I did enjoy the more in-depth reaction Jules. A little note about this song, Each person wrote their entire part for the song and Kanami (She is the primary composer for most songs with each member contributing) blended what they did together for the song which could be why it really tried to pull you in different directions. Have a good one!

Loved it! Definitely enjoy hearing what you hear as a musician! This is a special song in their catalog - some of their highest level playing up to this point of their career - then they wrote the Unseen World album and the Sense EP - and took it even higher. We are lucky to be living in the era of Band Maid - they are carrying the torch passed from the likes of the great bands like Rush, Zeppelin, etc. Never dull. A special group of musicians. 🔥🤷🏻‍♂️😎

Your reaction was spot on for me, doing justice to an incredible song. People just going "wow" is okay too, but when you have the ear to provide instant insight, which you obviously do, you've got to use it. EDIT: You're going to feel proud of the "final project" comment! Each band-member wrote part of a song, and Kanami (who usually writes the core of every song) put them together to make Blooming.

The years Kanami spent in classical training were not forgotten when she began writing for Band-Maid. There is an orchestral quality to her songs and arrangements, themes are developed, not merely repeated. Well spotted BTW, This song was a project, she set the band 'homework' and had them all contribute ideas and then wove them together into this masterpiece. Not just the guitarist every band needs, the composer, arranger and producer every band needs.

The format you are using here is great. Anyone can sit there and say "Wow!" To have someone with musical knowledge listen to something and then relay what they hear in layman's terms for us non musicians is far more interesting, so keep it up! As someone else has mentioned you should definitely check out the MV for Warning! As I think it will tick all the boxes for you, but you should also find Giovani, both the studio version and also the instrumental.. Pretty sure that one will fry your brain.

I think analyzing like this is good. There's already thousands of reactors that don't have the musical background/knowledge who just watch the video, go "wow that was great!" and then end the video. For someone who does NOT know much about music theory and composition (like me), it's nice to get someone to explain to me WHY it sounds so good, lol. If you wanted to kind of do both, you could listen to the songs twice in the video... Once fully without pausing, giving your initial reaction as the song goes, then replay it but pause at points you want to talk about. With this, people who don't care about the analysis and just want the "wow that was great!" reaction can get their fix and then leave after the initial listen, and us who enjoy hearing someone who knows what they're talking about pick apart the song can get that as well. Although, it would make your videos a fair amount longer, so I'm not too sure how you'd feel about that.

One of my favs of Band-Maid! Not that they write any bad songs, but in no particular order, and for different reasons, 'Blooming', 'Choose me', 'Day Dreaming', 'Gion Cho', 'Manners' and ;Wonderland' just blow me away. Out of those, 'Gion Cho' is the surprise song that I really shouldn't love so much as my favorite of the band, being a guitarist myself (a lot of Scotish, Irish, Cape Breton fiddle tune experience) is Kanami, for both her playing style (as you said, just what the song needs) and her arrangments! 'Gion Cho' really doesn't even have a guitar break, so the fact it turns up on my all time favorite list is a bit strange ... but the reason for this is: It was the start of when Kanami started asking that the other members take a more upfront role in playing, writing and arrangements, so she made sure to give the singing, Bass and Drums some extra room to show off, so she kept her guitar playing well off in the background and relatively simple. Meanwhile you got one of the first hints at how good and how diversified the rest of the band really was ... Gion Cho is a masterpiece showcase of what the band could still accomplish if Kanami decided to take the day off, and even though I love Kanami and she is my fav of the band, they would still be my favorite band without her (please God, don't ever let that happen!!)

Here's why this level of "in depth" is great: I can't speak for every reaction video viewer, but for me videos like this are like turning your friends on to this new music you've found, and watching them react favorably is just the best. And when someone like you, who has musical knowledge, points out important details with the kind of understanding and specificity you have in this video, it's like our musician friend telling us unmistakably, "That cool bit that you love in this song? I totally hear it too and I totally get why it's a big part of why you dig this." Great stuff, keep up the good work!

I'm sure others have mentioned it but Kanami is the master mind behind the compositions coming up with the tune and generating the riffs and licks. And letting everyone else add their specialness to the song making it a total collaboration in each song. Maybe that is the secret of their sound, they all take part in the overall sound.

This is 100% your best reaction (to Band-Maid) yet. I know for me, and many other madiacs... the more you have to say about a song the better. G'day Jules - great reaction - this one of the Maid's tracks that demands many listens just to appreciate all the parts and layers, and continually being surprised. This is one of the first B-M songs I heard. I listened to this, "Dice," and the live version of "Domination." I had to stop myself from listening to more because it was getting late and I knew I'd devour their entire catalog if I didn't force myself to save some for later. I love Kanami's solo, but MISA is, as always, doing some great work underneath it. My wife and I are going to be seeing them in Chicago, and I know I'm going to be watching MISA most of the time no matter where I'm standing.

