As you know international train fare is paid in dollars so Dhaka to Kolkata and Kolkata to Dhaka train fares are the same, only travel tax of Tk.1000 is added when leaving from Bangladesh. Which was Tk. 500 Three years ago. Train fares were also low at that time because the dollar rate was low. Then it cost Tk. 3600 in total. The single cabin that you have taken is actually a seat for three persons, not a sleeping seat. You are lucky that no one else took the seat. Here the upper seat does not count because it is a day train. Double cabins seat six persons. You can move outside the cabin, even other compartments but not outside the train.

When my friend and I traveled to India for the 2nd time in 2023, they took a bribe of 500 rupees from us. Similarly, many Bangladeshis were bribed with different amount of money. Because we don't have dollars with us.
