Oh hey yeah, Jonathan caught that! Ms. Goldenweek's painting skills aren't a Devil Fruit. They're a stronger form of hypnosis like Jango used back in the Syrup Village arc. Functional hypnosis is just a learnable skill in this story. Guess the clear distinction is Jango's only works by looking at his pendulum while Goldenweek's paint works on anyone as long as she can tag them somehow. Emotion paint could easily have been a fruit ability, and I flipflop between thinking it's cool that it isn't and silly that it isn't all the time.

Miss Golden Week doesn't have a devil fruit she's just a really good artist that she can hypnotize anyone she paints on, it might seem supernatural but she is using nothing but a brush and paint.

Pacing: there are points where it's undeniably an issue, but the frequency and degree depends on why you're watching. If you're just in it for the fights and other action, there will be a lot of pacing issues. If you're in it for the characters - the thing that makes the action and outcomes more impactful - there will be significantly fewer. It helps that you don't have to go week to week.

Alabasta is the second Saga in one piece. It covers the reverse Mt arc, whiskey peak, Little Garden, drum island and the Alabasta Arc. Just so happen that the name of this second saga is the last arc that they will visit in this saga since the whole story revolves around the conflict in the alabasta arc .. reverse Mountain seemed like its not supposed to be part of it because of the laboon story but this is the arc where Vivi and Mr.9 were introduced

Since y'all mused over the pacing of the story, and a lot of people telling you things don't ever move as fast as Whiskey Peak again, I'll say that the general pace of the anime as you are experiencing it now, generally remains consistent, though any given plot point or episode might drag depending on the viewer. I myself think ep 74 which y'all just watched here is the most "we're just filling up airtime on the tv" episode that isn't a bad filler episode for like three hundred episodes. Take that as you will. Its first major slowdown happens vaguely in the 400s, and further slows down to its slowest in the 600s which is very far away, before picking back up again to the relatively faster previous 400s standard at some vague point I will not mention.

Luffy's face when he gets something is one of my favourite things, ie the way he got that fighting Dorry was the only way to stop him, and the apology he makes just before launching him is just beautiful man. Great comedic timing by Brannon at 09:30, because yeah, "broke his nose again."🤣🤣 Again, Oda has done such a great job at romanticising dreams, promises, honour, pride, and vows that as Zach points out, " taking away someone's dreams is worse than death," is a thing we as the viewers have completely bought into, emotionally so even. It is not something we process as ridiculous, as a result. And it is two of the three Strawhats who have embodied this sentiment from the beginning, who are the most visibly upset about Broque Works ruining this romantic duel, Luffy and Usopp. Mr 3's fruit has a lot of usage, and I love what it sets up in terms of Devil fruits and their usage. It took Oda 2 years to do East Blue in the manga, while anime did it in about half a year.. so that will give you an idea of their position relative to each other since then.

While some Devil Fruit powers might seem inexhaustible, using them still takes a toll on your energy over time. Guess that's why Luffy eats so much... But of course, when it comes to specific information about them... we'll learn more details later!

These are great episodes. The creativity for devils fruits never stops! So many differnet ones! Especially Miss. Goldenweek, it's the first non offensive devil fruit and to see how she uses it is pretty cool. We're in a tough spot right now! Oh, and yes, my boy Ussop tanking all those hits! That's why he's the best!!!!

The fight scenes usually drags on quite a bit and usually happens in the middle of the arcs. In almost every arc. It never changes. Luckily, the beggining and endings of the arcs make up for it though, it really is a slow burn adventure and still very very enjoyable ;D In my opinion, the pacing only becomes unbearable after the episode 600s.

Yeah, Miss Golden Week has no devil fruit, she's kinda like Jango with hypnosis. It's weird, but aside from people with DF (like Luffy) and super strong regular humans (Zoro and Sanji), there are characters that simply manage to develop crazy abilities. Mr 3 is so annoying but i always liked this fight with him and Miss Golden Week, where brute force wasn't enough to win.

1:40 - agreed, the pacing of One Piece is very subjective. for some it's maddeningly slow and for others it is equally fast. personally i rarely have issue with the pacing because i enjoy the Anime a whole lot, but i've also seen far worse pacing. so rather than listen to the opinions about the pacing, you should just come to your own conclusions as you move along.
