This is the best hard rock band on the planet today bar none. Amazing band. Amazing talent. Sacramento loves Band-Maid. So do I. They are the first band l have cared about since four guys from Liverpool called it quits officially in 1970. That is a long fucking time. Viva Band-Maid.

Lots of good and really succesful band had/have gimmicks. KISS had the facepaint and weird clothes. ZZ top have their beards. Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson both have this "scary" gimmick -but few people would claim they wouldnt be anything without the gimmick. Sure, then there are some bands that only gimmick and no talent, but those generally doesnt survive very long. As for Band-Maid, the idea wasn't just "I wanna make a band" but "I wanna make a band that dresses in Maid outifts" -hence the name. The maid outfits are not only sexy and cute, but also brings up the contrast of the subserviant servant that plays hard rock. So I dont think the maid gimmick is silly but actually pretty deep.

Band Maid is just thunder and lightning. With a side of thunder. Drummer kills. Base kills. Guitar kills. and vocal pretty good.

Next should be "onset", just awesome can say.

My favorite Band Maid song is Secret My Lips. It's just an awesome rocking jam. The official music video is great, and there is also a April Fools day alternate version you could check out afterward if you wanted.

The costumes and band "image" seems to be a big part of the Japanese music industry. Nearly every Japanese band I've seen has some kind of costume, style, or look that represents the band. Some would say its a "gimmick" but in Japan its just part of the show. It also makes the bands easy to identify. If you see a poster in the distance with 5 women wearing maid outfits then you know its probably Band Maid even if you can't read it. You see a metal poster here in the US with 5 guys wearing jeans and black t-shirts, no clue who it is, lol. Great reaction as always. Hard to go wrong with Band Maid. If you want to change things up a little check out "Daydreaming". A little slower, almost a ballad, but has very interesting change ups. It also really shows off Saiki's vocals.

You can do a double react - Band Maid has a great song called "Secret my Lips" (one of my favs) and then did a April fools version dressed as Maiko's (apprentice Geishas apparently) under the name Band Maiko and renamed the song "Secret Maiko Lips" with some variations (which I won't spoil) to the original.

Hey a great reaction. How often do you ever see a duel between the bass and the guitar!!! These women are serious musicians who have great chemistry and a real non-ego band that really look like they push each other but each is given their time to shine. The balance in the songs amazes me and no I don't speak Japanese but I know a great musician and a great song when I hear one and LIVE is the ultimate test these days and these women are NOT auto-tuned sterilized studio packages like so many out there today. You can go and really experience the band not merely hear them. I just found these ladies and they are fantastic, they just smashed the boys club and kicked some serious &*%&*. They have got me sharing listening time with X-Japan, Sugizo and Luna Sea. Babymetal's band is very good but this band is great!!!

It's unfortunate that whenever there is a TOP 10 Guitar or Bass player list put together, they are ALWAYS from North America and England. These so-called music critics can't seem to get out of their own neighborhoods.

In relation to their costumes. We tend to forget that they are Japanese, they come from the Cosplay country, where they manage a public personality and a private one without apparent conflict. The majority of Japanese bands are based on a theme, with a very careful aesthetic, which they maintain over time. And its majority audience is mainly Japanese.

I know plenty of people who have dismissed Band-Maid and Babymetal straight off because of the gimmicks. I don't understand why people make enjoying music or any art form so complicated. It's not hard. If you like it, it's good. If you don't like it, move on. Gimmicks have nothing to do with the actual talent on the stage.

They are from Japan. Stop looking at them as though they were from the west. They are not. There are meanings in there that are not readily apparent to most from the west. And further, for this is really a punk band at heart, if they came out just dressed "normally" the whole shock dynamic would evaporate. Miku wants people to initially to form an opinion based on their look and then be blown away by the contradiction of the blistering hard rock. Kiss, Slipknot and several others are in costume for reasons far less substantial than Band-Maid. Miku used to have to wear that maid uniform at her minimum wage job at Maid Cafés in Japan. Partly, she wears it to remember where she came from and reinforce her desire to never have to go back.

Check out the music video for Domination. Really cool music video. And at one point in the song, they go FULL METAL \m/. It's like they downshift to a lower gear and just take off. And I guess now it's a good time to check out their latest music video: Start Over. By now you got a pretty good idea on their music style. But Start Over is something else. So make sure you check it out. And oh, maybe change the band's logo in your video? The one you use is their old design. The new one is the bow in the style of the Metallica font.

They're appearance is no more ridiculous than say, Kiss or the way Peter Gabriel used to dress up. No sillier than all the tattooed, black leather groups. Hair bands. How about Stryper? I have no problem at all with any of the getups these gals wear. The Beach Boys in the early days. The Beatles wearing their little suits with ties. It goes on and on. Double standards abound.