If you do get him to react you’d want something with a bass heavy intro like Dice or this other one live that I’m sure someone here can name real quick. I really like your reactions. Always interesting to hear a musician reactor talk about music I already know and love as you all typically find things I never really noticed. So yes, I enjoy the more in-depth reactions. Always cool to see people enjoying Band-Maid. Discovering them about a year ago started a dive into the Japanese music scene for me. Some other Japanese bands that you might enjoy and deserve a little more attention in my opinion. - Gacharic Spin: You pronounce the "cha" part of Gacharic as in gotcha, I believe the name comes from the gacha machines they have in Japan. Not everything they do is necessarily my style, but I absolutely love some of their songs and they are clearly very talented musicians and deserve more love. I would start with "MindSet" (probably my favourite song of last year, most people do the MV, but the live version is also great) or "I Wish I". I have seen commenters trying to get them more known and I thought I would do my part on here since I think you might like their musicianship. Their live shows are absolute madness with them constantly moving and a lot of croud interaction. You can feel the energy radiating from them. - Asterism: A young 3-piece band. Hal-Ca, the guitarist, is 19, Miyu, the bassist, just turned 20 and Mio, the drummer is 22. Al three of them very skilled at their instrument. They formed when they were all relatively young as their first single was released in 2016. They do mainly instrumentals, but I have heard they are incorporating vocals in some of their live shows nowadays, so I assume their next album might have some vocal tracks as well. Their latest album is more on the proggy metal side, while their earlier stuff is more hard rock/heavy metal but all of it is technical. You can't really go wrong with any track of their latest album, but I would probably recommend "Stars" or "Church".

Great reaction and analysis. Yes, more of this type of reaction. Go deep. And if you can, go deeper. xD This reaction is quite rare because all other reactions are basically doing the same thing, just playing the music video without stopping (they stop only to breathe or to prevent copywrite strikes) and just enjoying the song. It can get quite boring and repetitive. A deeper analysis while reacting is a rare medium for reactors. Blooming was written by all 5 of them. They submitted a melody, both instrumental riffs and vocal melodies, to Kanami and she magically forms them into this song. That's why it's constantly changing. You now get why Kanami is a mad scientist, she puts in crazy stuff but still fits everything and goes well. And then once the arrangement is finished, Miku then puts the lay down with her pen and writes masterful lyrics.

I like the way you did this video. I watch a video where host ask listeners to list their favorite guitarist. He described them in one sentence. When got to Kanami he said she is what Kirk Hammett would sound like if he played for Iron Maiden. I hate only praising only Kanami on a video that all the Maids were at their best ,but your description of her brought it out. It was funny, everyone of your pauses were the perfect point. This was one of the songs that sold me on Band-Maid. From the first time I heard it, there are so many little things that are just so cool. For example, the opening four bar riff has the bass and rhythm guitar playing E♭, D, D♭, C, B, C𝄰 (or D♭) while the top line is playing E♭, F, G♭, A♭, B♭, C𝄰 (or D♭). This contrary motion (to me) gives the impression of a curtain rising at the theater. That riff is not played again anywhere else --- until the last four bars. And when you hear it again, it's been changed a little. The bass line is the same but the top notes are B♭, A, A♭, G, G♭, A♭, B♭ and that parallel descending motion (for me) gives the impression of the curtain falling, and that E♭ major stinger is where the curtain hits the stage floor and the spotlight goes off. There are plenty of other details too, like the use of the filter mic on Saiki's voice, the volume pedal on the high guitar line in the "fly away" section, Kanami's outro solo ... where do you start?

When you think about it, we're lucky that these five found each other. They each understand where an arrangement needs to go. It's uncanny, and so much fun to listen to. Your insights are good and confirm why fans appreciate Band-Maid's music.

Listen to the beginning again and then compare it to the ending. It's a similar riff where the beginning goes up and the ending goes down. Kanami's little bookends for the song.

Love to see people when they et that BAND-MAID smile. There's is a ting in Japanese music called Mu, which is the inter play between sound and silence to create tension. BAND-MAID songs are loaded with Mu. Your pronunciation of Kanami's name isn't bad. It's like Tsunami, but never call her Kanami The Tsunami. She doesn't want her name associated with something so negative. As a musician I don't mind musical analysis. The one thing I don't like is when someone goes off on Akane's drumming, which is great, but then they completely miss Kanami's incredible run of harmonics. But rope? More like a Musical Tapestry woven with such skill it would make the Rolling Stones envious. I think it's a Power Pop Masterpiece. Since 'Black Hole' was your favorite song, I didn't think this would be your new fave. But if you liked 'Black Hole' 'Different is in the same vein. There really isn't a song to compare with 'Blooming', Other than that is sounds like an Anime Theme Song. They do have an anime theme song from Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS called 'Glory', though it's not in 'Blooming's league.

