The true value of Miku lies in the lyrics she writes. What's more, Miku's guitar at there live creates a unique groove with Misa's bass and Akane's drums.

I think Blooming is the ideal song for introducing BAND-MAID to those who have not yet listened to their songs. Their incredible musical structure, the intensity from beginning to end, the amazing skills of each members and above all, the pure joy of musical experience when listening to their songs. These elements are all in this one song.

That quiet vocal bit is so nice. It feels like pushing off of shore on something like a rowboat onto a still quiet lake, only seeing and hearing the ripples around you as you drift out. (And then, I dunno, pull-starting an engine as the energy rushes back into the song?) No wonder the concept of Sirens exists, these ladies would have captured/shipwrecked all the sailors.

There is so much quality music made by these women in such a short period of time. Since the release of Alone just about everything is all them. They took the ball and ran with it. I haven't counted but since the release of Alone there are around 65 Kobato-Tono songs in about five years. Has anyone else done that in this millennium? I don't think so. Prince use to proclaim he was making the "new" music. I think Band-Maid has the far better claim "making the new sound for the unseen world". These ladies are on a mission. Sacramento loves Band-Maid.

Great comment, I too marvel at how much superb music they've put out in just 7 years! 65 songs in the last 5 years? And when you think about the quality of the composing and arranging in their material that's saying something. They aren't just putting out cookie cutter/formula songs by any means! The ladies ARE on a mission for sure! And we are fortunate to be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors. Alright, Sacramento! Near my old stomping grounds, I used to live and gig around Chico. @@sacluvsBM Yes, that is rare (and excellent) company indeed! I remember reading that there a 3 year period when the Beatles released 2 albums per year at during that time. That's crazy and impressive as well. I just got "Just Bring It" this week, slowly building my collection of Band Maid releases. What an album--has so many of their "hits" and some I'm just now discovering-OOPARTS (nice mellow rocker with another awesomely pretty solo by Kanami!), "you" and "decided by myself" are gems too. I've always liked "Awkward" before, but it's rapidly becoming one of my favorites! (not that Kanami's 2 solos on that are a factor-ha!) I wonder what the next release will be like...another masterpiece most likely. These ladies ARE on a mission!

Robert, I completely thought that I'd replied to this, bro. I apologise greatly if it came across like I ignored this. I agree with Marcus (nothing new there lol) this comment is spot on. I mean, personally, I was never the biggest fan of Prince and I absolutely disagree with him making 'new' music, I mean.. sure, he has a pretty unique voice or whatever and I could probably be like "Oh, this is Prince" if I heard him on the radio (my Dad listens to a lot of stuff from back then) but I wouldn't say that's because of the songs he was making, it's just more like his voice is distinct. I hate to down talk musicians though, cause he was certainly a very talented bloke, but I think I'm inclined to agree with you. Band-Maid were given the foundation that SO many other bands were given but what they built.. it sounds, feels, looks, tastes and smells TOTALLY unique to them and that absolutely gives them a lot more traction in that argument IMO. I love the way that you worded that as well. Poetic AF! Again, brother. I'm so sorry to have left this a week, I remember reading it and being like "Yeah! Too right!" lol! I hope you're doing well and having a great week so far, bro :)

7: 15 - The inlay on Kanami's guitar neck is indeed birds. It's a marque of PRS guitars, which supply her guitars. She has been supported by the company for years as she is obviously a damn fine advert for their gear and there's a really excellent video of Kanami trying out a bunch of their new models (including the £25,000 Dragon model, where the neck is inlaid along its length with a dragon design and is basically coolAF) as part of the company's 35th anniversary celebrations - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e56UnpOgtpzIe5s.html . 🎸🤘 I was listening to a song of Band-Maid's called 'Rinne' the other day and thought of how much you're going to love it. I was going to recommend it and then I realised that your list of Band-Maid songs-to-react-to probably just consists of something like " 1. Their entire back catalogue, live and MV's, 2. All future songs." 🤣 Love your reactions because you don't hide your enjoyment, awe, happiness, appreciation (and occasional tear) at the songs these ridiculously talented musicians/singers/ladies/Rock goddesses put out. There's nothing better from our viewpoint than seeing someone reflect the feelings we all had the first time we saw a particular MV or live performance or listened to a track for the first time. I am also finding myself wanting to tell some other reactors to watch how you do your thing - get blown away by some part of the song, rewind it back by 15 seconds so you have the all important lead in and then enjoy the piece again. Keep doing what you're doing the way you're doing it, Chief! 🤘🎸🦊🤘

