@@realdocloco Hi Philippe, a very good friend of mine here from my neighbourhood played in the band "Soul Caravan" (later Xhoul (Caravan) in the late 60s and he told me that the bass was a very melodic and important instrument for the Motown sound which was very popular at that time. I think he even had a 6-string Hagström bass when he had a hit in Germany with "So much Soul". I therefore started to look more closely at Motown and to hear and see a lot from the time. There is an excellent documentary about the "Funk Brothers" (Standing in the Shadows of Motown) who were the studio band of the Supremes, Sam & Dave and also the Four tops for example. And now I come to the real point of my remarks: MISA's bass playing reminds me very much of James Jamerson. And now the background vocals on Black Hole and especially Warning are added to that. It sounds a hell of a lot like Motown and after a lot of searching I found a song that comes close to that, and it's "Bernadette" by the Four Tops. Those lively bass melodies and behind them the guys singing their aaaah's and ooooh's. I don't know where Kobato and Saiki got that from, but I don't want to rule out that they have also listened to songs from the era.
@realdocloco

@@joki5346 James Jamerson for sure but also Carol Kaye I would say. About six-strings bass: they were quite popular during the sixties indeed - the Beatles often used a Fender VI on songs like Helter Skelter or Let it be ( played by John, not Paul). I have one (the Squier version, surprisingly good with a bit of work). It instantly sounds "sixties".

Black Hole: Kanami wants a super-fast tempo song, where she, Misa and Akane just go nuts the whole time. So it'll be an instrumental, right? Nope, we'll have one of their most complex vocal harmonies to go over top of that, thank you. Brilliant song.

I was amazed when I heard the CD that came with the UnseenWorld scorebook. The fact is that there are four versions of the same song, and all of them are so good that it is hard to believe they are the same. One is the studio version (the original version). The next is the evolutionary version (the upgraded version), which is performed live. Then there is the acoustic version, played on acoustic guitar. Finally, the instrumental version, performed without vocals. And the thing is that each version is so great and new to discover, that it sounds like a completely different song. When you listen to the instrumental version of BLACK HOLE, it's easy to understand why this song was first called "Hell" by the band members. It's so dark, scary, intense, hot and powerful that it's hard to believe it's the same song. It is said that every time you hear a BAND-MAID song, you discover something new about it. The girls have admitted in interviews that they continue to revise their songs with each live concert. It's like the great composer Bruckner, who is known for his revisionist approach to music. It is "inevitable" that the live performance will be "superior" to the CD. There is no longer any doubt about their talent. We can only stand and applaud these five geniuses with a big "Bravo".

I have discovered Band Maid only a year ago (been listening to other Japanese metal bands such as Babymetal and Lovebites), because I thought it would be too "hard rock" for me and not metal enough. Since then, I have been completely captivated by their music. I wish I would have discovered them earlier but so many songs and albums have been released since then that I still have a lot to discover. I've been playing drums for almost 25 years and have played in several bands. I've always liked progressive, technical music with a non-linear structure (like Dream Theater) but I've never had the chance to find a bass player who would fit the music style I was looking for. And for me, Misa is the perfect example of the bass player I always dreamed of for a band. I finally decided to buy a bass last weekend, I can't wait to learn some Band-Maid songs. I know it will take time but the motivation is there!

@@johnvonmartin7501 You have plenty of tutorials on Internet, I think you can find them easily. You can use songsterr to find your tabs (tablatures). Choose easy songs to begin with, beginners often try songs that are too hard for them. Nothing Else Matters by Metallica is a very good song to start learning guitar. Zombies from Cranberries, White Stripes, etc... And if you have the time (and money) maybe try with a private teacher or in a school music (but the theory can be a no go for some). I have learned to play by myself all my life, but I wish I had more theorical knowledge to avoid classic mistakes. :D

Black Hole has so many different riffs packed in that some bands could make an entire album out of it... not Band-Maid though, that'd be too easy for them! Kanami managed to jam all that goodness in just 3 minutes without making the song sound dissonant or _too_ crazy. Feels like controlled chaos throughout.

I love the fact that she starts a band, sacks herself as vocalist, gets someone better for this type of music, proceeds to learn guitar from scratch, and becomes a decent rhythm guitarist, while still doing back up vocals, lyrics, and magic tricks during the intermission at concerts. And she's the spokesperson. Little ball of energy. With vision. How many make their dream come true -- and come true so well. Finding Kanami was a miracle-po as she says. And finding Akane, Misa, and Saiki. Miku is a great talent magnet. Very special pigeon.

Love how the lyrics of BLACK HOLE paint a picture of real Black Holes with references to space distortion, a black void beyond the realms of light, time being stretched out and the shimmering and shining that could be Hawking radiation emitted from an event horizon AND at the same time they also describe an unrewarding relationship that sucks you in relentlessly your existence and meaning being obliterated as you wish some special moment could be stretched for eternity. Miku even took the bother to look up how deep you have to go in space to find evidence for a black hole. Cool. Double cool.
