Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park

Жыл бұрын

On the 17th April the Brecon Beacons National Park will launch a bold management plan and a change of name to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, an old name for a new way of being. The new management plan looks at the world we need to create, down to visualising what our future landscape will look like if we are able to successfully adapt and thrive once again.
This film, written by Owen Sheers, and performed by Michael Sheen, was created to launch this exciting new era for the National Park. Read more about our future at future.bannau.wales

My granddaughter is a volunteer youth warden in the Bannau. The management plan is a wonderful opportunity to conserve this beautiful area and to put right the damage that has been done. She repairs gates and pathways, puts up bird / bat boxes and conserves peat bogs .We can all make a difference in small ways.👏👏👏

Same! & i hope more English people do the same, our history of colonialism is awful but maybe we can reduce that impact just a small ammount by embracing our former territories when they embrace their natural identity. @@Leroyturner720 Even if it was, wouldn't you agree that a nation has the right to be isolationist if that's the path they choose? Take the Brexit issue for example, I didn't vote for it, but a majority of English people did. THAT was called 'isolationist'. But I didn't cry or whine or dream of reversing the vote, because that was the course my country wished to pursue. Every nation must have the freedom to make their own rules, even if some don't like them.

they dont, the risk is to raptors and you don't have to use all horizontal turbines, there are others available you know, you can work in synergy with nature if you apply your mind, we also could be putting piston marine generators in the river severn and connecting minehead with rhoose over a causeway that would probably generate tonnes of energy (you cant do the barrage because it's one of the most critical bird feeding grounds.)

Where to start with this idiocy. If we don’t have renewable energy you are how can I put this…going to die. You’ll also see mass migration on a scale you’ve never seen before. No one is going to meet net zero, it is all a fantasy! Whichever way we are creating energy it is all involving fossil fuels in one way or another, even if it is cleverly hidden. Anyway, what is the problem? Fossil fuels are just that - a completely ‘natural’ product from decayed plant and other matter! We have been brainwashed by militant so-called ‘environmentalists’ to believe that fossil fuels are some deadly poisonous substance. No mention of sheep?! The elephant in the room. Sheep are not from Wales or even any part of Northern Europe. (They are a Middle Eastern ruminant introduced by the Romans. This is why their feet rot in our climate. They eat all the saplings.) There should be stunning mixed woodland to more than 1500ft.. Instead we have scrubland pasture. This is nothing like it looked in the 5th century (same in Eryri and everywhere in-between). Reintroduce quality indigenous species, not just coniferous plantations (that destroy habitat for other plants and animals ) and there'll be more than ten times the birds, mammals etc. Until this is acknowledged and tackled they are just pretty words, even if the verse may fall from the soul. Also, in a rebranding exercise why is the narrator wearing a big North Face logo? why not stick the new logo over it... Rather than interfering with watercourses why don't we just turn off a few tvs. If you wanna see the sky bright with stars youd need to turn off all the street lights from Pembroke to Bristol. Just like back in the blitz.

A great idea but will it fall at the first hurdle? Wales needs to stand up for herself and genuinely try to protect her culture, language, and environment. Will she though? Will anyone challenge the greed of second homes and Air BnB or will she politely allow the decay to continue? Will there be an attempt to at least try to learn the language by the myriad incomers attracted by the scenery, but dismissive of the culture? Will agricultural and industrial profiteers be properly regulated? Will the water companies be held to account? It could all be just “What if?
