I am happy to die on this hill, this is the most perfectly written and performed song I have ever heard. Bass, guitars, drums and vocals - just perfection. As a Beatles fan I thought I'd never hear a band as good (or better) as them. And very happy to die on the hill that Band Maid are as good as the fab 4. Different sound, different era, different people - but album after album of beautifully curated songs.

Truly amazing. I didn't even like rock (much) until I heard Band-Maid. I feel like the last 60 years, rock was in Beta-testing and this is the actual rollout. Epic.

When I hear Saiki’s voice I feel amazing tone. It’s like mixing Pat Benatar, Amy Lee and Sade. Saiki is incredibly gorgeous. Please come to NYC….whole band is top echelon for me. Everyone has massive talent in this group….the guitar solo is too much emotion for me, there is something Kanami wants us to hear. Just beautiful, just beautiful.

BAND-MAIDを知るきっかけになった曲のうちの一曲だけど、初めて聴いた時にまず彩姫ちゃんのパワフルな声と、くるっぽー(小鳩ミク)のハモリがとにかく心をぐわっと掴んできましたね。 AKANEのドラム、ほんとどこからそんなダイナミックな音量出るねんっていつも思うし、MISAさんはちょいちょいテクい奏法してるのに気づかせないようにスッと澄ました表情してる。かなみんは推しです。ほんと大好き。見た目も中身も全部好き。メンバー全員好きなんだけど、かなみんは別格です。

昨年10月にBAND-MAIDにたどり着いてこの一年、全てのCDとNET動画を見まくりスマホに入れて聞きまくって、次々と紡ぎ出され演奏される曲に外れがないことに驚嘆しつつ、数少ないバラードの中で「Daydreaming」はやはり屈指の名曲だと改めて感じます。 　パワフルでスピーディで過激な演奏に最初は圧倒されますが、その世界にどっぷり漬かって見るとBAND-MAIDの音楽の全てには、j-popというより日本の歌謡曲の伝統とも言うべき哀切なメロディーと歌詞の融合が醸し出すエモーショナルな通底音が流れていると思い始めています。この「Daydreaming」と「puzzle」はそれがストレートに出ているバラードの傑作でしょう。「哀愁のヨーロッパ」のサンタナをリスペクトするKANAMIの作曲とMIKUの痛切な歌詞、そして誤解を恐れずに言えば演歌歌手の情感たっぷりの歌唱法にも通じるSAIKIの官能的な声が作り出す嫋々たる世界。 「Daydreaming」はほぼ全てのライブで激しい演奏の中間に箸休めのようにミドルテンポのバラードとして演奏されていますが、SAIKIのボーカルでいきなり始まるこのMVよりも、長いイントロから入る数々のLIVEヴァージョン、なかでも深い夜霧のような舞台演出から静かに流れるKANAMIのピアノソロのイントロで始まる2018ZEPPTOKYOでのLIVEバージョンの方が哀愁に満ちたこの曲にふさわしいでしょう。 もう一つ、あまり言及されることはないようですが、MIKUが紡ぎ出す哀切な歌詞がメロディーと融合して特別な世界を作り上げていることを忘れることはできません。 感情や思いを直接表現する日本語歌詞部分と心の動きを映像として投影した映画のシーンのような情景を描く部分が交互に繰り返され、曲調にあった世界が出現します。 募っていく恋心をそのまま言葉にする感情の部分 「覚めないで　掠れた声で　今夜だけは　そばにいてよ 消えないで　離れないで　今夜だけは　そばにいてよ それでも加速してく思い　もっと感じたい　」 甘く切ない二人の関係を投影した情景の部分 「月明かりに揺れ動いた　交わる二人の影 不器用に絡み合って　明けない夜を願った」 「吐息を感じる距離が　なんだかとても愛しくて 動き出した二人の影が　明けてく夜に溶けた」 そして、絶妙のタイミングで挿入される英語歌詞が日本語歌詞の世界を補強しています。 でも、この曲の郷愁と憂愁に満ちた世界は「Daydreaming」のタイトルが示すように、現実にあった世界でなく、白日夢、甘い空想の世界かもしれないというMIKUの覚めた批評が根底にあるようにも思われます。 ファンなら知ってるように、BAND-MAIDの曲は全てメロディ先行で歌詞は曲調に合わせた世界をMIKUが感じて考えて調べて、MIKU個人の感情や思いを入れずに小説や絵画のように構成され創作されています。それは短歌のような言葉数に制限のある日本の定型詩のように不自由なスタイルですが、MIKUはその方が作りやすいと言っています。その中で英語歌詞はメロディと歌詞の過不足を調整するように挿入されているのかもしれないという気もします。 切ないほどの強い思いを直接言葉にするのでなく、映画のように感情をビジュアル化して表現するというスタイルは名曲「puzzle」ですでに試みられています。恋の予感を「puzzleピースがはまる音がした」と言い、破局の予感を「崩れてくpuzzle」という視覚的表現で歌っていることには舌を巻きました。 「Daydreaming」の作詞にはSAIKIが加わっているようですが、どの部分がそれなのか、興味津々ですね。多分、ストレートな感情表現の部分だと思いますが、それだけSAIKIにもこの曲への思い入れが強かったと言うことでしょうか。 それにしても「Daydreaming」も「puzzle」も、海外のファンからのおびただしいReaction動画がアップされていて、5人のメンバーの才能が融合する絶妙なアンサンブルで演奏される、これらの曲のエモーショナルでエロティックとさえ言える魅惑的な世界に心がつかまれていることが察しられます。ただ残念なことは、楽曲と演奏の魅力に加えて、海外のファンにも日本語歌詞の素晴らしさをその語感を含めて味わえたならBAND-MAIDの音楽の全体がさらに理解されることだろう、と言う思いが残ることです。（2023.10.4）

When Saiki sings the words "feel my soul" at the end my tears starts dripping, it's so beautiful and so full of emotions, the whole song is.... I'm loosing it listening to Band-Maid at 3:30AM

The guitar... how that sliding scratch tone grabs you by the collar with how it comes in, and with the light fuzzy longing tone that keeps driving through your heart, you can feel how Kanami is trying to reach into to you deeply, very deeply... then you find you're alone, but again, not alone... there's this resonating longing tone still echoing in your heart and mind... and suddenly realize that this entire song is just that... well, it might be just me, but every time I listen to this song, I feel the longing...

This song helped lift me up out of some dark thoughts a few months ago. It may be "just" a rock ballad, but it reminded me that there is still a lot of beauty in this world, and music worth hearing.

Thank you for your music. I am a 38 year old married man working as a nurse and far away from my daughters. For some reason this song has made me tearful and was almost sobbing through the melodies, riffs, and syncopations in the song. I have always been into rock music and I play guitar every time I come back from work to de-stress, hoping I could somehow discover somewhere along the 6 strings vibrating above a P90 pickup the lost rock tunes I long for. And for the past decades the genre has been mostly benign but I was always hopeful that somewhere, somehow, an individual or a group has finally re-ignited the flames. Hope you could tour in the UK this year. Rock on ladies! A new fan here.
