This is a demonstration and explanation of how the early 1900's historic foghorn worked. The foghorn is located on a private Island with a lighthouse located in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. Visit ebls.org to book a bed & breakfast night over and a personal demonstration of this historic foghorn.

And just think, at night that is how ships were informed of where the land was. All night long that engine and compressor would be operating until first light. So much progress and so much simplier.

My wife and I spent the night at this Lighthouse and that dam thing went off every 60 secs!!! Ever try to fall asleep in 60 secs before having a foghorn blow off right below your bedroom window? WOW! What an experience to say the least. If you ever stay there, bring earplugs, earphones, ear wax, and a well insulated helmet if you want to get any sleep!!! lol~ Seriously though, we had a great time at this place and we learned a ton! It was awesome.

Well if that's all that comes out of posting this, then it was worth all the time and effort. :-) Now that you know, you should take a trip out there with your favorite girl and do a night over to experience it for yourself. I think you'd enjoy it.

We spent the night there and the "regularly scheduled" fog-horn was right beneath our guest room window. The only downside is that it goes off every 60 seconds. 24 hours a day! Yikes!! lol~

Me too! I wanna go back and stay here again, but this time I'll get the room furthest from the normal foghorn that goes off every 60 seconds. 24/7/365. Our last time we stayed here, the foghorn was right outside our bedroom window!?!? That was CRAZY!!! ALL NIGHT LONG!!! lol~

Good Video. I could start that Cat in a skinny minute, having grown up in the age of pony motors starting Cat equipment. They started just like the older Harley-Davidson bikes, but with a rope instead of a kick.

Brad Andersohn Great! I really enjoyed your video. There is a KZfaq video over 90 minutes long with the foghorn sounds that I love to hear -- it brings me serenity and mental clarity. Perfect for times when the world around me gets too "jangly." Seeing the apparatus in operation is like going to Bethlehem.

Noe Berengena being able to have an impact on others lives and people we don't even know or may never meet is one of the coolest things about the world wide web and KZfaq. Those of us who use these tools to connect with others just like you and I know exactly what I mean. Way Cool!! I'm humbled and honored to have made your acquaintance Noe, thanks for making my day. BTW - that foghorn in this video went off every minute (60 seconds) and was right outside our bedroom window. You should try to make it to the East Brothers Station and spend the night, it's a real kick! :-)

When you're video recording an event, next time please record the subject itself. When you went outside for the horn, you panned the cam at people. Keep the subject in frame, not people. I don't care to see a bunch of people.

Capt. Christopher Taylor - we thought is was interesting too considering it was the old school way of warning the ships in the Golden Gate Bay Back in the day. Believe me, we had no idea what to expect?!?! Lol~ What’s funnier is that we spent the night on that lighthouse island and the horn warning sounds every 60 seconds. The horn that sounds was right outside our bedroom window!!!! Really?? Really!! Now you know why we drank!!!! True story :)
