Here's a motivational video of the phenomenal all female rock band called BAND-MAID!!
This is a band for the history books with a complicated song structure and loads of just kick-ass hard rock! My big mistake was thinking that they were an idol group...this is REAL ROCK!🤘
There are other recordings of these songs with cleaner sound and camera work, but this was a cool outdoor festival performance.
One of my kids didn't know BAND-MAID played at Lollapalooza, so I chose this performance.
This is my first video made using DaVinci Resolve...please bear with the mistakes, I'm still learning.
First of all, I want to thank the creator of an excellent and informative channel @Ohrenje for guidance on how to do this better. I really like how clean his format is...I hope to get to that level someday as I improve in the aspects of video creation.
Please check out his channel for the most amazing top quality BAND-MAID content including the documentaries of each member AND the now in progress story/live manga: The Pigeon Who Dreams of Singing -- I love this series and look forward to the next episode!!!
I can't say enough about this guy's videos and the hard work that he and everyone who works with him in the creation of these videos do - a true professional! Please check out his channel and support his hard work

NOTE: Please watch and support Ohrenje... these are high quality videos!
+++++++
So moving forward, the musical/lyrics videos have a format that I'm going to try...they are time consuming and hard work for me, BUT they go right into my studying of Japanese language and it was worth the time put in. It really forced me to learn more both in my target language of Japanese and video editing. Plus, I'm learning new lyrics to sing....while driving in my car of course!
I've decided that for these types of videos, I'll play the entire song with my translation (including my mistakes) and then after the video - switch to an analysis of a few lines of lyrics sharing grammar points that I've learned. If you translate on your own, the meaning of the song may change a bit from my interpretation...we're learning together!
Chapters:
00:00 Opening Question & Theme
00:18 Intro to BAND-MAID
01:27 Topic - Lyrics video learning intro
03:27 BAND-MAID Lollapalooza Performance (DICE)
07:34 Lyrics Analysis for DICE
14:33 BAND-MAID Lollapolooza Performance (Hate?)
19:24 Lyrics Analysis for Hate?
23:03 Thoughts on music - learning - motivation - inspiration
24:30 KZfaqr Recommendations (reactors)
24:46 Ohrenje Channel - Documentaries - Excellent Fan Content (also good for language learning)
25:08 Closing thoughts - Learning from mistakes
Corrections:
13:23 I accidentally used the kanji 直 (fix) instead of 値 (value). Kanji looks similar, but the second one has the radical 人
For this video, I'm using the following equipment:
Lapel mic for audio
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to record video
Lighting elements adjusted (key light and supplemental)
Hokem gimbal for my camera mount
Software environment is now DaVinci Resolve. This is my first video using DaVinci Resolve and there is still a huge learning curve - I will continue to improve the sound over time.
Since I'm currently using the free version of DaVinci Resolve until I become a more advanced user - the voice isolation feature is not available - I will learn to improve this in the future. However, I'm figuring out a few other sound and voice features within Resolve to make my voice more clearly understood.
*********
NOTE: I am a fellow learner and not claiming to be a teacher in any of these subjects, but sharing my learning methods for motivation. I hope some of these videos are helpful to people out there learning new skills in adulthood. Please feel free to share your experiences with me and others. Remember that we are always learning together.
I am not a teacher, but currently learning from teachers in these subjects:
My translations, karate techniques, spoken language, etc., will often have many mistakes as I'm figuring this out on my own as much as possible. The mistakes are necessary for learning and I will make many many mistakes in the videos as I'm still learning these subjects.... including HOW to make videos. Over time, I'll find things to correct and make new videos to document my progress.

日本から 素晴らしい歌詞の分析をしていただきありがとうございます。 日本人でも、日常で使っていても自覚していない様々な分析がされています。日本人でも、BAND-MAIDの曲を聞きながら歌詞を理解するのは難しい時があります。また、言葉はその国の歴史や人の感情にもつながるので難しい部分があります。Don’t let me down も、初めて聞いた時には、それほどセクシーとは感じませんでしたが英語圏での意味を知りびっくりしました。歌詞を知らなくてもBAND-MAIDの曲は素晴らしいのですが、知ればより楽しむことが出来ます。

This is cool and quite unique. I don't think I've seen anyone else do what you have done as far as breaking down the lyrical translation and even grammatically dissecting it. It gives more meaning to the songs that now songs like Hate, which in no way I hate, but love 😁, I could now understand. Thank you for doing this. Looking forward to your future reactions and lyrical breakdown. Subbed

One of the most interesting content in a long time! Now, I don't know yet if it improves my desire to learn japanese ... or if it just afraid me 😆. Just kidding. Also, I love how it demonstrates the difference between Miku and Saiki's penned songs! I love Miku's work but I really hope for more Saiki-written lyrics in the future because she brings fresh air with her very straight forward words and I'm sure it can "speaks" to a lot of japanese people (and not only japanese!).

