I truly love these videos. Please continue to post for us newbies! Im 20 years old and i work at Petco. I’ve been certified through them for a little over a year. we have a lot of poodles, bichons, yorkies, and shih tzus. I’ve slowly become the go to for poodles and bichons and I feel like I do a good job but your videos have helped me tremendously. One day I hope to have my own shop and be able to educate new groomers like you do!

Hi, I know this comment is pretty old, but I'm curious on your experience and what you're doing with grooming today? I'm 22 and I've been grooming for 3 years now. I would love to work as a groomer (I've had a few clients at home her and there) and just wanted to know how it's like for you in Petco/wherever you are now if you are still in the grooming profession. Thanks in advance, just in case you see this and respond :) ♡

Wow!! My wife is a groomer and bathe her dogs for her. And she wanted me to watch a video on fluff drying, and let me say that I am glad I chose to view this one. Thank you for putting up this video.

So educational. I didn't know any of this. My poodle is 6 years old and now after watching this I will maintain her coat more regularly and actually spend less money at the groomer. She hates the commotion of the whining, barking in the assembly line groomers. She is more calm when I pick her up at a private or one on one type of groomer establishment.

Thanks for the video it was very informative. After 35 years of showing and grooming Yorkies I acquired a poodle and I'm in the process of learning how to groom her properly. Just recently purchased a forced air dryer with variable speed/heat. I have to keep the force down as low as it will go otherwise I'll blow my 4 pound poodle off the table. Love your poodle decal on your headset.

B Cobler I would love for you to upload videos on your Yorkie grooming for show! There are so many poodle videos but it’s hard for me to find good yorkie grooming videos! I have both breeds too lol

CHloE748 , Sorry , at this time I do not have any Yorkies to demo grooming on. If you are interested in show grooming I would suggest going to as many dog shows as you can. Go to the grooming area and watch the different handlers groom their dog you can pick up a lot just by watching.

What a Gorgeous Poodle, my favorite dog breed. I’ve had a Toy and 2 Minis, would love a standard, but the knots are maddening, so I stick with the Poodle size I can take care of the best. They also need a lot of exercise and I don’t think I could keep up with a standard, but they are as brilliant as they are beautiful (All 3 Sizes) and very affectionate too.

I'm just a new, at home groomer with a standard poodle puppy. Watching your confidence during your videos really helps me to feel I can do this too. My silver beige Olive and I thank you. I have a question though... my little Olive is 5 months old now, and I've been shaving her face and feet since she was about 1 month old, so she's very good about letting me do it.... but her curls are coming in very slowly. I mean, some of her hair is just beginning to kind of tightly wave, but no curling yet. It's getting pretty long though, and I'm not really sure when I should attempt to cut her body, or even what poodle cut would look good on her with mostly straight hair. Do you have any suggestions? I've been putting this off because I really just don't know. Her hair does get fluffy, but there isn't enough coil to give it a sturdy fluffy look. Not sure about terminology, so hopefully this makes some sense. THANKS AGAIN! 🐩🐩🐩

@JeimiJamie5 жыл бұрын
@@juliewilkinsgrooming oooh, I didn't know that bit about trimming giving the coat better quality! I ended up trimming her down all over minus the head and tail. When I got to the head I couldn't bear to get rid of any of the cute shaggyness of it, so it's virtually untouched on the topknot and ears. I just kinda tried to blend it into the shorter hair on her neck. I tried to give her leg poms, but I started on the back feet and they looked like I used a butcher knife. The front poms are cute, but I hardly touched them. I just didn't realize how different and difficult it would be to do legit good looking poms for the first time hahaha... you make these things look way too easy! Fortunately I've got my own little fluffy puppy canvas for trial and error. Also, this experience made me realize just how important it is to perfect my scissoring technique. Thanks for your reply 😊😊😊

Thank you for this video! I know this is four years ago but recently have had to start grooming my own 12lb schnoodle because she's reactive and most of the groomers in my area don't want to take her. I've been able to mostly get the fluff drying down, however - we live in a humid area and eventually her coat starts to curl fairly quickly (within a few days). When she was younger (and not so reactive), she did have a fantastic groom where her coat stayed straight for almost a month. Do you think it was a product sprayed on to keep it straight for so long or mostly just the technique of the drying? Thank you in advance for any insight!
@juliewilkinsgrooming Жыл бұрын
It could be, you could try using some fluff out or a similar product. Or finish the drying with a handheld human dryer with some heat just to set the coat, that’s what we do with the show dogs.……

Thanks for all your videos they have helped me so much.

