------about Us-----
Words:MIKU KOBATO
Music & Arrangement:BAND-MAID
English translator of Japanese lyrics: S. R. Wallis
I wonder how they’re all doing now.
A vision in my dreams,
It makes me feel nostalgic.
Even if you are far away
My heart will always be with you.
Even when we’re apart.
Drowning in thoughts of the uncertain tomorrow,
I can’t do anything; so faint-hearted.
Just wanting, just only
Longing for the everyday.
The days pass by in a haze
Cast over this vast world.
Yet we live on.
It’s alright! See, I'm here.
Neither of us is alone.
Cries…
I did. Good old days, Ooh...
‘I’m back home!’
‘Just a moment!’
Whatever happens,
Don't feel the distance.
Recalling those times,
It makes me feel nostalgic.
Even now,
Accept someone for who they are.
In the days we can’t meet
My silent cries well up inside me, but I can’t move;
There’s no release for my troubled heart.
I just implore you, just only
Don't feel forlorn.
The flowers will bloom and be reborn
Into this Unseen World,
Into the new dawn.
It’s alright! See, I'm here.
Neither of us is alone.
Cries... ...
I did. Good old days, Ooh...
‘Welcome back home’
‘See you later’
In my corner of the world, I dream my dreams.
Flow
Believe me-
I will light up your life with my voice.
It can’t be helped,
There will be,
Again, and once more,
For certain, there will be
Meetings and farewells, and
Each time sorrow will rend our hearts.
Don’t dwell on the meaning.
I'm here, cherishing the memories reaching out from that time.
(Yeah, we won't forget this day-an engraving of our love)
Even in the days we can't meet,
We still grow together.
These feelings that never change, wrap them carefully and
Just forwards, just forwards, onwards.
Take my hand, and
Let us brighten the gloom with our smiles.
Let's build a future
In this emerald world.
It’s alright! See, we are all here.
No one is alone.
Fly more...
I did. Good old days, Ooh...
‘Thank you’
For now and tomorrow.
------about Us-----
Words:MIKU KOBATO
Music & Arrangement:BAND-MAID
I wonder how they’re doing now.
It makes me feel nostalgic.
My heart will always be with you.
Cries...
I did. Good old days, Ooh...
Whatever happens,
Don't feel the distance.
It makes me feel nostalgic.
Accept someone for who they are.
Cries...
I did. Good old days, Ooh...
Flow
信じて
I will light your life up with my voice.
(Yeah, We won't forget this day.
Fly more...
I did. Good old days, Ooh...

Here’s a super fan (t-shinji) translation of Saiki’s heartfelt monologue / speech before this song was performed that day: Saiki: We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible. We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of COVID, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet. And in the last one year… or in the COVID pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you. That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan. We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now. Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more. This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.

And who said this is a simple song? Can you hear those heavenly and endearing bass lines by MISA? Can you hear Akane's humbling but precisingly intricate drum fills? Can you hear Kanami's emotional guitar licks throughout the song? Can you hear Miku's on-point and beloved harmonizing back-up vocals? Can you hear the sentimental and nostaglic melody of Saiki's eargasmic vocals? Thank you BAND-MAID. Just that, appreciating for your effforts in these unfortunate predicaments.

The lyrics she wrote are really good. I know someone has translated their songs and their newer stuff has captions on it, but if only people would learn a little Japanese, maybe a day or two of anime episodes a year (just for fun and kill time) won't make you fluent in understanding this language but you can understand a few words or one/two sentences from its original language where there is a difference in meaning from the translation. That's why her lyrics are considered poetic by Japanese.

To hear this song for the first time at the height of the pandemic, with the translated lyrics, was one of the most overwhelming musical experiences of my life. I still can’t play it very often. It just rips me.
@wloffblizz
@wloffblizz 8 ай бұрын
I felt the loneliest I've ever felt in my life during the pandemic. Not even really because of the pandemic or the lockdown themselves -- I've always enjoyed spending time on my own -- but because of everything else going on in my life at that time, and the way everyone was encouraged to not even see their friends ever, and all the news being constant doom and gloom and end of the world, and I (like everyone else) was just stuck at home wallowing in my thoughts and loneliness... When I first heard 'About Us', I had already turned a new leaf and started the next chapter of my life and things were (and are) looking up again, but fuck, this song and knowing what it's about and understanding the handful of Japanese words that I do, it hit me like a train and just reminded me of all those feelings and emotions of the pandemic time. And every time I hear it now, I get those memories of just how goddamn lonely I felt back then. When Saiki sings "daijoubu, hora koko ni iru... hitori janai", it's waterworks for me every single time. I love this song so much, but it reminds me of such painful feelings every time, I just can't listen to it without crying. Such a weird generational experience, the pandemic. It hit everyone of us different, but I don't think anyone was unaffected by it.

One of many classy things about Band-Maid guitarist Kanami is the respect she pays her fellow musicians, alive or departed. When Mikio Fujioka, lead guitarist of Babymetal's Kami Band died, Kanami tweeted (on her Band-Maid account Jan 10, 2018, translating from the Japanese): "Kind-hearted, cute-smiling Mr. Fujioka, I was able to say a final good-bye to you. [Presumably Kanami attended Mikio's funeral.] I will never forget you. As poor a guitarist as I am, allow me to keep you in my mind while I am playing. Thank you for the greatest music. I pray for your soul." When Eddie van Halen died, Kanami retweeted Wolf van Halen's post about his dad and tweeted herself (Oct 7, 2020, translating): "Mr. Eddie van Halen, I learned about tapping from your solo 'Eruption', and I hoped that one day I could produce the same sort of heart-piercing phrases that you played. My guitar hero, may you rest in peace. I pray for your soul." When jazz-fusion pianist Chick Corea died, Kanami tweeted (Feb 12, 2021): "Today I am going to have some coffee and listen to Mr. Chick Corea. He soothes my soul. May he rest in peace." Thought you’d like to know more about Kanami the person.

Not to mention, their discography only spans about eight years, yet it's all excellent (genuinely no bad songs), and they have more content then the majority of bands have in their entire careers. Including only unique tracks, BAND-MAID has released over 90 songs! If we include tracks like the 89 seconds version of "Different," than I think that number is nearly 100. And again, this is all in the span of about 8 years!