Thanks for reacting to 'Blooming' Jules. This was a homework piece from Kanami to the others. She wanted them all to write their parts and then she created this masterpiece from them. There is so much going on that I wonder if I have still heard everything even after many many listens. I would recommend 'Onset' for your next Band Maid reaction, it's an instrumental and there is more crazy tapping madness !

I'm going to echo what I've read so far, continue with your analysis as you did on this song - Blooming. I loved your comments about how Band-Maid 'plays the silence well' and how they take a different route than what you anticipate. I don't know if everyone thinks the same way but to me, a reactor should provide information/ideas about the song that others had not considered or did not know (such as those of us that do not have a musical background). I like this reaction and obviously your comments.

Most us at some point realize that our favorite song by them is always the one we just heard. I don't think you've done "Alone" yet. It was the first song written entirely by the band with no outside composers that management allowed them to record, and they worked really hard to make it impressive, and I think it still is. On the same album that "Freedom" studio cut was on, which had lyrics by Miku and melody composed by an assigned composer.

Yes, the more you can add to any video, the more you make it better. Nice rope analogy. I myself compare this song to a firework show. You keep getting dazzled by different fireworks during the show, and then you get hit with the grand finale of all the fireworks going off all at once.

And yes in a way this was like a college assignment, well, group project. Kanami tasked all the members with each coming up with a part for a new song, which she assembled into Blooming.

Great reaction my dude! you nailed many of the Band-Maid staple "gimmicks". You are correct about Kanami understating her parts behind the rest of the music, sometimes to a detriment of the sound (low mix in live performances). This is my favorite Band-Maid song, it has all the ingredients Band-Maid love to sprinkle into their music. I look forward to more! Thanks.

Kanami, is the composer for the band but she has absolute trust in Akane & Misa to do what a song needs. Saiki for her part waits to hear the drum line before attempting to figure out a lyrical melody, ie ; cadence. Miku writes 99 % of the lyrics & gets her guitar ques from Kanami. You do a great job, bro. ❤🎙🎸🥁😎👌

I'll make an analogy which I hope makes sense. When I'm watching games (insert sport), I enjoy the play-by-play announcers because they create feelings and emotions in me that go with the flow of the game. In addition, I like the color announcers as well because they analyze and explain how and why things are happening...Reactors that have expertise in music or singing should add that to their reaction in addition to describing their feelings.

I always appreciate detailed analysis from a real musician. Just be sure to back up a few before resuming after a pause. Akane always introduces some sort of variation into each verse. Here also is another example of a perfect solo by Kanami. I feel like she is taking us on a magic carpet ride, higher and higher in a tightening spiral until suddenly she pull the rug out from under us and we start plummeting back to earth until Miku catches us and lifts us back up as if we are floating on a cloud. Some favorite songs: Wonderland (live), Day Dreaming, (another perfect Kanami solo) Gion-cho, No God (live), Manners+ Black Hole (live).

Saiki's singing-she's got incredible stamina and vocal control. I'm not sure when she's breathing in many of these songs. In some of their crazier songs, she's holding the whole thing together (because all four instruments are off doing separate things-it's practically a sound cloud in songs like Different and Black Hole). But Saiki's carrying the melody over all of it.

people sometimes complain that Band Maid songs are too short (though 3 minutes or so is pretty standard for most pop formats), but since they fit more music into a single minute of playing than most bands/groups/acts put in a full album?

Sometimes when I listen to "Blackhole" and the songs on the Unseen World album, I have a feeling that the girls have received some influence from bands like SOKONINARU kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mt50hKxh09GmnKc.html (a band you must listen to)... I mean the speed, the silences, the precision... knowing Kanami's relentless mind, everything is possible.👍

You asked for it. ,-) Reaction and analysis at the same time is a bit like drinking wine with friends and a good dish. A glass enjoyable for you and any friend, too many glasses… we have probably all been there. Facial expressions and body language can make a reaction pleasant without a word being uttered, Provided it happens naturally and is not excessive and / or is a tiring gimmick. One or two shorter stops perfectly ok for me. Analyzes in a reaction that is 3-4 times longer than the song I can be without. Analysis of a song can be very interesting, but then it is not a reaction. Analyzes are also a balancing act, a torment if the person who makes it seems to want to show how much it can and disassembles the song down to the smallest atom. Cheers!