If I may, please allow me to explain how much time I save by doing that DREADED and FEARED thing called 'cage drying'. I only wish someone had told me about it many years ago when I was spending five to six hours hand-drying a champion Afghan Hound in a huge 'specials' coat. First of all, let me go on record by saying that I am not a huge fan of cage drying per se, although it is excellent for some breeds. When I have my poodle all freshly bathed and ready to be dried, this is how I save time: I pat the coat with clean, white, fluffy bath towels, and I try to remove as much water from the coat as possible. Do NOT rub the coat; pat and squeeze only. I place two or three layers of clean, white, fully towels on the metal floor of a large, wire crate. Once the dog is inside, I cover the entire crate with an Egyptian cotton sheet----although I feel certain a cotton/blend sheet from Dollar General would yield the same results. I place a cage dryer on the cage and set the volume at the lowest setting but with a 'medium' blower speed. I return to check the dog's status every 15 minutes. This method will work for each and every poodle.....but no TWO will achieve the same results. One coat might take only 35 minutes while another might take an hour. The 'key' is knowing WHEN to remove the dog from the crate and start drying it by hand. By trial and error, you will quickly learns how much time each individual dog requires before you crank up the floor-mounted dryer and finish the job. What we are attempting to do here is achieve the very SAME result as having spent 3-5 hours hand-drying a coat but letting the cage dryer do most of the work for us. I found I could easily cut 3+ hours off my hand-drying procedure by doing it this way. Time equals money, so you can see how having a 'spare' four hours in a day works for every dog groomer on the planet. Try this method just ONE time and see if it works for you.
@juliewilkinsgrooming2 жыл бұрын
If you want the coat properly prepped you cannot cage dry it all the way, however you can put them in the cage dryer for a little bit and then pull them out to finish them by hand :-)

This is probably a stupid question but don’t you worry about killing the curl for good? Like with people hair too much brushing and heat ruins the hair and will make it straight and damaged?

SO ITS TOO LOUD FOR THE LADY BUT NOT TOO LOUD FOR HER POOR DOGS THAT DO HAVE 7 TIMES THE HEARING POWER ???!!!!!????!! The dog coat looks beautiful but I also think the dog may be deaf by now. It's torture !

This is exactly why I show in the video how to pack cotton in the dogs ears for the dryer :-)

Almost a jet engine to dry the poor dog if you have to wear ear protection it’s too loud 👎

I loved how she talked while using the darn thing and you couldn't hear what she was saying.

You should always wear hearing protection. The accumulation over the years of noise will Definetly affect your hearing. Imagine 30 years of this. It's not too loud it is the amount of it.

I click here to learn more about going a better groom on my dog. But I can say I’d never put my dog through this. Just the length of time, geez. Pretty unfair and ridiculous.

Yeah, just keep your poor dog matted and in pain instead

There is simpler hair cuts a doggie can get that don’t require such careful fluffing. But a dog getting bathed and groomed is much healthier for them and their coats.

I can tell you as a bather we basically do this process for every single dog (at least the billion doodles we have as clients) that gets groomed to varying degrees. We teach our dogs to be calm for the drier and give breaks as needed at our salon.

LET THE DOG LIVE! I'M SURE SHE DOESN'T NEED TO BE BRUSHED WITH 100 DIFFERENT BRUSHES TO HAVE A HAPPIER LIFE !! THIS IS JUST SOOOO SAD.
