This makes me miss my poodle so bad. After leaving the groomers she always knew she looked good, and would strut around like “look at me, I’m attractive”... funniest and best dog I ever had.

Mine as well, also gone many years ago. I'd bathe her weekly and she would show off to every member of the house, she'd only leave if you said: "oh, you've showered! So pretty!"

You are so good at this!! When I band my poodle’s hair, there are always little strands sticking out. I did get better though today. Practiced, and the banding was almost perfect.

I would like to add a VERY IMPORTANT WARNING FOR OWNERS OF POODLES ! The bands can be forgotten in the busy rush in the grooming industry ! Several years ago my dog almost lost her foot because the groomer forgot to remove the ankle band . My dog’s foot started swelling and she couldn’t walk on it. The groomer never accepted any blame , when i took her back. Even the store’s affiliated vet told me she must be acting out for attention ! Her foot was clearly swollen ! I took her home , it continued to swell and then it began to sweat BLOOD . I decided to take her to the closest emergency vet and she had to sedate her , shave her ankle and foot before she had to surgically remove the embedded rubber band ! The vet tokd me she may still lose her foot , it will take a few weeks to determine the degree of damage from lack of blood supply . I was so relieved and yet still so very worried . After a couple of days I went to speak with the store’s owner , he questioned the groomer again and the groomer denied a mistake, even though it was obvious ! This woman would have let my dog die to protect her mistake - unbelievable ! I did end up getting my vet bill reimbursed but the cold and irresponsible groomer kept her job. I was just pacified with my babies full recovery . It was a close call and all due to a band left accidentally on my babies ankle ! PLEASE please don’t allow groomers to band your dogs legs .

Denise Agre-Gill - On the contrary, it is you who is misinformed. Whiskers are not ordinary hair like a man's beard. Whiskers on a dog or cat, are antenna like the insects antenna. They are meant for picking up vibrations / sensory information and sending this to the dog's brain. They are useful with balance and a dog being able to feel his way without bumping into things, even without sight. Cutting them off is like taking away ears or nose or eyes. They are a tool for the dog. Our facial hair is no different from hair on head. But not whiskers on animals. Go do some reading on it. There is a lack of understanding on whiskers by the general public. Its almost as bad as cutting of ears and tails to make the dog conform to a picture in our heads as to how he should look. Cutting of a poodle's tail was considered normal a few years ago, or have you forgotten? We don't do that now, do we?

We just got a beautiful apricot standard poodle puppy and so I have a ton of learning to do. I did his face and it tuned out well! We won’t be showing but I want to keep him in a show coat anyways as he will be studded out. So the body is the difficult part for me D:

What’s the reason for banding?
@TheTarablee713
@TheTarablee713 4 жыл бұрын
Lulu Ramirez hi lula! You want to grow the hair out for showing the dog. The longer it gets, the dryer it gets and it tends to break . Also as they scratch or play it breaks. It gets in their eyes, it blows in the wind, it tangles and then you have to brush it out ... so it breaks. So the banding is basically to keep it from breaking and keep it out of the way.

Yes you should feel sorry for them. I sure do. The people who 'show' dogs obsessively groom them, and poor dog has to endure hours of sitting still while being poked, hair pulled, and whiskers shaved off (which is bad for them). Also have to endure hair in their face and overly long ears, staying indoors, making their dog pleasures impossible. This is like dressing up little toddlers in the Victorian days, and not letting them play like kids. People forget that the Poodle is a water retriever and hunting dog. It is used to going into the woods and swimming to get the bird that was shot down. Poodles need and love exercise. Making them sit for hours is really wrong. The whole business of 'showing' dogs is awful for the dog, but an ego trip for the owner. The money is made from stud services and puppy sales, so in addition to be primped, not allowed to play, and endure hours in a cage at the show and traveling, the female dogs have litter after litter of babies so owner can get money for them. The inbreeding also results in genetic weaknesses. Let a dog be a dog. Cut all that damn hair off and let him romp and swim as a dog should. This is another human neurosis to 'show' a dog. AKA should be cited for animal cruelty. A whole industry built on exploitation of dogs.

