The members of Maid-Band are all to one degree or another professionally trained/educated. The wearing of Maid outfits is something called the "Gap" meaning the gap of what you see, Maids vs what you are hearing, Hard Rock. That "Gap" concept is popular in Japan. How they work, Kanami (lead guitar) composes the music, sending (internet) it to Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) for bass and drums. Miku.(vocals, rhythm guitar, band founder, & spokes-pigeon) writes the lyrics. Then to the studio where all of them complete the song. Saiki (vocals) is the one who calls "we're done". Likely because the others would work on a song forever. On the last album Miku and Saiki arranged the order of the songs. Recap, they write arrange and produce their own songs. Of course as you just heard they are highly talented and skilled performers, no electronic tricks needed. Kanami composes on the piano that she has played since she was 6 yo, began to play the guitar in high school. Just think you still have Lovebites, Aldious, and the most famous band Babymetal to get to know!!! If you think you play a musical instrument well, there is a Japanese lady who is better than you!! If you are interested in all-female bands, you should react other Japanese ones. I will enumerate other names of the bands I often listen to their songs except BAND-MAID. LOVEBITES, Mary's Blood, BRIDEAR, DOLL$BOXX… The young ones named HAGANE and NEMOPHILA came up lately too. In Japan, there are many other all-female bands I haven't listened to their songs. I recommend especially LOVEBITES. They are absolutely a Heavy Metal band. They got Best new band at Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards 2018. Japan has many other interesting bands which is not all-female but has one or more ladies. maximum the hormone, Sokoninaru, Unlucky Morpheus, ASTERISM… There is Ningen Isu called 'Grandpa Metal' by many people too. The overlap between fans of Nightwish and Band-Maid seems to be large, and I'm left wondering what its history is given that on the face of it they're occupying very different genres. Can anyone enlighten me? I guess I need to start exploring Nightwish's oeuvre in greater depth.

Far too many of the "girl bands" were formed as a gimmick or are only girl fronted. Band-Maid are all very talented musicians, and they started the group on their own, not as some corporate gimmick.

Aldious Mary's Blood Dollboxx Lovebites Unlucky Morpheus (1/2+-) female Show-ya. there is a group of young ladies from South Korea trying to get their start into the big time. they're called: Walking After U. Folk Metal from Mongolia The Hu Band.(dudes)

Please do not compare BAND-MAID with BABYMETAL. They have nothing in common except to be from Japan. If you want to compare them, then use to The Who or Led Zeppelin. Because that's the level they are.

And each time you stop the music and start talking, there it is again. Annoying again. It's an interesting concept, but it's boring when it keeps going and going and going..
