Kanami's contented smile, I think she's happy with the riffs in this one, and it's always good to see her on backing vocals.

The band members really are a very tight team of musicians. Kanami provides a rough draft of a song to Akane and Misa and lets them develop thirs parts. She refines the arrangements, provides a copy to Miku who comes up with phenomenon Lyrics. Saiki chips in on the lyrics too...everything comes together in practice sessions. In the end it's their dedication to perform as a team which makes their sound great! Their joy of playing their music is transfer to the fans and amplified ten fold. Thanks, Peace and Respect from Canada

At least once a day I remember that I'm going to see BAND MAID live in Chicago and it makes me smile. Embarrassing when this happens in public- just an old man smiling and mumbling something about a BAND of Maid's. Saying hello in Japanese and wishing I understood the language. BAND MAID has made my life much more interesting and fun and I thank them for it."Our rock never dies ever. Forever!" So very,very true.

With some other Band-Maid songs you'll probably need a couple (maybe more) listens to get even a glimpse of their great composition skills. But that's not the case with FATE: just a straight out in-your-face hard rock banger that grabs you by the throat right from the start. The 20 year old me surely have loved this song... but now i appreciate and love it even more! Thanks for reacting to this absolute gem, and in its best live version nothing less!

There are so many direct, hard hitting rock songs on the Domination album, and “Fate” is one my absolute favorites. They play this so well live ! This 17’ Zepp Tokyo performance is legend in my book. Good review 😎

Something another reactor has picked up on is that Akane switches between standard time and half time which changes the feel of the song, and then throws in some double time as well to energise the song. The thing she does in several songs which has always stood out to me (onset, daydreaming and about us for example), is when she plays around the toms which just completely changes the atmosphere of the song.
@yellowclip78622 жыл бұрын
Kobato sounds so good on this! 🥰 And that ending Akane fill where it's just kick is sooooo good!😎 Misa plays fingerstyle in ten or so songs, usually the more classic rock-sounding ones and the ballads, which I find very interesting.

Watching Zepp got me "into" quite a few songs I'd overlooked because there were no official videos and few if any reactions. Aside from "Fate" and "Spirit" there are "Clang," "You," "One and Only," "I can't Live Without You," to name a few.

I only discovered this track quite recently. A reactor who was brand new to Band Maid picked it as his intro song, and I thought - What? Holy hell, this is a real belter, why haven't I heard it before? I think this live performance is fairly new on You Tube. So I was delighted to see you and Wave reacting to it, which has just reinforced how good it is. It was suggested that this was one of their lesser known numbers, sort of like a B side or concert filler. All I can say is that if they write songs like this as B sides, other bands may as well throw in the towel now. Game over.

I totally understand what you are saying. After exhausting the BM catalog I've started to go back and listen to some music that I heavily listen too before discovering them. I'm lucky enough to be able to listen to music most of the day at work and I find after a few hours I get bored with what I am playing (non BM). I also find like you that there are parts that I like, but overall there is usually something lacking. Then I switch back to Band Maid and am just amazed by how well put together the music is and with the performance of every member of the band. I took a road trip with my wife a few weeks ago and we listed to satellite radio the whole time (she not a fan of heavy music) and I was bored straight the whole time with what was being played. I started playing WWMD (what would Misa do?) in my head and trying to reimagine the music playing with her bass playing in it. Then it was WWAD and WWKD? You get the drift, I'm sure. They have reset the bar for how I evaluate music and there is no going back! Also, Kanami at the start of this when she just standing smiling there kicking out that heay riff. Excellent!

I love these bluesy rockers like Fate, Manners, Chemical Reaction. Imagine this one at a festival ... "Hey!" "Hey!" "Hey!" A deep dive into Kanami's solos is a great idea. I agree with you, I don't think they are "jammed" into existence, I think she sits down at the piano and works them out, and then learns them on guitar. I suspect if you took the chords she outlines in the back half of this solo and played them as triads on piano, they would fit everything else in the song precisely. Also, that brilliantly weird lead-in to the first half of the solo... Your conclusion is exactly right. They have the "feel" to make songs listenable and emotional, while still having the education and skill to make them intricate and impressive. The problem with many of the, I'll call them "operatic," bands is they've lost their emotional impact on their way to being impressive. There are some bands I really enjoy, like The Mars Volta for example, that are not going to connect with the average listener. It's just too dense, and even if there are sections that connect, overall it's just mind-boggling to absorb. Band-Maid seems to bridge that gap.

Really like these slightly older performances as Kanami's guitar is more upfront in the mix which it should be in my humble opinion. She is not drowning out the other instruments or Saki's voice but her riffs are not almost in the background which they seem to be in the later songs. Love the later work but would just like a bit more prominence for Kanami's guitar. But then Kanami knows what she is doing so she probably knows best what is the right mix (or the mix she desires). Just put it down to me being a huge admirer of Kanami

Excellent. What a fantastic video Ryan. Thank you very much. Two or three things you have mentioned have made me think, as always. One: The way the rhythm of the songs changes during solos and bridges, wow I look forward to that video. Two: Five Japanese girls nailing a southern rock song at a concert with (what is for me) the best sound recording of all time. Three: Songs that allow you to listen to them comfortably and at the same time dig into them, amazed by the complexity they hide. And finally: Is there anything more elegant than MISA playing the bass? Well maybe just MISA playing the bass on a carpet (in this video her right hand has always seemed wonderful to me).

Great song. It works as a stadium rocker or a banger you could put on at an outdoor party. But then, the more you invest in listening to it, the more it gives up. As someone not a million miles from where you're sitting right now once said, "This fucking band, man." Lately I always notice Miku in these live videos. She always looks like someone for whom all their dreams have come true. She looks like she's fit to burst from the sheer joy. Especially so in the Shibuya show. It's a little extra bit of magic - on top of all the rest of the magic. One other thing I've noticed that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere - everyone talks of how much more forward in the mix Kanami's guitar is in the Zepp show compared to Shibuya and if you look, you can see that her rig is doubled here. Two Mesa Boogie rigs where there's usually only one. Don't know if this is the actual difference, though.

Usually she does this with crowd response sections, in this case the 'Hey'! parts. She does the same on other songs, It's really noticeable on Moratorium live.
