Good job as per usual Champ, maybe as penance for your T-shirt gaffe I suggest Band-Maid "Choose me" double feature Studio and Live for your sin. Suggestion for your reviewing/reacting ideas, Japanese Horror and gore fest movies like Tokyo Gore Police, Battle Royale, Rinne (Reincarnation), Deathnote, Grudge, Ring etc, that's if you haven't seen them already!

This is why we say that this is currently the most versatile band in the world. There is no genre or style of rock that they are not capable of composing and playing. And yet what makes them truly unique is that their music can only be classified within the new Band Maid Rock genre.

Yes, there's two attitudes I really love: Kanami power stance and Akane head down when she enter blast mode (it's even more obvious live: on their Shibuya bluray, they open the concert with a short intro and then right into Rinne and at that moment A-chan lowers her head). Oh, and Miku's lateral twin tail headbanging too.

I think this could stand as the ultimate rock song of all time. The drumming ( as usual) is beyond exceptional matched by Misa's bass and Miku. The drive is superb, hard and tight and Kanami her usual mind blowing inventive best. Stairway to Heaven? Never!!!

The way they always change things up within the song, never repeating verse structure, and use 4 or 5 different riff, break, bridge and run ideas where each one could be the bases for it's own song... all wrapped around a memorable chorus and multiple solos by different members while Saiki's vocals focus the experience into a cohesive force with Miku's lyrics and backups, makes Kanami and the gang genius songwriters and musical executioners, imxo.

This particular song is right over at the grunge end of their spectrum. If I was asked to name the most “typical” Band-Maid, this certainly wound not be it. At moments like this i wish K-pop did more for me than it does, because i do like a champ of medium reaction video and this one has all the hall marks of a good Champ reaction video. 8 sec into the song "I'm gonna start this over....it's not loud enough..." 29 sec into the song, after explaining what he hears going on and the whys, wherefores and how good it is "I don't know how i feel about it yet guys....." Then "...really digging the bass, I don't know how i feel about the rest yet" 1:06 into song and he "...really like the chorus..." 1:08 the sound clears up and he starts talking about a second time round 1:15 stops to make a point about tuning 1:20 now he's got his head round it properly, back to the beginning. This is what reaction videos should be. Lots of stops to explain what the reactor thinks and feels and background knowledge that the viewer may or may not have.

I'm one of those classic rock guys (60s through 80s) that fell in love with Band Maid. I think a lot of it is they have a lot of blues at their core. There are a lot of classic bluesy elements in their riffs and watching their live videos...it is evident they really feel the music. When you get around to reacting to Choose Me...I suggest the MV over the live...a little better mix and Saiki looks great in the MV.

People seem to have a hard time categorizing this band. Harder than hard rock, not quite metal. So I thought about, what's the hardest mineral? Band-Maid should be put in their own category...Diamond Rock...because they're unique, beautiful and they fucking shine under the lights of the stage.

Not a Dual Lead. There may be two parts for the recording but they're both Kanami. Kanami does all the parts for the recordings. She may have double it, but on the part that sounds like the tape rewinding, it's all her. If you watch the Live-To-Tape version she's doing the lead and Miku does the rhythm. You'll see Miku doing the little slides in the middle, but it's still all Kanami on the recording. It's just more efficient for her do do the recording and then teach it to Miku, I'm glad you came around on the intro. It's supposed to be raw, which is why it's shot on 8mm film instead of HD Video.

Don't understand where everyone is getting this idea this song, or any song they make is a reaction to people saying they are going soft or poppy. They have had varied songs, soft, hard, whatever the hell you label it, they have done it since they started. And no, the label is/was not trying to make them go pop.
@Outfrost
@Outfrost 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really don't understand people's apparent disappointment over 'start over' or 'endless Story', for example. Every song that this group has put out there is fantastic in its own way, and I'd say, in my personal opinion, those 2 pieces are much more interesting and exceptional than quite a few songs on World Domination or Just Bring It. Not purely 'better', just, different, in a good way.

That’s not true in the slightest... Band Maid fans need to stop pretending that the band doesn’t like non-rock songs. Kanami herself, the main composer, listens to a lot of j-pop. They’ve had ‘soft’ songs since their beginnings and still write ‘soft’ songs themselves because they like it. Period.

@@sceif I don't think he's assuming you are one of the people that think like that. There are people that think some of their songs are too poppy, but Rinne or any other heavier song is not the band reacting to these critics to prove them wrong. Their first mini album was jrock/jpop, since then they have been hard rock on a varying scale, along with some ballads and softer songs. They write what they want, they aren't trying to prove anything to anyone, but maybe themselves when they say they continue to push themselves individually for things they haven't done before

Kanami's skill in arranging guitar parts and layers is astoundingly intelligent, and every little part works great. Kanami and Miyako from Lovebites are the modern trend setters and composer/arrangers in the Japan scene, which is overflowing to the west now. If those 2 ever write a song together, I feel like the musical universe would explode.

