One of their heaviest songs yet, there is an Acoustic live version of this with just Saiki and Kanami. Same song, but undeniably and beautifully different. Whether you do a reaction or not, it's well worth a listen. Could listen to you talk about BAND MAID all day. Thanks.

Excellent reaction! The song is about a woman that's in a relationship with a married man where she'll never be number one and the heartache that follows. The acoustic version, with just acoustic guitar and vocals really hits harder emotionally.

Your 5th element (passion, joy) is indeed palpable at one of their shows. They feed off of the crowd, and when I saw them at one of their "one man shows", the crowd basically started at 10 out of 10 to begin with. Then the maids started playing, and the needle was pinned for the night. The crowd itself was so loud I needed earplugs, and they do such an fan-interactive show anyway, it's just a massive party. Do not miss one of their shows, if you get the chance.

It's been said the Band Maid teaches you HOW to listen to music. I've enjoyed listening to them for years, but not being a musician, they are the first band that has made me ask, "Why do I enjoy listening to them?". Your reactions to Band Maid greatly help in answering that question. After listening to your comments, I go back and listen to the song again and start to understand a little bit more each time. Thanks!

Akane (dr) and MISA MISA MISA (ba) were schoolmates. MISA MISA MISA is also known as "the barefoot assassin" as she plays barefoot so she can feel the drumbeats through the stage. Her and Akane are always locked. Kanami is the composer and as long as that metronome Akane is playing she will never make a misstep either. The relationship is the essence of BAND MAID.

I have seen so many rock bands (starting with Iron Maiden / Quite Riot), none of those compare to the connection I have with Band-Maid. Very difficult to describe and my friends generally think I'm obsessed or nuts :). Thanks for the great reaction. Refreshing to see puzzle again instead of the newbie trend of suggesting Hate. Love all Band-Maid music but am appreciating some of the older tunes that many BM fans havent heard yet. These ladies have a long list of great songs and love when new Band-Maid fans discover them instead of rehashing on the popular trends of the day. Either way, the word "disappointment" should never be used in the same sentence with Band-Maid unless used as a "disappointment" for not hearing "ANY" song they've done. Your reaction format is something many reactors should take notes on how to do it right. Again, great reaction.

I just discovered you today and I have to say that you are like me. I'm a 52 year old metal head who when I found Band-Maid I was BODYSLAMMED and I was honestly gobb-smacked. The more I heard them I became more "sucked in" I don't know that I have ever heard a band that was so complete on every level. Everything about this has me infatuated. I wish I understood Japanese because I think that would take this to another level. I missed them here in the US by a month, I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting them to come back and it will probably be 2025. Misa is a bass goddess, Akane is a gorilla drum goddess. I can't get over how much they sync with each other and seem to enjoy doing what they do and love their fans.

As with a lot of rock and metal bands, many of BM's heavier numbers are in E flat or D (below the open bottom E string of a 4 string bass), and Misa has been using that B-string on her bass to great effect ever since she started using a 5 string a couple of years (and albums) after Band-maid formed. I fckn LOVE it!

One thing BM has no problem with is using automation with vocal doubling, parallel harmonizers/vocalizers, and the like on both Saiki and Miku to make those rich and layered vocals live. For me, it really makes the sound. The gear available nowadays is so good live, it makes harmony tracks nearly obsolete.

There’s some footage out there of them doing a tiny. bit of Master of Puppets. I’m sure a lot of people would be annoyed if they were seen to be copying other rock and metal bands but it would be awesome if they did kind of a cover medley during a concert. If they kept it instrumental it would avoid the language issue…

I recently saw Puzzle from the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concert (for the millionth time ;-) and as I occasionally email Band-Maid management, the Studio Coast performance, sound, and vibe is 20% better than The Garden concert -- and that concert is better than 90% of most other concerts. I guess they just wanted to promote their release of the Garden concert, which is something all Band-Maid fans should think about getting -- especially with that 90 minute, behind-the-scene, 2022 USA tour DVD/BD. I’ve seen it and it’s a fascinating look into the Maids lives on the road. Thx, Eric!

Great reaction and the AC/DC riff is probably now in everyone's DNA. Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid again and yes, they have been improving every year, especially during the pandemic where in Japan everyone was locked down tight and the girls went into extreme practice mode, focused on improving their skills. When they started touring again in 2022 in the U.S, they had some issues getting back into the touring mode, Kanami suffered from exhaustion during their second to last show. But now they are on fire again and their last show for 2024 was a 3.5 hour, 33 song concert to close out their 10th anniversary tour.

Absolutely ACDC. Kanami's favorite guitar players are Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton Ritchie Kotzen and and she has mentioned a handful of others. But, I think kanami in her heart likes Dirty rock ( ACDC, Gun's and Roses, etc.) on a number of songs I especially like, Miku's spotlight song Rock in Me. Kanami Misa and Akane really bring their rock girl chops on this. They need an official live version of this.

So my main reason I watch your reacts to Band-Maid is because you're old school radio guy. I was born and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio with, in the beginning was WNCR...then when WNRC went off the rails WMMS carried the torch. The days when a DJ would come on in the evening and say, "Man have I got a great album for you to listen to", then proceed to play the entire album from start to finish. BJF Bash was my favorite because he started every show with Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" ...without fail, I think he came on at 2am. THE golden days of real ROCK radio, not like the current lame-ass Clear Channel radio monopoly. Don't ask me what I think of them, I might give the answer that you want me to...."Oh Well, kind of...Lol! you'll get that one. Keep up the great work Eric, I look forward to every Band-Maid reaction of yours. You're gonna LOVE the new drops of Band-Maid from their last show of their 10th Anniversary show from Yokohama Arena Nov '23, with regards to Saiki's vocals and commanding performance. The girls were all on fire, very impressive. Stay Well!

Spent middle school in Bedford listening to Kid Leo on MMS! My cousin was a Rock Girl and would do promotional stuff with them. She ended up becoming really good friends with Eddie Money's wife! I interviewed at WMMS back in the 90's but they were only looking for weekend/fill in and I wasn't moving for a part time gig, I don't care what station it's on. Plus, it's Clear Channel! And I do get the "Oh Well" reference! If you're a REAL rock station, you play the 11 minute Peter Green live version! Cheers, Eric

I think the original version is even better. Though BAND-MAID consider themselves to be Hard Rock, Metal certainly are among their many influences. But there are much more Metal influences than 'Puzzle'. In facet, there's an acoustic version of 'Puzzle. If you're a Metal guy try 'Black Hole', 'Different' or 'Rinne'. Or even the song that was commissioned for the season two closing theme for the Netflix anime, Kegan Ashura, 'Shamble's. It's pretty heavy. There is a LIVE version but I recommend the OMV.
