c: The micro adjustment for the speed is there for musicians who wish to alter the pitch slightly to play along with a record-If the quartz lock speed control is working properly the listener who wants to "play the record as it lays" will never use that feature...

I'm still using the original cartridge and diamond stylus from the 80's - although it wasn't used for over 20 years. The suspension in the cartridge had to be replaced, but the needle was fine. The problem with these is that the needle isn't replaceable without changing the cartridge - and the cartridges aren't made anymore by B&O. So you either have to have them rebuilt, or spend several hundred on an aftermarket replacement cartridge.

Fantastic danish design and engineering there. I own one myself, but it recently started acting wierd, not turning the platter. Will look into as soon as I can find the time. It's rather complicated to disassemble unfortunately. Nice to see a happy working example! :)

Many, many records, but good second hand pick-ups are hard to find. They have been out of production for some time now. Only Soundsmith (US) still makes them. They are expensive but espacialy "The Voice" is worth the money. I've bought a few B&O recordplayers for the pick-ups. Although the original pick-ups can be retipt it's still a bit tricky to buy them, because of the rubber suspention can be worn out or dried out. So there you have the main downside bying B&O: You can't mod them.

It doesn't find the individual tracks, just the start of the record.

I don't know how it sounds to start with, because when I got it hadn't been used in over 10 years - during which time the suspension deteriorated substantially. But when I got it, it sounded terrible. Some noise comes though, but it sounds horrible, staticy, and like you have a ground problem. That's the best way I can describe it. I imagine if it was in constant use, it would be a gradual thing.
