At a news conference on Monday, Elder Gong said he and his wife, Susan, first came to Bangkok 43 years ago. He was doing graduate studies in international relations with Oxford University.
“We are grateful Thailand allows religious freedom,” Elder Gong said. “In Thailand, more than 23,000 individuals and families are members of our Church. We are your neighbors and friends. Our weekly Sunday worship meetings are open to, and welcome, all. Our friendly congregations and meetinghouses are found across Thailand.”
The Apostle explained that Latter-day Saints believe in God, seek to create strong families and be good citizens.
“As good neighbors and good friends, we seek to be compassionate, kind and generous,” he said. “We help the poor and needy. For instance, we respond quickly when floods, natural disasters, or other community needs arise. For many years, our Church members have been privileged to work with the Royal Patronage Foundation. For example, our humanitarian service, training and assistance provide wheelchairs for the mobility impaired; neonatal training to help health care professionals save infants at risk; and needed water and wells in rural areas. Of course, no one group can do everything needed, but we can each do our small part.”

Temples are for every follower of Christ. Temples or types of temples, have been vitally important to us making and keeping eternally binding, sacred covenants & promises with God, so that we can be with him and loved ones forever! It started when the early patriarchs were commanded to build an alter, and make covenants with God. It continued when the Tabernacle of the congregation was built, with the ark of the covenant inside. Solomon's Temple was built, was destroyed, then was rebuilt. This Temple was used throughout Christs' ministry, and continued being used after his resurrection. Paul addressed the importance of the ordinances in the temple, when he spoke about baptism for the Dead. Though the temple was eventually destroyed by the Romans, thankfully we have many temples today, where we can bless our loved ones in.

Another House of the Lord to bless the people of the earth. I always loved Elder Bruce R. McConkie's statement “the day will come when temples will dot the earth”. Just look at a world map & all it's 'dots' of all Temples both completed & announced. My goal when I retired was to visit EVERY Temple. Now as Temples continue to "dot the land", it's not a possible goal. Woohoo! ⛪ 💖 🙏 🌎

Hi there, thanks for your comment! "Mormon" is an unofficial nickname of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, although we prefer "Latter-day Saints" or "members of the Church of Jesus Christ." "Mormon" is actually the name of an ancient prophet who abridged a historical and religious record that was later translated by Joseph Smith Book and published as the Book of Mormon. Members of the Church believe Jesus Christ is our Savior, we revere the Bible as the word of God, and we believe the Book of Mormon to be another testament of Jesus Christ. You can learn more about our beliefs here: www.mormon.org/beliefs/what-does-it-mean-to-be-christian#section3
