Jon: How many genres? Band-Maid: Yes

They say you can't judge a book by it's cover, and band Maid is a perfect example of this. So many people dismiss this band immediately because of their aesthetic. They think they are just a "gimmick" or a "girl band", and man are they missing out on something special. Band Maid is a once in a lifetime band. And I'm not talking as a Rock, metal, progressive, J-rock, or pop-punk band, just as a BAND regardless of genre. These 5 musicians are capable of doing anything they want, and always seem to do it to perfection. How many bands in your lifetime have you know of that could do that? Moreover, how many have been brave enough to actually do it? On top of all of this when the 5 are together performing on stage they have a "synergy* or "IT" factor that simply can't be explained. Band Maid simply checks off every box there is from musicianship to grounded humility and everything in between. They are just SPECIAL!! Fifty years ago people scoffed and dismissed me because I was a RUSH fan, yet today their music is more appreciated that ever by those same people. So for those today who scoff and dismiss me when I tell them Band Maid is one of the best bands ever...well fifty years from now I will be smiling down on you from the "After life". 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂🕊

This is the third love letter to their fans they have written. "Smile", "About Us" and now "Memorable". The lyrics to "Smile" are about seeing the fans from the stage being happy - "Your smile makes me happy", "I have a perfect view". "About Us" is almost an apology that they couldn't tour (covid) and that they miss us, and will see us once again in the future. "Memorable" share their feelings of love they felt after their US tour. It's impossible not to love these beautiful people, they are more than just mere rock stars and musical geniuses! The world is a better place with them in it.

The band was so appreciative of the love and support they received from the fans during the 2022 US Tour and was inspired to write us another love song. Kanami composed the beginnings of this song during the tour on the tour bus and finished it when they got back to Japan to have it ready to debut it for their big TOKYO GARDEN THEATER concert. Hard for many who attended their concerts to listen to this song without shedding a tear knowing that it's their sincere message of love and appreciation to us.

This song, was written while the Ladies were on their last US tour. The crowd sounds at the beginning was supposedly recorded by Kanami at one of their concerts, on her cell phone. That being the sound they hear back stage before their entry music starts. Giving a slight allegory of this song as how they felt and progressed through their last tour. I cannot remember who said it, but in a few interviews the Ladies, especially Saiki had mentioned being apprehensive about resuming touring through the US. Feeling that maybe they as a band had been forgotten. It was when they finally walked out on stage and felt the love from their fans, that the Ladies overcame their fears, and the felt the love of their fans. And they love us right back. Hence this song.. Kanami started writing it after how the fans went hog wild for MISA"s birthday, they realized just how much they as a band meant to us their "Masters and Princesses". After she finished her rough demo, she played it for the rest of the band on their tour bus. The other Ladies loved it and fleshed it the rest of the way out, while Miku and Saiki wrote the lyrics. It was completed in less than 2 months and performed live for the first time at their January 9th concert at the Tokyo Garden Theater. I was unable to watch that performance until later, but I will tell you that as I did hear it for the first time, I felt as if my soul had been touched by their music. Personally and intimately.

The feelings and meaning behind this song, and a couple others, Smile and About Us, are a good part of why this band has such a devoted fan base. They and their fans are of one piece, each loves and appreciates the other. That they are such accomplished musicians, composers, arrangers, is the other part. Both together in one band is the miracle that rarely happens. First time in my somewhat long life anyways. Edit. The songs that first attracted me to Band-Maid were Play and Choose Me. They are rock songs that made me smile and head-bang at the same time. That was different from most any music I'd heard in decades. That alone was enough for me to be a fan and purchase their music. Then I came across something different from them. The acoustic version of Puzzle brought tears of sadness to my eyes even before I looked up the lyrics. Not many singers and songs have done that to me. And then I heard Smile and About Us and they brought tears of joy, the best kind. Memorable is in that vein. This is something I've never experienced from a song outside of a few at Christmas time, I'm only comparing my response in this not the music itself. It takes a special talent and persons to evoke that kind of emotional response in so many people.

Band maid is their own genre Jon, they do what they want, when they want, and they do it better than anyone.. That is their greatest appeal.. They have songs for every mood, an absolute gem of a band that just gets better and better with every song they do.. You must go back a bit.. So many great songs.. I have been listening to them for several years now and have heard pretty much every thing they have released, I still haven't heard one I don't like.. There are only two bands I can honestly say that about, and they are both Japanese.. Great reaction Jon Best wishes from France.

Add in a great vocal lead singer in Saiki and the combination of Akane's drums and MISA's bass playing...what more do you need to be happy....maybe seeing them live...lol Thanks, Peace and Respect from Canada

Something I adore in Miku's lyric writing and vocals is the little add-ons she incorporates, Manners - ha ha ha ha ha , Black Hole - rat a tat tat tat, Influencer - La la la la la and Surrender love held by both Saiki and Miku near the end. Now in this song 'This Time'. It's not just what she sings , it's the placement which is always perfect.

Never any need to apologize for not noticing stuff with these ladies - it's one reason they're so fantastic - there's too much awesomeness going on at once to take in. Here's my take on the song - which others have already said a lot of, I know. At least today I'm not using up all of my Kleenex. I think to fully appreciate this song, it helps to have been a maidiac for a while, and see, starting with the 2020 cancellation of what would have been the band's biggest show ever, how the diehard maidiacs, combined with the huge work ethic of the band, managed to keep their momentum up during a time where other bands would have had to just fold up the shop and call it quits. These ladies have worked their rear ends off not just to make incredible music, but to connect with their fans at every possible turn. Every other song has a sing along part - there's Miku's magic time in the shows, and even the fact that they didn't try to police reaction videos - in fact, they wisely welcomed them as they realized the value of spreading the word about the band. There is the uplifting, smile inducing and inspirational nature of their music and lyrics, which kept many of our spirits up during a really crap couple of years. Then there is their humility. More than once during interviews band members have said that they won't quite believe their shows sold out until they see us in person - will we really come, they wondered...and then they came. And they were hit by a massive tsunami of love at every single show. I am in my sixties and have been to a ton of concerts, and have never witnessed this level of back and forth emotion during a show. i've said elsewhere that when I put my earplugs in at their show, it was because of how loud the cheering from the crowd was, and I've never experienced that before. This must have been overwhelming to them as they played for us,. I've been on stage playing in front of people before, and there's a high you get when things go well that you just can't get with anything else. This song is their message back to us that yes, they felt it all - big time. And that they love us back

Hahaha... I just realized that Jon is too new a fan to be crying over this song. He wouldn't quite catch the significance of this song the way that Wave Potter and Ryan Mear did, hence he wasn't all emotional on it. Therefore, he actually caught many of the nuances of the song that reactors and fans like us could not! I admit, that I'm actual thankful for this!! So, thank you Jon, for this excellent analysis. Somewhere in the future, you would become too much of a fan to be able to do this, but for now, please enjoy your obliviousness 😛