A really interesting new view on language learning through this music. I have always found the earlier videos of acoustic works with captions appearing in "bubble" to be the most helpful for learning Japanese, both spoken and written..---- BandMaid Nihongo is, (I think !) the name of that series. I must look it up again !!............. Anyway, the presentation of translations this way is something that I would love to see more of. Probably works best with just kana, as kanji inevitably takes us too far into writing rather than conversation. If the objective is to hear and speak, I must say that kanji seems a too time-consuming diversion from the road ! Thank you for your fascinating take on all this ,in any case. Hope to see more.
@centurybeta2112
@centurybeta2112 5 ай бұрын
Definitely, learning kanji for me is a loooooong road, but super fun. That's why I'm making sure to add furigana to the songs the way it's done normally. This way everything can be read in kana as well. I'll make sure to continue to do that👍

From an interview: Q: The title has a question mark, so I expected you had some feeling that might be hatred and would end up saying “I hate you but I love you”… Saiki: Not at all. Because I say “It’s meaningless” at the end (laughs). However, these lyrics were purely inspired by the music. When I listened to it for the first time, I had the impression that Kanami was pissed off by something. Like, she was irritated (laughs).

@@_DriveTime From a Billboard interview: SAIKI: When I wrote the words to that song, I was really pissed off at the kind of person who cheats on their partner. [Laughs] That was the emotional state that I used when I wrote “HATE?” There was more on this on r/Band-Maid, but I'm not searching for it.

Interesting how they even split a line in half- mostly Japanese then English or sometimes English then Japanese. I can only think that it is governed by the bar length ie. notes in the bar of music. Whatever it is, the composing and arrangement by Kanami and the lyrics by either Miku or Saiki are absolute genius. About the song Hate- someone seriously got pissed off about something. You will know Wabi Sabi. Really enjoyed this- Thanks.

Yep, I actually really like the blending of language in music and I feel like there's a great use for it. The English can help us who don't know Japanese (or another target language) initially connect, or certain words in each language may have more impact on the meaning of what the songwriter wanted to express. I really like that BAND-MAID does this so well. I have a lot of say on this in a future video I'm planning.

Wow, it seems like Japanese learning terms and kanji compartmentalization has become very complex. Many of terms you have been using I have never heard of before until now. Took Japanese in high school, had to repeat it and got a little further in college. tbh I probably picked up more words and meanings watching anime listening while reading the subtitles, but the schooling did provide the groundwork to be able to pick up the words and phrases. same with donghua, I picked a few words of mandarin listening and reading the subtitles.

Let ask you a question when you learned english do you use a dictionary? you turned language into a math problem. A = x あ = 何。 私は何も分からない。 I understood nothing!!! I did this a lot and had no understanding of japanese. I did as much as 1000 anki cards a day. I couldn't watch an anime in japanese with out english subs. I stopped looking everything up and binged one piece over 1000 eps with no English. I can understand what i watch eventhough I don't know the meaning of a lot of words. vocabuallary does not equal understanding. there a tons of English words I don't know how to spell or know what they mean. I am a fully functional native speaker of English. I Understand English on a native level. Understanding comes from the right hemisphere of the brain and vacubulary and meaning comes from the left hemasphere. I started studing brain functions after my wife had a major right hemasphere stroke. There are great books on brain function like "the master and his emmasary". I spun my wheels for seven years and had no understanding of Japanese, I can transalte it. You can not understand Japanese in English terms. You can only understand Japanese in Japanese terms. I know you are working real hard on your Japanese. I know I've been there. Just immerese and enjoy the content. don't worry about getting it right.

100% correct! We all have different ways of learning. I definitely used a dictionary often when I was a kid... And still do sometimes. In Japanese, I just got to a certain point on rules and studying grammar. After that, it's immersion and inference, then looking up more rules, vocab, etc, and applying when I get a chance... And trying conversation with other people which is the fun part. 😆

However, since I'm trying to sing in both languages (just for fun of course), I'm making it a point to learn what I'm singing about. It increases the immersion and helps me retain new information better. My channel is actually about learning motivation and techniques I use for overcoming the learning plateau. J Rock does that for me.... Actually ALL rock music does that for me🤘😎

@@centurybeta2112 Have you seen Hololive? They're a Japanese Vtuber agency but they have English Vtubers too. So there is a lot of multi language content. It's hilarious when the cute Japanese girls try to speak English especially Korone and Miko. Or when Gawr Gura tries to speak Japanese. But some of their English speaking girls are really good at Japanese. Bae is near native and Kiara is very good. Some of the Japanese girls did Duolingo English and it's hilarious. Suisei especially. It's funny for me because I did the opposite. I'm learning Japanese with Duolingo. It's the same lessons basically but in reverse.

@@centurybeta2112 Have you heard Gawr Gura sing in Japanese? She's American and doesn't speak much Japanese but her Japanese is so cute. She's huge in Japan. They love her. I recommend Reflect or Q.

I agree 100%!!! 10th anniversary concert was exceptional! Hulu/Lolla camerawork was frustrating, but still fun that it was in Chicago😉 In the description of this video, I explain why I chose this one (it was for one of my kids and this was the version that made her a new fan).😎

Miku's song motivates me, Saiki's song motivates me to not make her mad. I liked Saiki's sense of humor, especially the line about "10 minutes of a lame workout". A Japanese music video that could really use lyrics added to it is the song "Yoshū Fukushū" by Maximum the Hormone. Without lyrics you are missing out on the emotional impact. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mMt-aMihmrPWlI0.html

I was thinking about that exact same thing about the 'workout' on that line😂 Saiki is not someone to make mad💪
