labels, and material type changes. As a result my filament changes are quite few on a per object basis and therefore I have very little waste. Having said that, the AMS has been extremely useful for these functions. My X1 Carbon and Ender 3V2 have been running pretty much 24 hrs a day for the past 6 months and I have found the X1C with AMS to be extremely reliable allowing me more time to work on other jobs. My biggest complaint for the AMS is the inability to handle flexible materials like Polypropylene, TPU and TPE. Being able to switch out these materials would make the system much better. Second biggest complaint is the compatibility of spools. Several brands of the filament spools I use will not fit in the AMS. I have to re-spool the filament, which is a pain but worth the effort for the flexibility the AMS provides. I have had some issues with wet PLA 3D850 filament, which gets brittle, and breaks inside the AMS necessitating a tear down of the AMS to remove the broken filament.

@@MyTechFunCan this P1P print CF-NYLON filaments?

Could have reduced lot of filament waste and time,by simply orienting with the back down on build plate, with supports enabled(and using a dissolvable/breakaway support). The idea is, keeping the number of colors to minimum, as you move from one layer to the next. Additionally, the nose and the feet could have been printed separately, and attached later with super glue. That would eliminate all the purging due to the least used color. The trade-off is a little bit of surface roughness and gluing parts after print. Just some 💭

with this much waste they should make a filament extruder so you can recycle the waste and make filament

thanks for your review. I bought the x1c and im pretty happy with it beside some small software things in the slicer and the printer (e.g. filament change) i bought it without AMS because the waste is too much... i hope they can fix it. Maybe bigger prints just use the purge tower for infill or reduce it by new hardware. We will see....

whats the reason for both a poop shoot and purge tower? why not just one
@kylelongstaff
@kylelongstaff Жыл бұрын
I hope that they come up with a solution for the waste. On large parts you can use the infill as purge tower but for small parts this may not be enough so it will need some careful consideration and smart people to solve the issue.
@craighoward4531
@craighoward4531 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering if increasing the infill % would reduce the purge poop and purge tower? You still use more plastic, but it’s not “wasted” as it would increase the strength of the part.

you can Purged into the infill to cut down on the waste

I hate the AMS on the x1 carbon we have at the office. In addition to the issues mentioned most filament comes on larger spools and it makes no sense to rewind filament on the clock. Even spools that fit don't work with a full 1kg load. It has also never successfully changed spools when one runs out. I agree 100%, IDEX would make much more sense. For that matter it would likely be easier from an engineering and production standpoint and you could still offer an AMS in addition. (It would of course make the machine larger and a bit more expensive but cheaper and smaller than the AMS combo) This is a very slow, very fast printer :)

Orca Slicer and I assume Bambu Slicer have an option to print the waste as support and infill for the print. I'd like to see that option enabled and in action.

This is probably a silly question, but if you have an AMS and want to print with a single color, do you still feed the spool through the AMS? In that case, I assume that there would be no difference in terms of how long it takes for the print complete, am I correct?

Cool Printer !! And very good print!! Thats pinguin looks amazing ...but (yeah ,there always a but), that filaments purge are a lot !! Of waist material so the printing cost was not good...unless yuo find the right client to sell them , anyway , nice printer

Interesting, I noticed that I did not receive ANY empty spools with my AMS, which is very disappointing as they are both very expensive and also out of stock at Bambu. (I purchased the X1C AMS combo)

I can see, they are included with AMS: eu.store.bambulab.com/en-hu/products/ams-multicolor-printing (in the box part)

You're right - the AMS which is included in the X1C AMS combo doesn't come with the empty spools. Those will be included only ff you buy the AMS separately. I was positively surprised about that as I bought a second AMS which I just received.

Thank you so much for this video. I liked and subscribed. I had a question, which printer would you recommend if I’m mass producing small decorative (3-4) color small figurines when speed, accuracy, and reliability is needed?
@MyTechFun
@MyTechFun Жыл бұрын
A lot of waste material with AMS, but with mass production you can fill the bed with figurines, less waste in %. AMS is one of the most reliable color changing system.

It arrived with P1P, PLA matte in white color. BTW, soon Bambulab will have regular PETG too (not CF), and they will send filaments to me to compare PLA basic, tough, PETG, ABS. It will be an interesting comparison..

Inserting the filament is not time consuming, the testing is much slower. And pity that TPU or CF filaments cannot be used with AMS.

First we should know how much the printer affects strength. Also I think the materials need to print at same temperature and in sequence to avoid constant filament change :)

Did you try to compare monochrome printing time vs multicolor time? That would be interesting? Or did I miss it?
@MyTechFun
@MyTechFun 11 ай бұрын
BambuStudio gives you very accurate estimated time. But if only 2 colors, just add 1,5 minutes for each layer. Now imagine, for smaller parts, layer will be printed in 4-5 seconds, then 90 seconds color change.

Nice video, but about printing more than one object - as I saw Mihai (IG and here in youtube) video, that there is not yet "cancel single object" thingy... so if you have full bed of penguins and one fails, this causes more problems to others and so on... chaos theory applied :D

can the Bambu Lab P1P print TPU filaments.? I'm thinking of either getting a P1P or the Prusa Mini+, and also is the Bambu Lab AMS compatible with other 3D printers like a Prusa Mini+ , the Fokoos Odin-5 F3 and or a Kingroon printer.?

Algorithm could be optimized for 2 color printing - let's say you print a an ellipsoid: () with split red/blue color, normal printing would be: layer 1 RED: ( change BLUE: ) layer 2: RED: ( change BLUE: ) ... Optimized would be layer 1 RED: ( change BLUE: ) layer 2 BLUE: ) change RED: ( layer 3 RED: (

For 1 kg of filament on one object, 4kg of material is wasted… Let’s wait for a different or modern way of making a multi filament 3d printer
@MyTechFun
@MyTechFun Жыл бұрын
If you spend 1kg on an object, probably it is big and you are using more of X and Y direction, then the waste % is much smaller.. That was the point of those charts in my video, I tried to explain this.