Poor dog. Her expression says it all, "How much longer do I have to endure this? I'm just humoring you, human!" I am not a fan of dog shows. They go to such extremes, this is not fun for the dog, esp poodles that are hunting dogs and very active. Made to look like frosting on birthday cakes. The AKC and dog shows should be banned like bull fights, and animal testing. Its a money maker where dog becomes a god, but cannot be a dog. You do love your dog, that shows. And I'm sure Bubbles gets very good care and food, as it shows too. Thank you for being a good dog owner.

Lass-in Angeles AKC show dogs are some of the most pampered, well taken care of, cherished dogs that I know of. These dogs are kept in such good condition through regular grooming and training. We take pride in our dogs and the amount of time money and sweat we put into them. And yes I did say money we sink thousands of dollars into them there is no money to be made unless you are puppy milling or back yard breeding! A lot of pet owners are the real neglect/ abuse cases. We get dogs that come in only every 4 to 6 months, sometimes once a year matted to the skin they have to be shaved down sometimes with the surgical blade the matting is so tight peeling the pelts off the dogs bodies. Sometimes we find sores, skin issues, fleas, ticks even maggots in some cases and Infected puss filled ears! A lot of these people put vanity over humanity telling us they do not want their dogs shaved down they would rather the dogs endure hours of dematting and brushing pulling and yanking on their skin hurting them so that they don’t have to look at their dog shaved down because of their neglect. Sometimes they even cut the mats out on their own and in the process slice the dogs skin open we have seen it many times! And what about all the people that buy that cute puppy in the pet store window funding and continuing puppy mills where bitches are bred heat after heat litter after litter exhausting them they are raised on chicken wire in their own feces and filth with matted pelted hair. Puppies ripped away long before they should be at five weeks old even and shipped off all around the country on 18 wheelers. So no, I don’t believe AKC show dogs are neglected or treated cruel at all! Mic drop!
@lass-inangeles7564

@@juliewilkinsgrooming Julie, I totally agree with you on every count. I've done a lot of rescue and horrified at owner's neglect of dogs. Even my neighbor has two small dogs and they are very neglected and I groom them whenever she lets me. I know you take excellent care of your dogs. I know that because I can see the way the dog is - calm, looks perfectly healthy, and is relaxed. Which tells me there are no stressors. The only issue I have with this industry - AKC and showing, is that dogs have to sport long hair, and cannot run in grass and fields like they were meant to. They are primped up, and groomed for hours. This is tiring for the dog. To do a poodle takes me 4 hrs at least. And this is an ordinary clip, and maintenance groom, ears, glands, clipping, bathing, nails, toes. To do a show dog takes several days of careful manicured cuts. A bit of a burden on a dog, no? However, like I said, show dog owners take excellent care of their pets and they spend a lot of money on their pets. You misunderstood this part. It is the AKC and the whole 3-ring circus of shows that is a huge money making industry and if it were not, dogs would not be shown. I still feel that dogs should not be shown. Its like putting kids in beauty pageants. They cannot be kids anymore,
@juliewilkinsgrooming
@juliewilkinsgrooming 5 жыл бұрын
Lass-in Angeles I can do a show coat in probably the same time it takes you to do a pet trim so how is it cruel? And I don't know what dogs you're talking about but my dogs go walking every day, go hiking with me, biking with me, boating, they play fetch at the park they love to retrieve they are very active they have to be to stay in muscle condition! They get more exercise than the obese couch potato dogs eating Alpo that I see every day. I support AKC and the preservation of the purebred dog and always will. And as far as AKC being a moneymaking circus, there is no money in dogs you just spend money kind of like horses it is a hobby and a passion. Dog people do not have money. After all the time and money you put into showing dogs you're lucky if you even break even after a litter of puppies. Please don't make me have to turn off the commenting on my videos.