Hey you happened to catch me on a sleepless night so I saw this pretty much as soon as it came up. For some background on this song, it was apparently very close to what happenes when the whole band designs the song. Kanami apparently gave them all 'homework' to write a portion of the song themselves, and then she took all the submissions and put them together into this whole. MISA reportedly said she regretted some of the bass parts she wrote, because she did it while she was drunk and made it too difficult. This song is really strong overall, in particular from the second verse onwards. The parts of play, stop, play, stop creates a good groove. And the solo section is really incredible with the break down at the end. Not to mention the vocal layering toward the end. And as usual Akane being an insane beast on the drums. She really drives the song. I know you have the full list of Band-Maid songs as recommendations at this point, so I will only reiterate my recommendation to compare "Secret My Lips" to "Secret Maiko Lips" and see a new side to them.

Alright--crack on mate!! "I didn't see that comin'"--yesss indeed ha ha! So nice that I found this on the very day you reacted Chief! I saw you were doing "Blooming" and got that Band Maid smile again, oh yeah he's gonna be blown away again! Now here's the crazy part--I hadn't heard it in awhile and I got completely gobsmacked AGAIN myself! I mean this song has got it all-the compositional and arranging skill that Kanami and the rest of the band too, has on this is otherworldly. The transitions, as you mentioned, are just fantastic, constantly surprising the listener. This is one of their best songs, everyone in the band shines so white hot, almost simultaneously at times! Akane is just a powerhouse on this, her skill on every part of the kit is mindblowing. It's as if she's basically playing a series of different drum solos at times, and they always groove. Incredible. I'm sure you as a drummer love that! And MIsa providing the bass...man, all of those brilliant melodic phrases just kicking ass. One complaint-too many pauses...just kidding! Saiki is just so powerful, putting everything she has into it, with the seamless harmony vocals by MIku. And she cranks her power chords throughout.. Is that sublime harmony after Kanami's solo not as gorgeous as it gets? (sigh...) As us guitarists always say, Kanami is always just such a pleasure to listen to and to revere, just the solos themselves here...unreal. Hits us in the face with that wah, then blows by with the incendiary wailing riffage...into some of the most beautiful tapping I've ever heard. The way she phrases them, along with the very subtle rests in between is something. Then Misa MIsa's beautiful badass bass coming in! It's nonstop. And Chief you described how the song made you feel so superbly, it IS perfect! Then after all of that, Kanami has to hit us again with another amazing solo--I truly don't know how she continues to create these but wow---the nice slow, almost bluesy intro into her open string stuff, then the majestic ascending line....it's crazy! And then the song goes into the end------perfect as usual. Do you wonder like I do how much time it takes them to put together a song like this? Another masterpiece. PS-I'd forgotten this is the song where Kanami gave everyone some homework to come up with a section on their own. Amazing! PPS-I think it's time to react to their brilliant instrumental "onset"! Thanks again mate for another spot on, entertaining reaction to what these ladies are capable of. You made my day---Cheers!

@@Chief322 I'm sure you're still getting tons of requests for Band Maid-I recommend Moratorium (Live), Play or Awkward. They all are excellent. I know you've got other bands to react to as well, there's no hurry-I know you'll get to them eventually. I totally agree on how it's almost impossible to focus on one player during their songs, the way they are composed and arranged, someone else will play a compelling part which is distracting. Then we're down THAT rabbit hole. Don't work too hard bro-take it easy!

They are master songwriters. The best I can tell you is that you might find a few songs that are good. The rest are ranging from great to exceptional. When I discuss bands I don't include them because they are in a class all by themselves. I love a lot of Japanese metal bands but they are not metal. They are just musicians who happen to have that hit song formula in their DNA.

One other reactor pointed out that Domination and Secret My Lips have almost the same solo and the rythm is similar at parts. I guess that's the closest Band-Maid will ever be to misstep in music, but not really for me. I guess Kanami either wanted to try the same sound in different songs or she just forgot (and geniuses never forget). @@Chief322 You have to consider I suppose, the album before Conqueror was DOMINATION ... with multiple super-popular tracks. In comparison, I think that is what people were referring to. I also think that has a lot to do with UNSEEN WORLD sounding the way it does. The girls are never satisfied with standing still and I don't think COVID could have come at a worse time for the band. BAND MAID were poised to have a breakout year in 2020, especially with Budokan.