I totally agreed while you mentioned about how these girls putting a lot of 60's and 70's Rock vibes in their song's. We can hear and feels there are bluesy, rock N roll and even jazzy sound in their song which make's Band Maid sound to us Maidiacs. The swarming bees sounds of Kanami Micho 3rd part lead there, reminds me of 'Sting of The Bumblebee' a bass solo by Joey Demaio of Manowar and 'Flight of The Bumblebee' the most famous orchestral interlude written by Nikolai Rimsky-Karsakov. Kanami Micho has done brilliantly on her homework!! 🔥🎸🔥

I enjoy very much AC-DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and a lot of '70s hard rock music, also Heavy Metal from the '80s and his variations (start listening in the lates '90s, not an original old rocker). Band-Maid bring back a lot of the fantastic feelings of those "discoveries" and that make these ladies my favorite rock band today. I'm not a fanboy, I don't think they are "the best band in the world" or something like that, but they connect with the feelings in a lot of music lovers and bring happiness to them, to me.

It seems to me that it is good that you continue around jRock and KPop, there is a lot of theme there. As an idea, how about comparing a new topic with one from the past? Today's Metallica reference has been excellent, maybe a two song combo would be interesting to compare songwriting styles.

This video was released after they received some criticism on conqueror for going too "soft". Pretty good answer , I think. I am looking forward to your new schedule. As far as new idea, have you considered getting a discord up and running? I think it would be helpful.

Sorry to hear you got laid off. For Japanese music to listen to, I'll admit to not having the widest library to pull from, but It'd be cool to see you revisit some Lovebites, especially some of their live stuff. Also, Doll$Boxx and Unlucky Morpheus are both amazing, if very different, bands that share a lead singer (her name is Fuki and she's sung in a lot of bands, all of them fun).

Thank you for reacting to this song. Love Band-Maid. I love another band more now though and that is Nemophila! I would recommend Oiran to start and then Dissension for originals. They also have done covers that are just amazing and they have so much fun doing them.

...some of us didn't completely hate St. Anger. I feel like it was a necessary stage Metallica had to go through to actually grow up and start making some music. >.> I was dying as you led right up to the quick slide-stings in the second verse over and over, only to rewind again, but we got there in the end. :)

It's not nice to hear that you've been laid off... Somehow, the last lines of the lyrics of this song might fit. 'It's sink, or swim'. And i'm pretty sure you're not one of those who will go under. I'll keep my fingers crossed that whatever path you take from here will be successful. 🤞🏻 I'm really looking forward to your video about my favorite 'Daydreaming' and your opinion about the song. Until then, have a good one 🤘🏻 【 'Our rock never dies, ever. Forever!' - Band-Maid 】

Woohoo!! I'm been looking forward to your take on this one. I'm surprised you didn't comment on Kanami's power stance at 6:11 - she looked like she was having a blast playing this. :) Also, you talking about a couple of notes that you thought Kanami was making at 6:30 - were those from Miku like she was making at 7:45? Anyway, I appreciate your analysis, it goes into a lot of detail and information that I wouldn't know/understand otherwise. I know that you've hit a lot of the common Band Maid videos, but there are still more out there! Please keep going with them. Sorry to hear about the job, but happy you look at it as an opportunity. Can't wait to see where the channel goes!!

i couldn't explain it, but i think MISA's playing is a big factor keeping a foot in the rock circle. always doing her own groovy thing down low.. or up high as is often the case. major point for me about this song, is its place and presence on the Conqueror album. it's downright scary in light of the rest of the entire album.

This song reminds me of the band Ash and the song 'petrol' for whatever reason... If you're gonna branch out the Jrock content might wanna have a go with the band *Nemophila* soon(just go with their latest *Dissention* 🙂 )

That was Miku "chirping" her guitar halfway through, I thought you were going to go back to it. Next to Akake's Flurry Feet, it's my favorite part of the song.

As mentioned by others, around the time it was suggested that some fans were critical of their slower stuff. So they reacted with a shut up song. As you said about the nostalgia value of much of their music. That is what draws me in. Music had become very stale until I fell across Band Maid. I would say I was sorry about your news but frankly I had the best time when not going to work even with no money....Suggestions for possible ideas, music from different decades, from the 60s up to the present day, prog rock, hard rock, rock with writing through it. Anything. Anyway good luck. Another informative review.

Any intention to react to audio only, like you did with Unseen World? I would recommend Beauty and the Beast, I think it is one of the most "japanese" songs they have, but also with other elements in extreme contrast to it.

At last, I've been waiting for this one, as for the statement that "it wasn't right up there", I agree at first listen but the more you play it the more you like it, also the back story. Now an idea for your channel why don't you do something like K-pop throwback Thursday and listen to some old groups that made K-pop popular in the beginning like 2NE1, 4MINUET, (F)X and maybe VIXX.
